    Making thegreatest camp ever,no problem!

Inside the check in area there is a girl standing beside a box of IST T-shirts. It is Erika from Finland andshe has been at Rinkaby for one day, arriving earlier to help with the Pre-IST work.

Im handing out T-shirts to arriving ISTs Erika says.A slow job, since most of the ISTs havent arrived yet, but handing out T-shirts wont be the only thingshe does during the Jamboree. Exactly what she will be doing yet is a surprise, but that is not a problem.

I have done many things in the past, so Im comfortable with everything! Erika says.

It is the 25th of July, and suddenly bus after busstarts arriving to Rinkaby. Off jump Scouts ofalmost every age and nationality, packed with

bags, expectations and camp nerves. Eventhough they may look different, they all haveone thing in common. They are a part of theInternational Service Team at the 22nd WorldScout Jamboree!

Ester Olsson is another Pre IST-worker who is guiding all of the arriving ISTs to individual tent slots. An important job, since there are a lot of tents and they all need to be in the right place! Ester has beenwaiting a long time for this experience, and expects to meet a lot of new people. She has already met some;working in the camp kitchen gave her the opportunity to get to know some Scouts from Spain.I hope I will have a great time here at camp, and make sure that all the participants also have a good timeEster Olsson says.

How to build a cityin two months

Hej Jam sat down with Thomas Tdde Nilsson, member

of the Site Service department team. With a special re-sponsibility for infrastructure on site, Tdde has been onsite since the 15th of June, but the preparatory work has gone onfor much longer than that.

We started digging down the mains for water and sewerage inAugust last year says Tdde.

Flushing toilets is a new feature on Swedish scout camps, so newinfrastructure was needed. The sewage from the site is sent intothe municipality system where it eventually will become bio gas.

Together with the electricity, water and sewerage have been thelargest challenges of this camp says Tdde.

The first weekend of June marked the end of the larger infra-structural work; starting by midsummer a finer grid of electric-ity, water and communication cables was plowed down on site. The build-up phase started in earnest on the 15th of June whenbuilders -- all volunteers -- arrived at what then still was virtuallya large empty field, inhabited by nothing but cows.

The only thing here by then was the Dining Hall and some ofthe Site Service locations. Tents larger than 12 meters are builtby external contractors, everything else is done by us says Tdde.So what does it take to build up a World Scout Jamboree? Tdde

tells us that at most there have been 500 volunteers in the Build-ing Team, doing everything from installing electricity to erectingthe tents.

The World Scout Jamboree site is nothing less than a middle sized city -it is infact the 26th largest city in Sweden when it comes to the number of inhabitants. All cities need infrastructure, buildings and water pipes, so how is it possibleto build a city in such a short time? And in canvas, just to add to the challenge!

    6 Hej Jam!

The builders have been fantastic, working from seven in themorning until nine, ten in the evening, every day of the week.Building a canvas city would be challenging enough, but the jam-boree differs in yet another way from ordinary cities -- after two

weeks of use, its going away again!

On Wednesday, 27th of July, we start planning the deconstruc-tion. Hopefully, though, we can get some help from the users ofthe tents so it shouldnt take more than around two weeks saysTdde.

The final part of leaving the field, the dismantling of the drain-age system, will be done in September. After this, the only breechof the silence will once again be the cattle.

    lectrique.

Imagine a place where you don't have to choose betweenrich nature and a vibrant city centre. Amanda Bauer, 17,Johan Nilsson, 16, Max Aronsson, 15, and Oliver Omars-son, 15, give you an insight into what it is like being young

in Kristianstad, Sweden's most active Scout municipality!- Living in Kristianstad gives us the best of two worlds. The city is big enough to offer the things that we want, but is also small enough to make us feel safe, says AmandaBauer.

When these scouts want to have fun, there are a numberof things that they like to do. The one thing that they allhave in common is that they all love swimming, both in-doors and outdoors.

    - We like to go to hus, just outside of Kristianstad, tothe beautiful beaches. There are also warmer lakes in thecountryside and a heated pool with a water slide right inthe city centre, says Amanda Bauer.

Other interests include shopping and going to cafs, visit-ing museums and supporting the local handball team, IFKKristianstad.

