Name of the Institution: JSS College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru
Year of the Report: 2014-15
Section A : Plan of action chalked out in the beginning of the year towards
quality enhancement.
In the direction of enhancement of quality, the IQAC planned the following activities
for the year 2014-15;
1. To start new skill oriented, need based UG/PG programmes

5. Conducting Workshops, Seminars, Conferences, Symposia & Training programmes
6. To strengthen research activities in the college

1. Activities reflecting the Vision and Mission of the institution
The Vision & Mission statements, goals and objectives of the college are as
follows:
VISION:
� To be known as an institution providing need based, skill integrated, cost effective,
quality and holistic education, transforming the students into globally competitive
employable and responsible citizens and to be recognized as centre of excellence.

MISSION:
� To create and acquire relevant knowledge along with skills and global competencies
and disseminate the same among students
� To provide holistic education through relevant curricula, programmes and pedagogic
innovations focusing on employability and self employment
� To undertake research work contributing to the creation of knowledge, skills and its
applications for sustainable development
� To establish linkages and collaborations for the betterment of teaching, learning,
research and extension activities
� To provide good infrastructure, human resource and necessary support services for
the betterment of students’ progress and welfare
� To promote national integration, human rights, universal brotherhood and community
development activities through inclusive practices
The activities reflecting the vision and mission of the institution are furnished in the
following pages.
2. New Academic programmes initiated (UG & PG):
• B.Voc in Food Processing and Engineering
• B.Voc in Software Development
• Advanced Diploma in Animation and Multimedia under Community College Scheme
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:
• Syllabi of currently offered UG Arts subjects and B Com & BBM programmes were
revised and approved in the respective Boards of Studies and Academic Council
4 Inter-disciplinary programmes started:
� Inter-disciplinary components have been introduced by the UG departments of
Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Botany & Microbiology under
‘Star College Scheme’

Examination reforms implemented:
• Conducting make-up examinations for PG students.
• Compulsory review of UG answer scripts where marks awarded exceed 90%
• Evaluation of PG project works by internal and external examiners

7. Initiatives towards faculty development programme
Teachers are encouraged to participate in Orientation programmes, Refresher courses,
Workshops, Seminars & Conferences and to pursue research. Training was given to make
use of ICT in teaching. 60 staff members have participated in workshops / seminars /
conferences organised by other institutions during the year 2014-15 and all most all the
faculty members have participated in the seminars / workshops / conferences organised by
the concerned departments of the college and organised by the college.

Workshops
• One day “Financial Education” Workshop was organized by PG Dept of Commerce
on 28-3-2015. Dr. A.N. Vijay Kumar, Chairman of PGDM, IIPM, Bengaluru was the
Resource Person.
• One day Workshop on “Promotion of Research in Colleges” was organized by the
college on 14-3-2015. It was inaugurated by Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi, Director, UGC
Academic Staff College, University of Mysore, Mysuru. & Presided over by Prof. T.D.
Subbanna, Director, College Education Division, JSS MVP, Mysuru.
• One day Workshop on “Career Planning and Entrepreneurship Development”
was organized by Placement Cell of the college on 9-3-2015. It was inaugurated
by Sri Sudhanva, CEO & MD, Excelsoft Technologies Mysuru.
• Two day UGC Sponsored Workshop on “Counselling in Practice – Challenges
and Remedies” was organised by PG Dept. of Social Work on 13&14-02-2015.
It was inaugurated by Prof. M.G. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, KSOU,
Mukthagangothri, Mysuru. Prof. T.D. Subbanna, Director, College Education
Division, Mysuru presided over the function & Prof. T.B.B.S.V Ramanaiah Prof.
of Social Work, DOS in Social Work Manasagangotri, Mysuru delivered the key
note address.
• Two Day Programme for Redesigning of curricula “B.Com & BBM Programmes”
was organised by Dept. of Commerce & Management on 7&8-02-2015. It was
inaugurated by Prof. G. Kotreshwar, DOS in Commerce Manasagangotri,
Mysuru. Prof. M. Mahadevappa, Finance Officer, UOM, Mysuru were the Chief
Guest & Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, JSSCM-25 presided over
the function.

