How is MS Access different from SQL Server?

Page 6: High Impact Technology February 2009. It’s Awesome!

MS ACCESS Limitations:

Even the most recent versions of Access do not support database files larger than 2GB.

Similarly, it is near impossible to modify an Access database while it is 'live'

SQL Advantages:

• Scalability • Integrity • Replication • Database size • Security • Transactions • Triggers • SQL Mail• Jobs • Stored

Procedures

How does an XML file empower cBiz?

Page 9: High Impact Technology February 2009. It’s Awesome!

 What is XML?

• XML stands for Extensible Markup Language • XML is a markup language much like HTML • XML was designed to carry data, not to display

data • XML tags are not predefined. You must define

your own tags • XML is designed to be self-descriptive • XML is a W3C Recommendation

Raw data is not hardcoded in to the cBiz application rather it is stored in XML files.

Therefore modifying XML is customizing cBiz.

Page 15: High Impact Technology February 2009. It’s Awesome!

More information available to the recruiters

• Recruiters have access to wider range of data that was previously held in separate folders and sometimes on incompatible systems

Increased Productivity• The database provides an easy to use query

language that allows recruiters to get immediate response from their queries rather than having to use a manual way of checking

What value is added to our business if we centralize

our data?

Page 18: High Impact Technology February 2009. It’s Awesome!

• Facilitates building, maintaining and enhancing the database.

• Data integrity is improved.• Data redundancy is eliminated. There is only

one valid data set.• Recruiter’s space problems are reduced. Each

recruiter no longer has to have an entire collection of the organization's data sets to be productive.

• Data security issues can be controlled by assigning a data manager or administrator to monitor and update changes to the database.

• Data is easily shared amongst divisions and branches.

What is Load-on-Demand and how does it work in

cBiz?

Page 21: High Impact Technology February 2009. It’s Awesome!

• If you are accessing the cBizOne database (SQL Server) remotely, you can check the Hosted/Remote Database box for load-on-demand for optimal remote speed and performance.

• It will not load all the records in the database; rather it will load only the first n number of records.

What Is a Port Number?

Page 27: High Impact Technology February 2009. It’s Awesome!

• In computer networking, a port number is part of the addressing information used to identify the senders and receivers of messages.

• Port numbers are associated with network addresses.

Example:Port numbers work like telephone extensions. Just

as a business telephone switchboard can use a main phone number and assign each employee an extension number (like x100, x101, etc.), so a computer has a main address and a set of port numbers to handle incoming and outgoing connections.
