«Впечатления и
выводы от поездки
в Англию»
Мне представился случай
принять участие в качестве делегата
от МГТУ им. Н.Э. Баумана в
международной студенческой
программе, запускаемой PEN-
International: посетить
Международный учебный центр
университета Куинс, пройти там
семинары и тренинги на тему
лидерства. Эта программа
финансировалась японским фондом
Nippon Foundation.
Представьте себе ситуацию: у
вас одна ручка, и вы решили
обменять ее на другую ручку. В
результате у вас одна другая ручка, а
у другого человека одна твоя ручка.
Иное дело обстоит, когда объектом
обмена вместо ручки выступает
идея. Тогда в результате этого
обмена у вас и у другого будет по
две идей, даже и больше! Так там мы
обменивались мнениями о видении
на лидерство человека.
Там я познакомился со
студентами с проблемами слуха из
Америки, Китая и Японии. От них
так много узнал о жизни глухих в их
странах. На выступлениях студенты
высказывали свои мнения на
различные темы, такие как:
лидерство, самоопределение, навыки
общения, достижение целей,
образование и трудоустройство. Не
было ни дня без дискуссий.
«Impressions and
conclusions of the trip to
England»
I had an opportunity to participate
in the international students’ program
PEN-International as a delegate from
Bauman Moscow State Technical
University. I visited the International
Training Center of Queen’s University,
and attended seminars and training
courses on leadership. The programme
was funded by the Japan Foundation
Nippon Foundation.
Imagine the situation: you have a
pen, and you decide to exchange it for
another pen. As a result, you have a
different pen, and the other person has
your pen. Another case is when the
object of the exchange is not a pen but
an idea. Then, as a result of the
exchange you and the other person will
have two ideas, and even more! This is
how we exchanged views on
leadership.
There I met students with hearing
problems from the USA, China and
Japan. I learned so much from them
about the life of deaf people in their
countries. At the presentations, the
students expressed their opinions on
various subjects such as: leadership,
self-determination, communication
skills, achieving goals, education and
employment. There was no day without
debates.

his objectives are achieved. We should
ask him about his view on this or that
situation and listen to him»

общаться с людьми, то у него нет
возможности выполнять свою

Более убедился, что самый
прочный капитал, самый
долговечный капитал, который
можно получить в молодости -
хорошее высшее образование:
«У глухих есть такие же права
на образование, как и у слышащих»
«Очень важно готовить глухих
лидеров в области науки»

Наличие высшего образования у
глухого меняет его социальный
статус в обществе. Алан Гурвиц
вспоминал так:
«Родители советовали мне
выбрать то, чего не дают в
колледже. По их мнению, глухому
человеку лучше получать именно
техническое образование. Сначала
я подумал, что инженер - это
машинист паровоза. Но потом я
понял, что инженер - это творец,
который создавает на бумаге
деталь и воплощает ее в жизнь». Алан получил специальность
инженера-электронщика и
трудоустроился программистом в
высокотехнологичную компанию. В
настоящее время он является вице-
президентом Рочестерского
университета, одного из
крупнейших вузов Америки.

I became convinced that the most
durable and the most long-standing
capital, which is available in youth is a
good higher education:
«Deaf people have the same right
to get education as hearing people»
«It is very important to train deaf
leaders in the field of science» (Mayumi Shirasawa)
The availability of higher education
changes a social status of deaf people
in society. As Alan Hurwitz
remembers:
«My parents advised me to choose
something that a college does not give.
In their view, it is advisable for a deaf
person to receive technical education.
At first I thought that an engineer is a
locomotive driver. But then I realized
that the engineer is a creator who
designs a component on paper and
embodies it in life ».
Alan received a specialty of an
electronic engineer and was employed
as a programmer in a high-tech
company. He is currently vice-
president of the University of
Rochester, one of the largest
universities of America.

«Настоящий лидер не знает,

Образование получается не
только в молодости, но и
непрерывно, в течение своей жизни.
Как сказала Вики Гурвиц:
«Никогда не поздно учиться и
менять свою профессию».
Она аргументировала тот факт
тем, что сама она получила степень
бакалавра в 39 лет. Делала она это
ради расширения опыта в
социальной коммуникации.
Чтение книг играет
исключительную роль в
самообразовании личности:
«Чтение книг чрезвычайно
необходимо для глухих детей».

Алан Гурвиц, когда учился в
обычной школе для слышащих,
«каждую ночь сидел в библиотеке,
чтобы получить наравне со
слышащими знания, упущенные во время занятий» вследствие
недостатка своего слуха.
There Alan was dean of NTID,
where deaf and hearing impaired
students are taught:
«To disclose the potential of others
is one of every leader’s deal»
«Leadership is an opportunity to
convey your experience to other
people»

Alan admitted that was not
expecting such a turn in his fate:
«A real leader does not know what he
is a leader».
You should get education not only
in you youth, but also continuously
during all your life. Vicki Hurwitz said:
«It is never too late to learn and
change your profession».
She proved this fact saying that she
received a bachelor's degree when she
was 39. She did this in order to gain
wider experience in social
communication.
Reading books plays a crucial role
in self-identity:
«Reading books is extremely
necessary for deaf children».

Alan Hurwitz, when he studied in a
normal school for the hearing, spent
«every night in the library to get
alongside with the hearing students
the knowledge lost during the classes» due to lack of hearing.

