Global issues are severe and will get worse if we don’t take action. The Environmental Defense Fund is here to find solutions for it. They began in 1967 as a group of scientists and a lawyer on Long Island, New York, fighting to save osprey (a type of bird) from the toxic pesticide DDT. Some of the people involved are Ilissa Ocko, Hanling Yang, Ann Hayden, and more. They bring the right people together to solve environmental challenges from their different points of view. Today, they are one of the world's leading environmental organizations.

They started this organization because they realized that there are a lot of problems happening around the earth. Due to people ignoring these issues, they will become severe.

The Environmental Defense Fund's mission is to preserve the natural systems which all life depends on. Guided by science and economics, they find long lasting solutions to the most serious environmental problems.

Roles in Solving Global IssuesTheir volunteers travel to different countries to see what

they are struggling with. They collaborate with them to find solutions. They are working with communities to prepare them for the impacts of climate change that people can’t avoid while addressing the ones they can.

Ways in Helping the World

They help in many ways. For example, EDF promotes restoration projects in New Orleans to protect the people, wildlife, and jobs of this region. They are helping both people and countries.

They take on climate change and other grave threats by identifying what’s most urgent and where they can make the most difference. EDF is building lasting ways to stabilize the climate and protect communities that got hit the hardest by it.

Solving Global Issues

When they bring the right problem-solvers together, they see the challenges more clearly. With that, they take action in ways that endure. They have done things like using the latest technology and data to make the oil and gas industry shift to clean energy faster to cut pollution.

There are many things that we need to fix, and yet not many people are taking action. That is why the SDGs were created. Helping might be simple, like donating to an organization. But it’s at least one more step closer to solving these problems. The effects are already visible and will be fatal unless people act now. Through people’s education and obedience to their climate commitments, we can make the necessary changes to protect the planet.