When asked the question what attraction in Kristianstadwould be the best thing to show their fellow scouts, theyagreed upon the newly built Naturum Vattenriket Visitor'sCentre. The centre is located in the heart of the biosphere

reserve area, designed to promote and demonstrate a bal-anced relationship between people and nature.

And of course, a visit to Kristianstad is not complete untilyou have taken a swim in the sea!

Amanda Bauer 17, Johan Nilsson 16, Max Aronsson 15, and

    8 Hej Jam!

    A patchwork of colors

Placed in the very south of Sweden, Skne is almost com-pletely surrounded by water and beautiful beaches, and itis easy to get to Denmark via ferry or the resund Bridge.Up to 1658 Skne was actually a part of Denmark. For many yearsthe Swedes fought against Danish rebellions, called Snapphanar. Some people still say the Scanians are partly Danish, especiallybecause of the Danish-influenced accent.

Skne has pure Swedish nature: big green forests, three nationalparks and countless lakes. As you can see in Rinkaby, Skne is

very flat, and with perfect soil for crop cultivation, the landscapelooks like a big, colorful patchwork quilt from above.

Sknes biggest city, Malm, is a multicultural town that is calledthe City of Parks. There is good reason for this - it is incrediblygreen! Some kilometres north of Malm is Lund, a charmingtown with small alleys and a cathedral from the 12th century.Lunds big university attracts students from all over the world.

Food is a big part of the Scanian culture, and if you want to eatsomething typically Scanian you should get yourself a piece ofSpettkaka. The hard cake, made from eggs and sugar, is not ascommon as it was in the old days, but still considered a Scanian

delicacy. A great time for other traditional foods is in November, when Scanians celebrate St. Martins Day (or Mrtens afton as itis called in Swedish) in the remembrance of St. Martin of Tours. On that day goose and a soup made from goose blood is themenu. That might sounds strange, and even though its popu-lar, most of the Scanian population have never tried the BlackSoup.

Skne is a small but sunny province that has a lot to offer, andyou are most welcome to come here again after the Jamboree!

Sweden is divided into 25 differentprovinces and the one where the 22ndWorld Scout Jamboree is taking placeis called Skne. Its not just a placefor Scouting, but a region of goodfarming, food and Danish history.by Linnea Wedelin

The same thing always happenedwhen I told my friends and family Iwas bound for Sweden this summer.

    Jealousy!by Megan Donoghue

My friends were jealous that I was going to get to hike, kayak and climb through some of the most amazing na-ture in the world. My sisters were annoyed that I tooktheir casual summer clothes and left them in Australia with mywinter jackets. My brother told me I should send him instead,so he could become friends with all of the extremely attractiveSwedish girls! Ill let you in on a secret though; Sweden itself isextremely attractive!

Sweden is the third largest country by area in Europe, and someof the best opportunities to take part in outdoor adventures, which is probably why 9.4 million people live here! Hiking, cy-cling, river-rafting, swimming, fishing, alpine skiing, kayaking, boating. The Swedish outdoors are a mix of the good, beautifuland wild, and access to nature seems like a human right to theSwedes! With so many forests, rivers, lakes and national parksyoure never too far away from a fantastic outdoor experience!

My favorite Swedish law is Allemansrtten. Dont ask me to pro-nounce it, but it gives the public free access to camp and hikeacross any land unless trespassing is specifically forbidden. In

summer the forests are full of hikers and campers, and in wintercross country skiers!

On top of amazing scenery, Sweden also has some amazing wild-life! You might be lucky enough to see either a roe deer or even amoose! There are between 300, 000 and 400, 000 moose in Swe-den... Ive heard theyre a huge traffic hazard!

Some advice from me whilst you're in Sweden never pay forwater! Swedish tap water is the most delicious water you willever taste, and as a seasoned traveller I can promise you wontfind water any cleaner or tastier anywhere else in the world!

You should also do yourself a favour and visit a bakery; Swedenis a heaven for a sweet tooth! Cinnamon buns, 'Princess' cake, chocolate balls, saffron sweet bread do I really have to keepgoing?!

    Enjoy Sweden!
