Postmodernism

Postmodernism aims to embrace diversity and contradiction, thus rejects the distinction between low and high art forms. Postmodern style is often characterized by eclecticism (折中主义 ), digression (离题 ), collage (拼贴 ), pastiche (混合曲 ), irony (反讽 ), the return of ornament (装饰 ) and historical reference ( 历史参照 ), and the appropriation of popular media. Post-modernism rejects rigid genre boundaries and promotes parody (蠢事 ), irony, and playfulness (嬉闹 ), commonly referred to as jouissance by postmodern theorists. As postmodern icon David Byrne, and his band Talking Heads said: "Stop making sense."
