THE SURVEY OF OCCUPATIONAL
INJURIES AND ILLNESSES (SOII) is
the largest nationwide data collection
of worker injury statistics. This
information helps pinpoint the causes
of work injuries, and is used to:
Create safety legislation
Set insurance policy rates
Improve worker safety programs
Compare injury rates across industries
THE CENSUS OF FATAL OCCUPATIONAL
INJURIES (CFOI) provides a
comprehensive account of each death
which occurs in the workplace.
This information helps to:
Promote safer work practices through
better training
Inform workers of safety hazards
Assess and improve safety standards
*DAFW= Days away from workDJTR= Days of job transfer or restrictions
DART= Cases with days away from work, restricted or transfer duty
THE WISCONSIN STATE LABORATORY OF HYGIENEholds a cooperative agreement with the Bureauof Labor Statistics and the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration to conduct their annual
surveys. The BLS/OSH Statistics Unit is part of WSLHs
Occupational Health and Safety Division, which alsoincludes the occupational health laboratory (WOHL)
and the health and safety consultation program
(WisCon).