• One day Workshop on “Right to Information Act” was organised by the college
on 30-08-2014. Dr. Nataraj, Professor, JSS Law College, Mysuru & Prof. K.S.
Suresh, Principal, JSS Law College, Mysuru were the Resource Persons.
• One day Summer School Workshop under Star College Scheme was organised
by the six science departments of the college on 7-7-2014. It was inaugurated
by Padmabhushana Dr. M. Mahadevappa, Chairman, Task Force, SC/ST and
Rural Development, DBT, GOI & Director (Rural Development), JSS MVP,
Mysuru, Keynote Address delivered by Prof. Prakash R Naik, Professor of
Zoology & Den, Faculty of Science, University of Mysore, Mysuru & Presided
over by Prof. T.D. Subbanna, Director, College Education Division, JSS MVP,
Mysuru.
Seminars :
• UGC Sponsored Two Day Seminar on “Samuha Madyamagalu mattu Kannada
Sahithya” was organised by PG Dept. of Kannada on 23&24-02-2015. It was
inaugurated by Sri. Veshveshwar Bhat, Kannadaprabha Newspaper, Bengalore,
Key note address delivered by Dr. H.S. Venkateshamurthy, Bengaluru and Prof.
S.P. Manjunath, Secretary-1, JSS MVP, Mysuru were preside over the function.
• One day Student Centered Seminar on “Importance of Stock Market” was
organised by Dept. of Commerce on 12-01-2015. Sri Amar Guptha, Regional
Manager, ICICI Direct, Centre for Financial Learning were the Resource
Person.
• One day Student Centered Seminar on “Nanna Nota” About the book “Sasive
Thandavalu” written by Smt B.V. Bharathi’s was organised by PG Dept. of
Kannada on 15-11-2014. Essay was presented by S. Jahnave, I MA Kannada
Student and Response by the Author were Smt B.V. Bharathi, Literate,
Bengaluru.
• One day Student Centered Seminar on ‘Agnathanobbana Atma Charitre’ was
organised by PG Dept. of Kannada on 23-5-2014. Dr. Krishnamurthy Hanuru,
Famous Writer, Mysuru was the Resource Person.
Conferences:
• UGC Sponsored Two Day National Conference on “Current Trends in Chemical
Biology” was organised by PG Dept. of Chemistry on 2 & 3 March 2015. It was
inaugurated by Prof. S.N. Hegde, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore,
Mysuru.
• UGC Sponsored Two Day National Conference on “Phytochemicals and
Functional Foods: Current Situation and Future Prospects (PFFCSFT-2015)”

was organised on 20&21-02-2015, by the PG Dept. of Biochemistry. It was
inaugurated by Dr. Harsh Vardhan Batra, Director, Defence Food Research
Laboratory, Mysuru. Dr. G. Venkateswaran, Member, Central Executive
Committee (AMI), Sr. Principal Scientist & Head, Dept. of Food Microbiology,
CFTRI, Mysuru was the Chief Guest and Prof. T.D. Subbanna, Director, College
Education Division, JSS MVP, Mysuru presided over the function.
• UGC Sponsored Two Day International Conference on “Mathematics –
Yesterday & Today (ICMYT-2014) was organised by Dept. of Mathematics on
26&27-12-2014. It was inaugurated by Dr. Muli Mani, Vice Chancellor, B.L.D.E.
University, Bijapur, Dr. Takyum Kim, Professor of Mathematics, Kwangwoon
University, South Korea was the Guest of Honour and Prof. T.D. Subbanna,
Director, College Education Division, JSS MVP, Mysuru presided over the
function.
Orientation Programme:
• Orientation Programme for Science Teachers was organized by the college on
10-2-2015 Dr. Sabyasachi Sarkar, Honorary Emeritus Professor Indian Institute of
Technology-Kanpur & Dr. Praveen Kumar. S, Principal Scientist, Dept. of Science &
Technology and SERB, Delhi were the Resource Persons.
• UGC Sponsored One Day Orientation Programme was organized by the college on
“Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century – Student Centric Approach” on
30-3-2015. It was inaugurated by Dr Ali Khwaja, Founder Head, Banjara Academy,
Bengaluru and it was presided over by Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive,

Awareness Programme:
• Awareness programme on ‘Importance of Voting’ was held on 29-3-2014. Prof. R.M.
Chintamani, Guest Professor, Dept. of Commerce was the Chief Guest.
• Two day workshop to Spark Interest in Science was organized by the Bharmara Trust
of Y.T. & Madhuri Thathachari in association with JSS College of Arts, Commerce &
Science on 24 & 25-8-2014. It was inaugurated by Prof. K.S. Rangappa, Vice
Chancellor, University of Mysore. Smt. Madhuri Thathachari & Prof. R. Srinivasan
Trustee, Bhramara Trust of Y.T. & Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, JSS
College, Ooty Road, Mysuru were present in the function.
• Vachana Gayana – Vyagyana was organized by Akhila Bharatha Sharana Sahithya
Parishattu, Mysuru on 9-12-2014. Vachana Gayana was delivered by Sri H.C.
Kumar, Lecturer, JSS Women’s College, Mysuru. Vyakyana by Prof. Morabada
Mallikarjuna, Principal, Govt. First Grade College, Nanjangud and

