• Markers
• In the examples we did, the markers we used are Si and ang• In Filipino, there is no direct words/articles such as “a”, “an”, and
“the” like in English. • Markers are used to ”mark” the next word in the sentence such as
a noun – usually the subject or the object of the sentence.

• Si is a “singular” marker used before a personal noun
• Example: Ako si Maria or Si Maria ako. (I am Maria)
• Ang is a “singular” marker used before a noun. “Ang” marks the subject of a sentence.
• Example: Maria ang pangalan ko. Maria is my name. (Maria marker name my)

• Nominative Pronouns• Nominative Pronouns are the subjects of the sentence. Usually the
ones that do the action in a sentence.

• Nominative Pronouns• Ka à Use when the pronoun is not in the beginning of the
sentence• Example: Si Pedro ka.
• You are Pedro à (Marker) Pedro You
• Ikaw à Use in the beginning of a sentence or before the name of the person.• Example: Ikaw si Pedro.

• Nominative Pronouns• Pronouns à There’s no gender in the Filipino language.
Therefore, Siya is used to mean both “he” and “she”
• Example: Siya si Pedro. Siya si Maria• He is Pedro. She is Maria.

• Possessive Pronouns• Possessive Pronouns indicate one’s possession to something or even
someone.

• Prepositions• Sa à is a preposition or that it indicates a place.• Example: Nag-aaral ako sa Unibersidad ng California.

• Interrogatives• Ano and Sino à are interrogative words. Used when asking a
question.• Ano à What à Ano ang pangalan mo? à What is your name• Sino à Who à Sino siya? à Who is he/she?• Ba à Used for yes/no questions à Estudyante ka ba?
• When used with names, ba goes before the name.• Example: Estudyante ba si Grant?• When used with pronouns, ba goes after the pronoun.• Example: Nag-aaral ka ba sa Trinity?

• Particle à “Na”• Particles are words that does not classify as a
noun/pronoun/verbs/adj/adverbs
• In Tagalog, the particle Na is used to connect words and phrases
• It is frequently used, most especially when linking adjectives, nouns and phrases.
• It can be contracted à or make them shorter.• Examples: Ng à of à nang
