DIE onwettige besetting van die Sishen-myn isDinsdagoggend vroeg beindig nadat die poli-sie die stakers verwyder het. Kumba Iron Orese kommunikasiebestuurder, Gert Schoeman,het in n nuusverklaring bevestig dat die mynal die swaar myntoerusting waarop die sta-kers sedert 3 Oktober beslag gel het, terugge-kry het. Skade aan die toerusting word herstelen die myn beplan om so gou as moontlik weervoluit te produseer.
Die meerderheid van die onwettige stakers
het die ultimatum om die myn te verlaat enhulle aan te meld vir dissiplinre verhore, ge-ignoreer. Di verhore was Maandag om 11:00en die stakers kon verduidelik waarom hullenie afgedank behoort te word nie. Gevolglik ishulle afgedank. Strafregtelike klagte van af-dreiging, intimidasie, diefstal, oortreding,kwaadwillige beskadiging van eiendom enminagting van die hof is gel.
Maandag het Kumba Iron Ore n bevel vandie arbeidshof verkry wat die onwettige sta-kers opdrag gegee het om onmiddellik die mynte verlaat, die toerusting by hulle uit te los en
nie nader as 500 m van die maatskappy se ter-rein te kom nie. Die hofbevel het ook ingesluitdat die polisie die stakers moet verwyder in-dien hulle nie die bevel gehoorsaam nie.
Norman Mbazima, Kumba se uitvoerendehoof, s die einde van die staking beteken datdie maatskappy so gou as moontlik kan terug-keer na sy besigheid, naamlik die ontginningvan ystererts. Hy bedank die oorgrote meer-derheid werknemers dat hulle kalm gebly heten nie die staking ondersteun het nie. Hy be-dankookdiepolisiewatdiebesettingop npro-fessionele manier beindig het. Werknemers

DIE voorsitter van AfriForum seKurumantak, Nico Erasmus, hetingegryp om die wateraangeleent-heid op Kuruman te probeer oplos.
Kragdrade was die rede vir diewaterkrisis verlede naweek.
Ook die besoek van kwaaddoe-ners wat die heining stukkendknip, met die leer opklim of met diekrane peuter, kan verhoed word.
Met Erasmus se hulp is die draadherstel, die hek gesweis en herstelen die leer 3 m bo die grond afge-sny.

het Erasmus, Sean Fotheringham(voorsitter: Kuruman-sakekamer)en Muggie van der Westhuizen(voorsitter: Kuruman-belastingbe-talers) n vergadering met die Ga-Segonyana-munisipaliteit bel virDinsdag. Die munisipale bestuur-der het die vergadering uitgestel.
Punte wat hulle wou aanpak, wasdie ontoereikende toerusting van
vreemde kontrakteurs sodat hulleplaaslike kontrakteurs soos DVDen Bernard Whitehead van Kalaha-ri -bore moet ontbied, veiligheid bydie pompe, onvoldoende kragtoe-voer, die verkoop van water, ge-bruik van gesuiwerde rioolwateren die telemetrie-stelsel.
Ook die drie plakkershutte watby die pompe opgerig is, waarvandie raad bewus is, is vir hulle ngroot kommer.

Gewilde speurderjag nou op sjebiens

AO PIETER VENTER van die Suid-Afri-kaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) op Upingtonhet die afgelope drie jaar diep spore in digemeenskap getrap deur die aantal sakewat hy opgelos het.
Hy was die afgelope drie jaar verbondeaan die speurtak van die SAPD Paballeloen het in di tyd n oplossyfer vanongeveer 80% gehad. Dit beteken datsowat 80% van die sake waaraan hygewerk het tot skuldigbevindings geleihet.
Hy het in moordsake en onnatuurlikedoodsake gespesialiseer en het ook in diewintermaande aan sake gewerk waarinmense verkool is wanneer hul huise aandie brand geraak het.
Hy skryf sy sukses toe aan die feit dathy so gou moontlik n saak wil afhandelnadat hy dit ontvang het.
Hy glo daaraan dat niks mag oorstaannie, want dan verloor n mens baiebelangrike leidrade. Hy het dus baieoortyd gewerk omdat hy nie kon wag metdie opvolg van inligting nie.