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive, JSS College, Ooty Road, Mysuru was
presided over the function.
• KSTA – Open Lecture Series was organized by KSTA & JSS College, Ooty Road,
Mysuru on 29-1-2015. It was inaugurated by Prof. C. Basavaraju, Registrar,
University of Mysore, Dr. A.M. Ramesh, Scientific Officer – III, KSTA, Bengaluru were
the Chief Guest. Prof. T.D. Subbanna, Director, College Education Division, JSS
MVP, Mysuru presided over the function.
• HIV Awareness Jatha was organized by Red Ribbon Club on 14-2-2015. A.V.
Srikantan, Senior Principal, Regional Telecom Traning Centre, Mysuru was the Chief
Guest. Chief Executive and Principal of the college were present in the Jatha.
• PPV & FRA (GOI) Sponsored Training – Cum- Awareness programme on
Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Act was organized by PG Dept. of
Biotechnology on 16-3-2015. Prof. S.P. Manjunath, Secretary-1, JSS
Mahavidyapeetha, Mysuru was preside over the function. Dr. C.L. Laxmipathi
Gowda, Former Deputy Director General for Research, International Crops
Research, Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad was the chief
guest.
Symposium:
• UGC Sponsored Two day National Symposium on “Microbes and Human Welfare”
was organized by PG Dept. of Biotechnology on 23 & 24-03-2015. It was inaugurated
by Padmabhushana Dr. M. Mahadvevappa, Director (Rural Development) JSSMVP,
Mysuru; Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. S.R. Niranjana, FNAAS, FNABS,
Professor, DOS in Biotechnology, University of Mysore, Mysuru; Presided over by
Prof. T.D. Subbanna, Director, College Education Division, JSS MVP, Mysuru & Dr.
N.S. Devaki, President, Association of Microbiologists of India (Mysore Chapter),
CFTRI, Mysuru was the Guest of Honour.

• On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi Prof. T.D. Subbanna donated Rs. 1000/- to
Shakthidhama. Teachers Association distributed fruits to the residents of Shakthidhama. Staff
and students as a part of Swachcha Bharath Abhiyan cleaned the campus and outside the
campus.

Sports activities :
1. In the SBRR Mahajana’s Volleyball Tournament held on 21-22 March, 2014. In which
the Volleyball Team of our college has secured 2nd place.
2. Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji Memorial Mysuru City Inter-
Collegiate Volleyball Tournament was organized by JSSCM – 25, on 06 Sep – 2014,
in which the Ball Badminton Team of our college secured 2nd place.
3. Mysore City Inter Collegiate Tournament was held on 10-9-2014, and our college
Volley Ball team secured 1st place.
4. Mysore City Inter Collegiate Tournament was held during 11&15-10-2014, and Ball
Badminton team of our college secured 2nd place.
5. Mysore City Inter Collegiate Tournament – Athletic was held on 11-02-2015,

1. In the State Level Poet Summit which was organized by Govt. First Grade College,
K.R. Nagar on 28th March 2014 Jayanth H R, I MA (Kan) has secured 2nd Place.
2. Treasure Hunt Competition was organized by the Dept. of Commerce &
Management, JSS College for Women, Saraswathipuram, Mysuru during 3-4 April
2014, III B Com students Nagachandra K M, Pavan S P, Mahadevaswamy,
Pratheepa H H has secured 2nd Place.
3. In the State Level Kannada Bhavageethe competition which was organized by
Sugama Sangeetha Academy Trust, Mysuru on 21-09-2014, Sumanth R M, II BSc

has secured 3rd Place.
4. In the Science Academic Exhibition which was organized by Makkala Dasara
Committee, Mysuru during 27-30 Sep 2014, our college B Sc students (6) has
secured 2nd Place.
5. In the Yuvadasara Quiz which was organized by Yuva Dasara Committee, Mysuru on
2014, the team consisting of Manu GM, III B Sc & Manikanta G, III BA has secured
5th Place.
6. In the Inter Collegiate Technical Fest ‘Tech Vision 2K15’ which was organized by the
dept. of MCA, VVIET, Mysuru during 27-28 Feb 2015, Kishore S has won Treasure
Hunt.
7. In the Suttur Jathra Mahostava which was held during 17-1-2015 to 22-1-2015
following students have won prizes
1. Harish, III B Sc secured 1st Place in Classical Solo Dance
2. Sushmitha, III B Com secured 3rd Place in Classical Song
3. Manoj Kumar S, Naveen Rao C.N, Siddaveerappa M R, Rangaswamy H J,
Manikanta K, III BA & Sumanth R M, II B Sc has secured 3rd Place in Group Song
4. Harish Kumar S K, Maithri B N, III B Sc Nethra, Madhura, III BA, Darshini, I B Voc
has secured 4th Place in Classical Group Dance.
