TEXA Tool Users to Have Instant Access to F-M Parts Information, Technical SupportBecause every minute added to a repair can reduce workshop profitability, the ability to instantly access the right replacement parts information and technical details is an invaluable business advantage. And Federal-Mogul has established an innovative partnership with a leading diagnostic tool supplier to make this advantage a reality.

Federal-Mogul and TEXA have announced a new solution that allows workshop professionals to identify the correct OE-quality replacement products and receive vital repair-related information directly through their TEXA diagnostic tools. This timesaving service, which will be available through TEXA’s new IDC4 software, eliminates the need for the technician to leave the service bay in order to access parts and repair information.

“The users of TEXA tools can access directly from the diagnostic tool to our Spare part catalogue, following the instructions explained on www.fm-ecat.eu, Federal-Mogul’s market-leading electronic parts catalogue, which covers engine, sealing, braking, chassis, ignition and other components for millions of applications,” said Olivier Legrand, Federal-Mogul marketing and business development director Europe, Middle East, Africa & South America.

In addition to a dynamic link to Federal-Mogul’s www.fm-ecat.eu electronic catalogue, the new TEXA software will enable users to access any of thousands of product and repair bulletins and other valuable technical information available in support of Federal-Mogul brands.

Federal-Mogul’s MOOG® brand is going much further through a sophisticated and highly durable new “Cataphoresis” coating on all sheet metal wishbones and track control arms. And in doing so, MOOG is adopting and even exceeding the same technology now required by most vehicle OEMs.

“Very few aftermarket chassis parts manufacturers worldwide have stepped up to Cataphoresis technology because they want to avoid the extra cost that comes with the improved rust resistance,” said Gültekin Hazer, Federal-Mogul Technical Manager MOOG, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The MOOG brand is different. Our parts are engineered and built to earn the customer’s trust by providing not only an easier repair but also the best possible performance and durability.”

Cataphoresis technology is a highly effective pre-treatment of the component prior to painting. The part is immersed in a bath of electrically charged paint that covers all surfaces – inner and outer – with a consistent coating. Next, the part is baked at high temperature to ensure superior bonding and coating strength.

Most competing aftermarket chassis suppliers use a far less effective, electrostatic painting, method that is no longer accepted by OEMs for exterior components.

Recent durability testing showed that competitors’ electrostatically painted parts were covered with corrosive rust on exterior surfaces within just 300 hours of exposure to salt spray, and inner surfaces were rust-covered within just 100 hours. MOOG double-layer sheet metal wishbones showed no signs of rust corrosion even after 750 hours of salt spray testing and single-layer wishbones were rust-free beyond 850 hours.

“That’s a major advantage in the minds of the service provider and her or his customer,” Hazer said. “Excessive rust can compromise component strength and, ultimately, the driver’s safety. Thus, using MOOG is an excellent way to earn the consumer’s trust.”

Knorr-Bremse ProTec S® Caliper Spring TechnologyNow Available Through Ferodo® CV Brake Pad RangeFederal-Mogul has introduced a range of premium-quality Ferodo® commercial-vehicle brake pads equipped with Knorr-Bremse’s advanced ProTec S® caliper spring technology. These new brake pads, featuring springs pre-welded to the back plate, are available for a variety of truck and trailer applications in combination with Knorr SN7 calipers. Ferodo’s friction product engineers worked closely with Knorr-Bremse and leading European commercial-vehicle OEMs to bring the benefits of ProTec S technology – including longer spring service life and quieter, safer and more efficient brake operation – to the Ferodo product line.

“The Ferodo brand is driven by technology, and we’re consistently the first to introduce the latest OE-preferred designs to our broad portfolio of replacement friction components,” said Silvano Veglia, Federal-Mogul product marketing director, braking, Europe, Middle East and Africa. “so the ProTec S spring design is an ideal addition to our product range.”

Unlike conventional caliper spring retention systems, which rely on a clamp for attachment to the brake pad, the ProTec S design features a direct, welded connection between the spring and back plate. This approach increases application force across the brake pad, resulting in improved guidance of the pad and reduced vibration and noise. Because the ProTec S design acts as a sliding device, it protects against abrasion caused by dirt between the spring and retaining clip and provides easier back-sliding of the brake pad away from the disc, which reduces idle wear. Also, with the spring pre-attached, this design eliminates the unsafe practice of reusing old springs with new brake pads.

Federal-Mogul in recent years has received more Automotive News PACE™ technology innovation awards – including two announced in early April – than any other supplier. The EcoTough®-coated piston and LKZ® oil control ring. The EcoTough coating combines the properties of low wear and low friction in a single application. It offers superior wear resistance and reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.8 percent as compared to conventional piston coatings. The coating also helps reduce CO2 emissions.

The two-piece LKZ oil control ring reduces oil consumption by up to 50 percent and friction by up to 15 percent as compared to the best conventional two-piece oil rings. Additional benefits include improved fuel economy, reduced emissions and longer oil life.

Federal-Mogul also had two technologies selected as PACE finalists this year: IROX™ Polymer Overlay, a coated engine bearing shell that helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions; and K16™ Bonded Unipiston®, a single-piece

bonded, sealed hydraulic clutch piston featuring an innovative elastomer compound the does not require oven curing.

Federal-Mogul recently completed one of its most important capital investments for the European aftermarket with the grand opening of a state-of-the-art distribution centre in Madrid, Spain. The new facility, which covers more than 8,000 m2 and retains a stock of over 35,000 parts, is a key element of the company’s strategy to provide best-in-class product availability and support to distributors throughout Spain.

“Growing in the Spanish market is a priority for Federal-Mogul,” said Martin Hendricks, Federal-Mogul vice president, Global Aftermarket, Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America. “We plan to strengthen our position with Federal-Mogul’s global leading brands, world-class customer service and effective program management.”

The new Federal-Mogul Aftermarket Coslada logistics centre already distributes more than 110,000 parts monthly but has the capacity to handle nearly twice that volume.
