The Overdrive is all about personal attention for our brides and grooms. When planning a ceremo-ny and/or reception through us, you are our only event for the day, therefore no detail is forgot-ten. Owners Neil & Karen Romer special-
ize in events and catering, but their
story begins at a grocery store. Just
over 40 years ago, the couple started
out operating Romers IGA, a simple
“mom-and-pop” grocery in Burkets-
ville, Ohio. After vesting 23 years in
the store, larger chains began emerg-
ing with cheaper prices , and at times,
it was difficult to make ends meet. It
was time for a transition for the fami-
ly.
Fortunately, the Romers discovered
they could fill a niche for an entirely
different market. Karen was on the
St. Bernard Ladies Sodality board and
was asked to prepare a full meal for a
Monday meeting. Karen opted to
take care of the side dishes, and it was
decided that Neil would make his de-
lectable fried chicken. The meal was
an immense success and led to entire-
ly new opportunities.
Neil was asked to make his delicious
chicken again for a 40th anniversary
party, where they were asked to cater
the entire event. And so, the Romer’s
found themselves with a new business
-- one that began with a party they
hadn’t even offered to cater.
As word spread and the business
grew, Neil and Karen started catering
out of the back of the grocery store,
and in 1986, they began calling it the
“Catering Kitchen.” In time, they re-
alized there was a need in the com-
munity for a facility to host events
and receptions.
and, as their commercial equipment
put a strain on the grocery’s outdated
breaker system, the Romers know
they would have to develop a plan.
In May of 1996, with an astounding
81 confirmed bookings for the recep-
tion hall even before they broke
ground, construction began on the St.
Henry facility that would serve as a
larger kitchen and local venue for
weddings and events. As the opera-
tion grew, so did the need for similar
facilities in neighboring communities.
The Romers opened their Celina facil-
ity in February 2004, and their son
became the new manager, assisting
them in the expansion. A short time
later, the Greenville, Ohio, facility
opened. Not long after this, the
Romers purchased Overdrive, a venue
located on State Route 127.
The Romers also operate the
Westlake Hotel Villas, a “great place
to house your guests.” Each of these
venues is the prime location for a
wedding, providing ample dance
space and beautifully decorated facili-
ties, along with nearby accommoda-
tions for all overnight guests.
The Romer’s transformed their ven-
ues into every bride’s dream location
by offering “professional home-
cooked” catering options, along with
all the important reception particu-
lars to assist any new bride. They of-
fer decoration packages, including
centerpieces, vase and ceiling/
backdrop décor.
They can coordinate cakes, provide
DJ services, and shuffle the guests to
their accommodations the evening of
