Home School News: 10

Friday, 17th November 2017

Our Bible Verse for week beginning 13th November is from Psalm 95:2 – Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Dear Parents,

Our school week got off to a great start as Pudsey Bear visited school on Monday morning.

After lunch we were lucky enough to see the BBC Radio Lancashire Rickshaw, with Matt Baker

from the One Show, which was passing by school. As you can imagine, there was much

excitement amongst the children! The staff were somewhat excited too – Mrs Macartney

requested her own personal photograph with Pudsey! Photographs may be found at the end of

this newsletter.

Children in Need: A huge thank you to everyone for supporting our Children in

Need appeal. It was lovely to see the colourful pyjamas and onesies that children

wore to school. Once all the monies have been counted, we will let you know the

amount raised on next week’s Home School News.

Gruffalo and Peter Pan trips: Reminder that full payment must be received for the KS1

Gruffalo trip and the KS2 Peter Pan trip no later than Monday, 20th November. We need

to confirm numbers for ticket purchases on Tuesday, 21st November so please do ensure you

have checked your ParentPay account to confirm that you have made payment.

Reception Class Photographs: Reminder that order forms/payments for children in Ash

and Beech classes must be received in school by next Monday, 20th November. Thank you.

Eucharist – Year 5: Year 5 will be attending the Eucharist Service at St John Baptist on

Wednesday, 22nd November. This will take place at 10.00am in Church – everyone welcome

to attend.

Christmas Art & Decorations: Our Christmas Art will take the following format this year.

We will be making our Christmas decorations from 1.15pm to 3.15pm in the New School Hall

on the following days next week:

Years 1 & 2 – Monday, 20th November

Years 3 & 4 – Tuesday, 21st November

Years 5 & 6 – Wednesday, 22nd November

Reception & Teddy’s Nursery – Thursday 23rd November

Volunteers are very welcome to come along to help. You can help in any year group, not

necessarily your child’s class. Please email the classteacher if you would like to volunteer.

Abel & Cole: There is the saying that money doesn’t grow

on trees. However, it can certainly grow on fruit and

vegetables! What better way than to raise funds for our

school than by ordering your weekly fruit & vegetables through Abel &

Cole. We ran this same scheme a few years ago in school and it

proved to be very popular and a big success with many parents. Abel &

Cole withdrew from the provision to schools, but fortunately this has

now been reinstated. Leaflets explaining how the scheme works were

sent home with children last week. Please do take time to familiarise

yourself with Abel & Cole and take up this great opportunity to raise much needed funds for

school. If you shopped with Abel & Cole every week, each family could raise up to £85 in the

first year! If you require another leaflet, please do collect one from the School Office.

Christmas Fair: Our school Christmas Fair takes place after school on

Friday 1st December at 3.00pm. There will be refreshments, games, raffle,

Christmas gifts and Father Christmas will be in his grotto. It is definitely

not an event to be missed and all funds raised will be used for the benefit

of all children in school. Please do put the date in your diary. FOBS, who

are organising the fair, have requested the following:

We are looking for volunteers to help set up the stalls in the

afternoon and also to help run the stalls. If you can help in any way, please let a member

of FOBS know or contact the school office.

We are asking for donations of unwanted nearly new good quality toys for our toy stall.

Please ask your children if they will look in their toy cupboard for their unwanted toys.

Do you have any old nativity clothing or Christmas themed outfits that you no longer

need and can donate to the Christmas Fair? FOBS wish to have a stall offering nativity

clothing for sale at the Christmas Fair.

FOBS require donations of older children’s Elf outfits. Do you have any that you could

donate or possibly lend to FOBS?

FOBS require raffle prizes (new / unwanted gifts) for use at the Fair. Please send any gifts

into school. Thank you.

Non-Uniform Day – Friday 1st December: In support of our Christmas Fair,

we will be holding a non-uniform day on Friday, 1st December. Children are

encouraged to wear a Christmas jumper or other Christmas attire. The “fine”

for this day will be a donation of chocolate or sweets for Key Stage 1 and

donation of a bottle for Key Stage 2.

Lancashire County Sports Hall Athletics League – 1st Meeting: Sunday, 12th November

was the day of the first meeting of the newly formed Lancashire County Sports Hall Athletics

League. This is a competition involving actual athletics clubs from all over Lancashire. We

affiliated to the league and we are sending a team to all three of the meetings this academic

year. We had an Under 11 boys and girls team. The children had to choose one event to do

from four categories, therefore undertaking four each. They chose the disciplines that would

serve them best (with my advice too ). The way it worked was that they only took the top

two scorers at each event and only six could score at each station. The boys was from

approximately 40 boys and the girls was from about 50 girls. We went into this full of

confidence and enthusiasm ready to surprise everybody.

Well, they certainly did this! The day went so well for

everyone and we stormed to 1st place in both the boys and

girls’ competition. This puts us on course for the

pendants/trophies for league winners after the three meets.

This has to be right up there with one of the best

achievements for Broughton as we have beaten all of the

actual athletics clubs in Lancashire. A huge well done to all!

School lunches: The School Dinner Menu choice for week commencing Monday 20th

November is WEEK 3. Please remember to discuss the menu with your child so that

they are aware of the choice you would like them to make.

Chicken Rota: Thank you to the parents who have already signed up to

look after our chickens. There are still a handful of slots to fill so if you are

available, please do sign up. This will require a daily visit to school to ensure

the chickens have food and water, collect the eggs and place them in egg

boxes within the church porch ready for sale. The job normally takes a

maximum of 10 minutes out of your day (we will provide those volunteering with an

information sheet so you will know exactly what to do). A calendar is available outside the

School Office and we are asking that people sign up against the days they are available to help –

please also include a contact number. The calendar runs up to the 14th January 2018.

Messy Church: The next Messy Church date for your diary is Saturday

18th November – Who’s the Baby? This takes place from 4.00pm to

6.00pm at St Peter’s Primary School, Meadowfield, Fulwood, Preston.

Pop the date in your diary and go along and “taste and see that the Lord

is good” and enjoy a meal too.

School Shop – Tuesday each week: Reminder - if you wish to purchase envelopes, book

bags, water bottles etc, please call at the school office before or after school on Tuesdays only.

Dinner Money: It is our policy that school meals should be paid for in advance and therefore

rarely should there be a debit balance on your ParentPay account. Payments must be paid

promptly and the ParentPay system checked regularly to ensure the account is up to date. As

you can appreciate, it is time consuming for the school office to issue payment reminder letters.

Please assist them in ensuring your ParentPay account is ALWAYS up to date. Thank you.
