aboatexcursiononthegentlePerfumeRiver,orelseyoucannotfeeltheromanceofHue.The PerfumeRiver

(Vietnamese:Sng Hng orHng Giang)isariverthatcrossesthecapitalcityofHue,inthecentralVietnameseprovinceofThua Thien Hue.PerfumeorHuong Riverisaround80kilometers long,andowesitsnametothefact

thatitflowsthroughmanyforestsofaromaticplantsbeforereachingHue,bringingwithitapureandfresharoma.

TheHuong Riverhastwosources,bothofwhichbeginintheTruongSonMountainrangeandmeetat

BangLangFork.TheTaTrach (LeftTributary)originatesintheTruongDongmountainsandflowsnorthwesttowards

BangLangFork.TheshorterHuu Trach (RightTributary)flowsthroughtheTuanferry,landingtowardsBangLang

Fork.ThenitflowsinsouthnorthdirectionpassingthetemplesofHonChenandNgocTran,and turnsnorthwest,

meanderingthroughtheNguyet Bieu andLuong Quan plains.Fromthis,theRiverthencontinuouslyflowsint the

northeastdirectiontoHuecity,onlyanechoofTruongSonmountain,andpassestherestplaceoftheNguyen

Emperors.Theriverofgreenwatercontinuesitsitinerary,passingHenIsletandvariousvillages,crossingtheSinh

junction,which

is

known

as

the

capital

of

ancient

Chau Hoa,

before

emptying

into

the

Tam

Giang Lagoon.From

BangLangtoThuan Anestuary,thePerfumeRiveris30kmlongandrunsveryslowly(astheriverlevelisnotmuch

abovesealevel).ThePerfumeRiverdarkensasitwindsalongthefootofNgocTranMountain homeoftheJade

CupTemple wherethereisaverydeepabyss.