In die Noord-Kaap is 80% van misdaadweens die ho drankmisbruik en werk-loosheid. Onwettige sjebiens jaag misdaadop en is ons grootste kopseer.
Tog gaan hy die dae by die speurtakmis. Hy het sake wat nog nie afgehandelis nie en wat hooggeregshofsake kanword.
Hy hoop dat di sake tot skuldigbevin-dings kan kom.
Hoewel hy nie Paballelo gaan verlaat insy nuwe hoedanigheid as drankoffisiernie, gaan hy tog sekere aspekte van syspeurwerk mis, veral die goeie verhoudingwat hy met die gemeenskap ontwikkel het.Daar het n sterk vertrouensbandontstaan en die gemeenskap was baiebehulpsaam. Ek het met die families vandie oorlewendes n baie noue bandgesmee.
Volgens ao. Marina Brewis, woordvoer-der van die SAPD Paballelo, is hy baiegewild en dra die gemeenskap vanPaballelo hom op die hande, want hulleweet as hy die speurder op die saak is, issukses verseker.

Geld vir oues met basaar genDIE Afrikaanse ChristelikeVrouevereniging (ACVV) sedienssentrum hou op 27 Ok-tober van 09:00 af n basaar indie Oranjehof-tehuis vir be-jaardes se eetsaal.
Die dienssentrum ontvangnet n baie klein subsidie vandie regering, maar lewer nomvattende diens aan be-jaardes op Upington.
Elke lid van die dienssen-trum dra n bedrag by vir diedienste wat hy of sy ontvang.Dit is egter onvoldoende omin alle behoeftes te voorsien.Daarom is die sentrum am-per geheel en al afhanklikvan die publiek en vrywilli-gers om diens te kan lewer.
Die sentrum het twee opge-leide, vrywillige susters wattuisbesoeke aan lede bringom bloeddruk- en suikertoet-se en ander algemene medie-se dienste te lewer.
Lede word ook een maalper maand na die munisipalekliniek vervoer waar hul ge-sondheidstoestand gevalu-eer word. Een keer permaand is daar n voetkliniekin die dienssentrum. Twee
keer per week word medisy-ne gehaal en by lede afgele-wer.
Op Donderdae word vandie lede van die dienssen-trum wat nie vervoer het nievir inkopies dorp toe ge-bring. Die lede ontvang ookelke dag kos wat by hul huise
afgelewer word.Om al die dienste te kan le-
wer moet die dienssentrumsy staatsubsidie en lede sebydraes aanvul.
Daarom word n beroep opdie Upington-gemeenskapgedoen om die basaar te on-dersteun.

Dikwels lees of sien n mensberigte in die media oor mensewat hul amp misbruik ofsommer net iets aanvang wathul beroep in n swak lig stel.
Die afgelope paar dae was daarweer vele berigte oor onderwy-sers en polisiemanne wat hulamp misbruik het. Van nkleuterskoolonderwyser wat 19kinders in n klein voertuigvervoer het tot n ander onder-wyser wat onbetaamlike fotosvan skoolkinders versprei het.
Natuurlik is daar ook die gevalvan die polisiemanne wat nouondersoek word vir die vermoe-delik gewelddadige aanval op nman in hul aanhouding. Di manhet gesterf weens die behande-ling wat hy vermoedelik in die
sel gekry het.Daar is geen manier hoe die
optrede goedgepraat kan wordnie en oortreders wat hul ampmisbruik, moet die swaarstestraf opgel word. Dit moet tensterkste veroordeel word.
Wat egter jammer is, is dat dieoptrede van individue dikwels leitot die veralgemening dat almalwat sulke ampte beklee aandieselfde oortredings skuldig is.Dan word die goeie werk watgedoen word deur ander in diampte misgekyk.
In die onderwys en diepolisiediens is daar wonderlikemense wat veel meer doen aswat van hulle verwag word. Watnooit enige erkenning kry vir ditwat hulle in moeilike omstandig-hede regkry nie en wat baieselde eens n dankie ontvang.Hulle sal nooit hul naam in nkoerant sien nie.
Veralgemening behoort ookuitgeroei te word.
God moet die fokusvan ons lewe wees

