    TACKLING TECHNIQUES

    STANCE1. Keep a wide base with knees sl1ghtly bent, tall down and back

    straight2. Keep head up with eyes focused on numbers.3. Arms will be comfortably hanging by side. Close to the body, ready

    to club up and to wrap up the ball carrier.4. Approach runner with w lde base and quick, chopping steps.5. Weight should be forward on balls of feet, stalking ball carrier.

    CONTACT1. Hit on rise, aiming shoulders for numbers.

    2. When hitting, bow neck focusing on numbers where shoulder willmake contact.3. Upon contact, keep feet chopping very fast. Wi de base.4. Wrap up runner by clubbing arms up and around him and grabbing

    some part of uniform or body. Bring arms up in a quick clubbingact ion.

    5. Remember, keep head up on contact.

    FOLLOWTHROUGH

    1. Upon contact, wrap up runner either arm club and continue byroll ing hips driving legs with quick, short steps.

    2. Drive upward with lifting action. Try to step on toes.3. Shoulders will always be parallel to L.O.S.face north and south.4. Approach, contact, fo llow through w ill be one continuous move..5. You must drive runners (piles) upward and backward.

    ACROSSTHEBOW1. Across the bow means that head should be across of and in front of

    On goal line defense we must have very aggressive penetration. Withoutpenetration, goal line defense will not be effective. Players on goal linedefense must feel personally responsible for making the big play. Goalline defense is more individual than team.

    RUN REACTION (DEFENS IVE SECONDARY)

    DOG1. On snap of ball, take one step forward .

    .2. When you read run, attack.3. When attacking blocker, put number on number, attack at numbers

    with inside arm. Head and outside arm should be free with bodyparallel to L.O.S..

    4. Shed blocker immediately.5. If blocker is coming form inside, keep shoulders and feet parallel
