How Do Heart Rate Zones
Affect Your Fitness Goals?Knowing your heart rate zones canhelp you measure and improveyour tness by understanding andapplying these principles:
Your heart rate is a good measureof exercise intensity.
Training in certain heart ratezones can help you improvecardiovascular capacity andstrength.
Knowing your heart ratezones can prevent you fromovertraining and can decreaseyour risk of injury.
You can set the low and high heartrate limits for each zone. If you
know your maximum heart rate, you can use the table onpage 16todetermine the best heart rate zone foryour tness objectives.

Problem Solution/Answer
The heart rate
monitor strap istoo big.
A smaller elastic strap is sold separately.Go to http://buy.garmin.com.
The heart rate datais inaccurate orerratic.
Make sure the heart rate monitor is snug againstyour body.Warm up for 510 minutes. If the problem persists, continue with the following suggestions.
Reapply moisture to the sensors. Use water, saliva,or electrode gel. Clean the sensors. Dirt and sweatresidue on the sensor can interfere with heart ratesignals.Synthetic fabrics that rub or ap against the heartrate monitor can create static electricity that
interferes with heart rate signals. Wear a cotton shirtor wet your shirt if suitable for your activity.Position the heart rate monitor on your back insteadof your chest.Strong electromagnetic elds and some 2.4 GHzwireless sensors can interfere with your heart rate
monitor. Sources of interference may include veryhigh-voltage power lines, electric motors, microwaveovens, 2.4 GHz cordless phones, and wireless LANaccess points. After you move away from the sourceof interference, your heart rate data should return tonormal.