Ons hetdit reggekry om 30 minute te oefen,as n mens nou die oproep aan Dier-baarste en die twee SMSe wat ekgou gelees het, aftrek. Ook diekramp en die doodspuit van n baielelike spinnekop. Ek voel tevrede,maar besef dit was net die begin, ditsal later beter gaan.
Die volgende dag kon ek ampernie uit die bed kom nie, terwyl Dier-baarste se lyf niks makeer nie. Ekhet mos ges hy het gekul. Elke be-weging was n pyniging en ek moestwee Disprins drink. Sedertdien hetons nog nie weer geoefen nie . . .
SAPS helpfulafter accidentJANA BECKETT, Cape Town:
ON 8 September my husband andI were returning home to CapeTown from the Kgalagadi and hada horrible accident between Uping-ton and Springbok. The one minuteI was happily driving on thestraight road at 120 km/h and thenext the car was out of control andwe were rolling.
WO Pieter Burger was waitingfor a friend at the side of the roadand the accident happened in frontof him. He was able to tell me thatit was our wheel that had come offcausing me to lose control. The axlehad sheared off.
He told us we had rolled at leastten times, sometimes in the airsometimes on the ground and wentstraight over the fence at the sideof the road.
We were incredibly lucky and al-though very shaken up andbruised, scraped and battered es-sentially we were fine.
Burger was amazing, he radioedfor help as there was no cellphonereception where we were, organ-ised an ambulance which took usto the Springbok Hospital, organ-ised for the car to be towed and or-ganised for the Springbok police topick up all our things, which werescattered all over the veld, and thearea to be cleaned up. The wonder-ful men of the Springbok police sta-tion did a superb job and I was laterable to retrieve our things safe andsound from the Springbok policestation.
We had been camping and had alot of quite expensive equipment,everything was there.
We are very grateful.

MANY years ago in America Mar-tin Luther King Jnr. made a speechstarting with these words: I have adream. He laid out his dream andvision for everyone in America.
I think that the broadcasting ofthat speech must have reached Nel-sonMandelaat somestageofhis life.He must have said to himself: Ihaveavision forSouthAfrica.Thatvision included every South Afri-can, regardless of colour, race orgender,whoshouldhaveabetter lifein South Africa. Never did he imagi-ne that the people he went to jail for,for 27 years, would destroy his vi-sion in such a short period of time.
I believe his vision did not includestealing from the poor, raping thejustice system, corruption from thehighest level to the lowest, lettingthe poor become poorer, the comple-te collapse of municipal and provin-cial infrastructure, the stealing andwastingofmoney that is supposed tobuild a rainbow nation and educati-onandmedical serviceson thebrinkof total collapse. The list is endless.
The slogan says: 100 years of self-less struggle. Selfless means it inclu-des everybody except yourself. Itshould say: 82 years of selfless strug-gle and 18 years of selfish freedom.
Ask yourself, which part of the vi-sion are you: the 82 years of selflessstruggle plus 27 years of jail or 18years of selfish freedom, leading tothe destruction of a nation and itspeople.

