For the attention of all club instructors,
Please find below information regarding the SHOTOCAMP 2010, a celebration of the martial arts.
This year’s ShotoCamp will expand last year’s format to include a three day karate technical camp
(26 – 28 November 2010and introducing for the first time, the SHOTOCUP 2010, a combined Kyu
Grade (Colour Belts) and Open Karate and Kumite Championships on the 28th of November.
Please encourage parents and friends to come along and support the participants. If any qualified
time keepers or judges could offer their assistance this would be greatly appreciated.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible and hope you have a really enjoyable day.

gear; gloves, teeth protection, chest
protectors,(for girls) are optional but
recommended. Groin protections are
recommended for boys. Gloves /Mitts should
be approved by KSKA (only white) Any
contestant who wears contact lenses should
bring his own spare lenses and will be required
to re-attach the spare lenses within 2minutes
in case the lenses come off during the match.

The Organizers reserve the right to alter the
categories based on participation.
Minimum 2 participants are required for a category.
In the case where a category is cancelled, the
participant will be placed in a category I level (grade
or age) above his own grade.
A participant may participate in his own qualifying
group and 1 group above him, not below.
Closing date for receipt of entry forms Monday, 15 November 2010. Late entries will not be
entered and will be returned to the club from where
they came.
Qualifying group The age of the competitor stated on the entry form
must be their age on the day of the championships.
The grade of a competitor must be their grade on
the day of the closing date for entries – 15
November 2010 not the date of the championships.

Competition information
The Championships will start at 1.00pm sharp.
Safety Kyu Grade Competition Competitors are not required
to ear hand mitts or gumshields.
Open Competition Handmitts and gumshields
required. Recommended for
Male competitors to wear groin
guards and Female competitors
chest guards.
Kumite Rules Gohon Kumite : will be Jodan & Chudan on the
right side only in the elimination rounds. Finals will be
both right and left side.
Sanbon Kumite : will be Sanbon 1 & Sanbon 2 on
the right side only in the elimination rounds. Finals will
include Sanbon 3.
Kihon Ippon Kumite : will be Jodan, Chudan,
Maegeri on the right side only in the elimination
rounds. Finals will include Yokogeri.
Open Kumite : Recommended for Sankyu (3rd Kyu)
& Above only. Will be judged on traditional Shobu
Ippon Rules (JKA/KWF).
All attack will be AKA (red) first Jodan, Chudan,
Maegeri and any basic block.

Kata Rules Elimination Kata
9th to 6th Kyu : Heian Shodan only.
5th to 1st Kyu : Heian Shodan, Nidan and Sandan only.
Open Kata : Choice of Bassai-dai, Kanku-dai, Jion, Enpi,
Jitte & Hangetsu.
Finals
9th to 6th Kyu : Any Heian kata only.
5th to 1st Kyu : Choice of Heian Yondan, Heian Godan,
Tekki Shodan & Bassai-dai only.
Open Kata : Sentei Kata.
Awards Medals & Diplomas for Kata and Kumite will be awarded
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Presentation of medals: All awards will be presented at the closing ceremony at the
end of the Tournament.

Note to Coaches
All competitors are required to complete and sign a
disclaimer. This must be submitted with the entry forms –
competitors who do not supply a signed disclaimer at time
of entry cannot be entered into the competition. Under
17’s must have consent from a parent or guardian - please
photocopy as necessary
When submitting entries each club is required to nominate
an individual who will act as a coach and be responsible for
booking in their members on the day of the championships.
Prior to the championships such nominees will be sent a
list of their entered competitor entry numbers, labels and
details of the booking in procedure. In addition each club
may also register a second coach by submitting their details
on the entries. Please note access to the competition areas
on the day will be denied to any person who has not
registered prior to the event.
It should be remembered that this is not a WKF
competition, Gi sleeves and trouser leg lengths must not
be too long, the wrists and ankles should be FULLY
EXPOSED, this is for the safety of the opponent and allows
referees and judges to see the “form” of these joints, so
important in deciding whether the technique is executed
correctly (and not with a bent / weak wrist for example).
Body barging and clinching will also be penalized.
Fist mitts must comply with the example shown in the rule
book, ie maximum of 2cm thick, clean and white.
Bad or argumentative behaviour and attitudes showing
disrespect to competitors and or officials will not be
tolerated and will be penalized.
Insurance: All participants should take care of their own
insurance. KSKA Johor / SKA and the Organization
Committee do not accept any liability for injuries or other
damages. Competing it is on your own risk.

Waiver/Release Agreement
Every participant must sign and submit this waiver/release agreement.
Event SHOTOCAMP & SHOTOCUP (SC2010), Johor Bahru, Johor Darul Takzim, Malaysia. 26th
– 28th
November 2010. I understand that there are risks and dangers inherent in participating and/or receiving instruction at the SHOTOCAMP & SHOTOCUP 2010 (all of which will herein be referred to as the EVENT). I also understand that in order to participate and/or receive instruction at the EVENT, I must give up my rights to hold the KANAZAWA-RYU SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO ASSOCIATION OF JOHOR (KANAZAWA-RYU JOHOR), the SEIKEN KARATENOMICHI ACADEMY and all other clubs, schools, instructors, members, officials and representatives (collectively the “Releases”) liable for any injury or damage which I may suffer while participating and/or receiving instruction at the EVENT. Knowing this, and in consideration of being permitted to participate and/or receive instruction at the EVENT, I hereby voluntarily release the Releases, and each of them, from any and all liability resulting from or arising out of my participation and/or receipt of instruction at the EVENT. I understand and agree that I am releasing not only the entities and individuals set forth in the paragraph above, but also the officers, agents, principals, partners, shareholders, directors and employees of those entities or individuals.
