BLOOD DONATION – LIVERPOOL

JUL 2018 – In association with SEWA UK, Adarsh Pariwar Shakha, Liverpool organized blood donation drive at Liverpool donor center on Jul 7th.

Inspired and motivated by our very own Harkishanji [UK Project Manager, Sewa Day] at NKV in Bradford, Adarsh Pariwar shakha unanimously decided to organize their own blood drive.

With the support of Harkishanji and the Donor team, they were able to fill all available slots within within two days of sending out information. Most were first time donors and full of understandable trepidation. They need not have worried with the team on hand to answer questions / address concerns. There were a total of 6 donors.

For those wishing to organize their own blood drives, Priyanka Mohtashares some useful tips: 1- Overbook – cancellations will be inevitable 2- Inform regularly – provide logistics, time to address questions, do’s and don’ts. It makes things easier on the day

VAN SANCHAR – THAT’S A PICNIC TO YOU AND I!JUN 2018 On a bright sunny day, approximately eighty families, and more than two hundred adults and children from Sale, Altrincham and Didsbury met up on the 24th June at Delamere Forest, Cheshire. We split into four groups broadly of forty persons in each group, headed by a group leader. The elderly and very young chose to rest under the tree shades to watch and cheer. We started with familiarising with other group members, warm-up exercises and basic yoga. We then had rounds of traditional sports helping us to bond with each other and develop those all important teamwork skills. The combined games were followed by a community lunch, every family had brought with them freshly cooked vegetarian meals, with more than fifty varieties of food on display - authentic Indian cooking at its best!

A sing-off between the girls and boys discovered a few gems amongst us, whilst we also managed to keep an eye on Harry Kanes hat trick that day as well! We concluded the day with a plenary session and a group photo. This away day (Van Sanchar) was hosted by Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh Manchester branch, which takes place on Sundays at 1230 at Ashton-on-Mersey School, Sale.

For the walk we will be walking from Krishna Avanti School in Edgwareto the Hare Krishna temple in Watford on the 16th September. We are looking for 700 people or families to walk, each will get a verse from the Gita and if each person raises a target of £700 we will raise £500,000 on the day! However even if you cannot raise £700 don’t worry you can still walk raise what you can! The famous Gaur Gopal das will be joining us for the walk too!!

The Haveli is an opportunity to bring our community together for more cultural activities, education and spiritual rejuvenation and no matter who we are, each of us can contribute to building this spiritual oasis.

By supporting the Gita Walk you will be investing in the cultural and spiritual life of future generations by providing a sanctuary where ancient wisdom and culture will be preserved and shared through classical and innovative ways of teaching. The Haveli will also provide our children with a community hub in which they can celebrate and rejoice under the shelter of Sri Krishna.

VHP UK: Hosts its first British Hindu Conclave of 2018JUL 2018 Scientists, lawyers, philosophers, writers, social workers, medical doctors, armed forces personnel and members of various Hindu organisations came together on Saturday 21 July 2018 for a day long conclave at the Bushey Academy to analyse and highlight the British Hindu contribution to society as well as the challenges the community faces. The event was hosted by the VishwaHindu Parishad UK (VHP). The proceedings were conducted by Professor Nawal Prinja, Dr Poonam Kakkar and DrTribhovan Jotangia (VHP UK President) chaired the event.

VHP invited guests from all National Hindu organisationsand local community leaders and prominent Parliamentarians such as the Rt. Hon. Keith Vaz MP and Lord Jitesh Gadhia also presented their views on how to better facilitate interest between British Hindus and the authorities and Hindu representation in British politics respectively.

British Hindus are the third largest religious faith group in the UK and the community is the most law abiding, hardworking and tolerant, yet are marginalized on a mainstream level when it comes to considering issues they face collectively. On the backdrop of their contribution not being recognised, VHP put together this conclave to address how to raise awareness for the British Hindu community.

The event was attended by 200 delegates representing over 30 British Hindu organisations. There was a lively Q&A session full of positive ideas for the future. The findings will be formally published at the House of Commons later.