EK het Kuruman onlangs vir die50 jaar-renie van die 1962-matriek-klas besoek.
Dit was n skok om te merk hoevervalle die dorp is. Oral langs diepaaie en strate is rommel gestrooi.Daar is geen strepe op die stratemeer nie nie by die verkeerslig,stopstrate, voetoorgange, parkeer-plekkeof spoedwallenie.Diegedeel-te voor die destydse pos- en land-droskantoor was eens op n tyd ntuin nou groei daar net onkruid.Straatligte brand nie oral nie.
Ek het moeite gehad om my pa segraf in die begraafplaas te vind.Grafstene is oorgroei met gras enonkruid. Daar is nie meer n hek nieen wat veronderstel is om n ingangte wees is met rommel besaai. Vanomheining is daar nie sprake nie.
n Besoek aan die munisipaliteitwas nie besonder bevredigend nie.Daar is skynbaar nie genoeg wer-kers nie en daar word nie meer virdie instandhouding van die begraaf-plaas begroot nie. Die aanbring vanstrepe op die paaie het om die eenof ander rede tot stilstand gekom.
As daar n kompetisie sou weesvir die vuilste dorp van die jaar souKuruman, wat eens n mooi dorpwas, waarskynlik loshande wen.
Wat duidelik is, is dat wat dieplaaslike owerheid betref daar nieveel verwag kan word nie. Dit wilvoorkom asof die wil en kundigheidontbreek.
Asdaar nomdraaistrategiebeginword om Kuruman van verdere ag-teruitgang te red sal dit van die be-lastingbetalers en inwoners selfmoet kom.

PETRUS JOHANNES ERASMUS (beter be-kend as Pietie), gebore op die plaas Dagbreeknet buite Kuruman, is onlangs op 65-jarigeouderdom oorlede.
Hy het in Februarie 1974 aan die Kuruman-munisipalteit diens aanvaar. Hier het hy diemunisipale tuine omgetower wat aan Kuru-man vele eerbewyse besorg het. Al die muni-sipale tuine en die sportterreine op Kuru-man, asook in die swart woonbuurte rondomKuruman, is deur hom aangel en ontwerp.
N 33 jaar se diens aan die Kuruman-muni-sipaliteit het hy in 2007 afgetree om n welver-diende ruskans te geniet.
Sy gesondheid het die afgelope jare agter-uitgegaan en aan die einde van Augustus ishy in die Rosepark-hospitaal in Bloemfonteinopgeneem. N n maand lange stryd in die in-tensiewe eenheid het hy op 28 September, om-ring deur sy geliefdes, gesterf.
Die familielede is dankbaar vir al die on-dersteuning en medelye wat hulle die afgelo-pe tyd ontvang het. Hy word deur sy vrou,Tinkie, sy twee seuns, Nico en Johan, sy dog-ter, Tania, en ses kleinkinders oorleef.

DIE veldbrande wat onlangs in die Kuru-man-Kathu-gebied verwoesting gesaai het,het weer bewys hoe gemeenskappe in kri-sistye kan saamstaan.
Braam van der Westhuizen, voorsittervan die DA se Kalahari-kiesafdeling en dis-trikraadslid, het ges hoewel die omvangvan die brande nog nie bepaal is nie, is dieskade aan weiding en diere wat gevrek het,
reeds miljoene rande.My beskeie mening is dat die stelsel weer
die boeregemeenskap in die steek gelaat hetdeurdat permitte en hor gesag as verskoninggebruik ishoekomplaaslike owerhedeniekonbystand bied nie. Dit is n massiewe ramp virdie boeregemeenskappe en opkomende swartboere in die omgewing en ons versoek dat ditas rampgebied verklaar word.

sy innigedank teenoor n ieder en nelkuit-gespreek wat dag en nag gewerk het om diebrande te bestry.
Daar is mense wat dae lank nie geslaapof geet het nie. Ons waardeer elkeen sehulp van watter aard ook al. Mense van alleoorde het hulp aangebied, hetsy hul toerus-ting of voertuie. Private firmas het ook hulhulp verleen.
McGluwa doen n beroep op die regeringom so spoedig moontlik in te gryp.