Гость рассказал о том, что в
многих странах у глухих нет доступа
к образованию. Например, в
провинции Вьетнама даже нет
начальной школы для глухих детей.
И в заключении он сказал:
«У вас прекрасная
возможность к доступу высшего
образования. И станете лидерами
международного масштаба, не
только среди глухих».
Высшее образование служит
надежной гарантией для глухих в
получении интересной и
перспективной профессии:
«Глухие имеют потенциал для
любой работы».

В презентации «Предполагаемые
и реальные возможности глухих
людей» Пэт ДеКаро рассказывала о
перспективах:
1. Глухие люди являются в
первую очередь людьми, а потом
уже глухими.
2. Надо видеть в перспективе
развитие способностей вместо того,
чтобы концентрироваться на
инвалидности.
Было очень отрадно слышать,
как Вики Гурвиц в теме о лидерстве
процитировал русскую пословицу:
«Двигаться прыжками - двигаться
к высотам».
A guest said that in many countries
deaf people do not have access to
education. For example, in some
Vietnamese provinces there are no
primary schools for deaf children. And
finally, he said:
«You have an excellent
opportunity to access higher
education. And you will become
leaders of international scope, not
only among the deaf ».
Higher education is the best
guarantee for the deaf in making
interesting and promising career:
«The deaf have the potential for
any work».

In the presentation «Assumptions
and expectations of deaf people» Pat
DeCaro spoke about the prospects:
1. Deaf people are primarily human
beings, and then deaf.
2. We have to see in the future
development of abilities, rather than
focus on disability.
It was very gratifying to hear, as
Vicki Hurwitz speaking about
leadership cited a Russian proverb:
«Moving in jumps you will get to the
hight».

В презентации «Интерпретация
смежных культур», разработанной
американцами Пэт ДеКаро и
Алимом Чандани о России было
сказано: «Русские люди редко
смеются и не вступают в разговор с
незнакомыми людьми, и они не
считают такое поведение
выражением холодности или
недружелюбия». Мне хотелось
особо отметить о русском смехе. В
русском языке есть поговорка «Смех
без причины - признак дурачины».
В русском поведении улыбка «для
вежливости», то есть искусственная
улыбка, просто не принята. Если она
опознана как лицемерие, русский
относится к этому настороженно.
Русская улыбка искренна, выражает
хорошее настроение или
расположение к собеседнику.
Поэтому улыбка адресуется в
основном знакомым, и причина
улыбки должна быть понятой для
окружающих. Поэтому отсюда такая
кажущаяся видимость впечатления
для американца, для которого
улыбка обычно используется как
часть своего облика для прикрытия
своего истинного лица, после
посещения России: «Русские редко
смеются».
In the presentation «Cultural
diversity», developed by Americans
Pat DeCaro and Alim Chandani, they
said the following about Russia:
«Russian people rarely smile and don’t
join the conversation with strangers,
and they do not consider this behavior
an expression of coldness or
unfriendliness». I would like to say
something about Russian laughter. In
the Russian language there is a saying
«Laughter without a reason is a sign of
tomfoolery». In Russian behavior a
smile «for a courtesy call», that is an
artificial smile, is simply not accepted.
If it is identified as hypocrisy, Russians
refer to it alert. A Russian smile is
sincere, expresses a good mood or
liking for the interlocutor. Therefore,
the smile is addressed mainly to
friends, and the reason for the smiles is
supposed to be understood by others.
Hence this is an apparent impression
for the Americans, whose smile is
typically used as part of their image, as
a cover for their true face, after a visit
to Russia: «Russian rarely laughs».

Основываясь на впечатлениях от
услышанного, можно делать
обобщенный вывод о основных
характерных чертах настоящего
лидера, независимо от сферы его
влияния (лидером необязательно
является только руководитель
организации, но и заботливый врач,
и инженер, думающий о нуждах
человечества, и мать, любящая
своих детей):
1. Лидер переводит мысли в
практическую плоскость и
воплощает свои решения в жизнь;
2. Лидер умеет контролировать
свои порывы;
3. Обстоятельства могут
сложиться не в пользу для
реализации продуктивной
деятельности. Лидер не сдается и не
утрачивает стимул для этой
деятельности, а опирается на свою
внутреннюю мотивациюИ успех
может прийти после длинной череды
неудач;
4. Лидер держит слово и на этом
слове доводит дело до конца;
5. И наконец, самое важное:
лидер не приносит разрушение, а
созидает мир.
Мне хотелось бы завершить
повествование о впечатлении от
поездки в Англию фразой:
«Если американцы, русские,
китайцы, японцы и другие народы
сотрудничают вместе, то мир
становится не таким
необъятным, а тесным»

After gaining the new impressions,
I can make a generalized conclusion of
the main characteristics of a real leader,
regardless of sphere of his influence
(the leader is not necessarily the head
of an organization, but both a diligent
doctor and an engineer, thinking about
the needs of mankind, and the mother
loving her children) :
1. A leader translates his or her
thoughts into action and embodies their
decisions in life;
2. The leader knows how to control
their emotions;
3. Circumstances may be not in
favor for the implementation of
productive activities. The leader does
not surrender and does not lose
stimulus lose for this work, but relies
on his internal motivation, self-
satisfaction. And success can come
after a long series of failures;
4. The leader keeps his word and
this word brings the case to the end;
5. And finally, most important: a
leader does not bring destruction, but
he builds peace.
I would like to complete my story
of the impressions of travelling to
England by these words:
«If Americans, Russians, the
Chinese, the Japanese and other
nations are cooperating together, the
world is not so immense, but compact»
