PASTOR’S CORNER This past Friday, July 1st, our parish began our first 24 hour, overnight, Eucharistic Adoration. In preparing for it and to reference it in this "Corner", I was drawn back in time to the "Personal Pastoral Mission Statement" that we were required to develop in our final semester of seminary. For it has long been on my mind to build an acute awareness, in our parish, of the tremendous spiritual and temporal benefit, that a holy hour spent before the real presence of Christ himself, will provide for each individual. The accounts of miracles, conversions, and spiritual and physical healings literally abound. Great sinners have become saints and hardened atheists have been drawn to a devout and enlightened acceptance of God. I was curious to see exactly what I had written and retrieved the framed version from high atop my six foot office bookcase. Upon reviewing it, I felt it was worth sharing with you, since with our brand new beautiful church and the "Totus Tuus - St. John Paul II - Marian Adoration Chapel", specifically built for round-the-clock adoration, that goal is within reach. My prayer is that your belief will grow in strength and fervor and that you will prayerfully consider making a commitment to a specific hour (or more) each week. While late night or early morning might sound difficult, they have proven to me to be the most serene. There will always be two people present and the special "Mag Lock" keypad entry system will provide security and comfort. Please give prayerful consideration to committing to a holy hour each week. There are many parishioners who have been committed to a Holy Hour at St. Catherine for years. Ask them about the graces they have received with that devotion and the peace of heart that accrues. We were created to know, love, and serve God in this world and to be happy with Him in heaven. There is no better way to come to know Him, than to spend a peace-filled hour, "face to face" with His Real Presence. Yours in Him, ________________________________________________________________________________________________

PERSONAL PASTORAL MISSION STATEMENT - C. DENIS O'SHAUGHNESSY

LIFE IN GOD Communicate, with all my words and actions, that the focus of my life will be the Real, Divine Presence of the Body and Blood of Our Lord and Savior in the Tabernacle of our Church. Highlight awareness of this miraculous gift from God that

should never be taken for granted or shown even the slightest disrespect. Prioritize parish support and involvement in the institution of Eucharistic Adoration as an invaluable opportunity to

enhance one’s Intimacy with our Creator. My ultimate goal will be perpetual 24 hour adoration. Keep a regularly scheduled daily Mass as a parish priority no matter how few the attendees initially.

“Build it and they will come.”

LIFE IN CHURCH COMMUNITY Remain personally committed to Catechesis as a primary pastoral process available for all parishioners and inquirers of

our Catholic faith. Empower and encourage all parish staff members to use their talents and faith, in synergy with those heading up all Catechetical programs, so as to grow the awareness and utmost importance of these ministries in answering Christ’s

call to evangelize and catechize. Stay constantly alert to parish spiritual and faith education needs through a prioritized catechetical nurturing of the

innate yearnings of adults and young adults to know God and His precepts. Consistently communicate to parish members, the responsibility we all have to evangelize and to be prayerful, with all of

our actions and words, emphasizing that this responsibility, like charity, begins at home among family members.

LIFE BY EXAMPLE Always remain humble and sensitive in listening to the suggestions, questions’ concerns and ideas of others, respecting

their dignity and honoring their integrity in all my communication. Never forget that, above all else, my priestly vocation is a commitment to be a man of prayer and a commitment to lead

and reach out to the needs of others.

LIFE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SELF Take caring for myself, as a temple of the Holy Spirit, as a serious responsibility.

Spiritually - Remain faithful to my Breviary, Daily Mass and Adoration. Physically - Stay physically fit with a regular program of exercise.

Mentally - Read a book each month and stay in touch with my children.

SECOND COLLECTION today is for Special Mission Areas, including Florida and Latin America.

UPCOMING MEETINGS/EVENTS “The threats to religious freedom are more subtle (in the West); many people don’t even perceive them...whereas in other parts of the world...it’s bloody, violent, overt, but in both cases it’s a denial of the rights of conscience, it’s a denial of the fundamental freedom to relate to one’s own God.” — Most Reverend William E. Lori, Chairman USCCB Ad-Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty

RESPECT LIFE

PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY O God Our Creator, we praise you and thank you, for from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength and courage to readily defend our freedoms and the rights of Your Church when they are threatened. Give us a clear and united voice in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome — for the sake of our children, and all who come after us — this great land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PEACE The greeting of peace at Mass adds substance to a message of today’s readings: peace is relational. When we greet in peace the person near us at Mass, we share the touch of a handshake or embrace, sincere eye contact, and friendly words. The scriptures speak of a similar peace. The first reading from Isaiah describes the peace of the holy city, Jerusalem, a place of prosperity and comfort where the “LORD’s power shall be known to his servants” (Isaiah 66:14c). The Christian understanding of peace changes slightly. Paul writes of the “peace and mercy” on all who are created anew. Jesus describes a feeling of peace that will rest on those who accept his disciples and their message. Peace is both an absence of strife and a personal blessing. May we always and sincerely bring peace to our own lives as we share it with others. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