DIE onlangse ren was n sen vir elke boere-hart. Hoewel die skade nie ongedaan gemaakkan word nie, was die ren n groot geskenkvan Bo. Dit het nie net die stof afgewas nie,maar ook die brandreuk wat soos n donkerkombers oor die Kalahari-veld gehang het.
Agri-Kuruman en die boeregemeenskapstaan verstom oor die goeie gesindheid watdeur die gemeenskap van en rondom Kuru-man geopenbaar word. Volgens Deon Hoon,ondervoorsitter van Agri-Kuruman, is reedsses groot vragte voer afgelaai en word binne-kort nog ses afgelaai.
Die voer is alles geskenk, ons moet net dievervoerkoste betaal, s Hoon.
Volgens hom kom van die voer van die Vaal-hartsgebied.
Daar is genoeg voer geskenk en Agri-Kuru-manhet intussenbydiedepartementvan land-bou en ander instansies aansoek om geldelikebystand gedoen, s Hoon.
Volgens hom sal die hoeveelheid weidingwat afgebrand het, die maatstaf wees waarvol-gens die boere voer sal ontvang.
Skade aan die weiding is ongeveer R6 mil-joenvir die beeste per jaar,maar skadeaandieinfrastruktuur moet nog bepaal word, s hy.
Volgens Hoon doen die boere opnames ophul onderskeie plase sodat die algehele skadeaan die infrastruktuur bepaal kan word.
Agri-Kuruman bedank elkeen wat gehelphet om die nood te verlig.

DIE sekuriteitskameras wat bydie Palmgate-inkopiesentrumingesit is, is nie om dowe neutegedoen nie. n Motorinbraak isonlangs op die kameras vasge-vang.
Mnr. Alan Morrison was op 28September in Eerste NasionaleBank om R800 se kleingeld tekry. Ek het oorkant dietuisnywerheid in Bearestraatgeparkeer. Di radiostasie het in 1999begin nadat gemeenskaplei-ers besluit het om die kommu-nikasiegaping te oorbrugdeur n gemeenskaps-radiostasie te begin.
In daardie jare was die kon-sep van gemeenskappe wathul eie radiostasie kan stig,bestuur en beheer vreemd.Hulle het egter in hierdie ideegeglo en n voorlegging aandie destydse OnafhanklikeKommunikasie-owerheid ge-doen.
Die uitsaailisensie is aanRadio Riverside uitgereik entoetsuitsendings het vroeg in1999 begin. Op 11 Oktober hetdie radiostasie amptelik ge-open.
Radio Riverside het met netminder as sewe heeltydsewerknemers begin en vandagis daar 29 heeltydse en 12 deel-tydse werknemers.
Radio Riverside het in Meivanjaar twee gesogte eerbe-wyse van die Media Develop-ment and Diversity Agency(MDDA) en Sanlam-gemeen-skapmediatoekennings inDurban ontvang. Een van dietwee is die Rantho-Letsebe-Beste Gemeenskap-mediaeer-bewys vir 2012. Hierdie eerbe-wys word gemaak aan n ge-meenskapmediaprojek watdie meeste doen om sy ge-meenskap by projekte betrok-ke te kry.
Die twee eerbewyse wat diehoogtepunt is van Radio Ri-verside se bestaan, is deel van

Die stasie se aansoek isvroeg in 2012 goedgekeur opvoorwaarde dat die ateljees inRadio Riverside se eie gebougenstalleer word.
Nou moes n geskikte plekgekry word. Die stasie het inRobinsonstraat 3 n gebou ge-koop en in Februarie inge-trek.
Die kantoor bied genoegruimte vir administrasie endie bou van ateljees.
Die kantoor het sewe sub-kantore, nkombuis ennogge-noeg ruimte vir moontlikeaanbouing. Die stasie moes ndeposito van R216 000 betaal.Die bedrag is deur die DesertPalace- casino en -hotel ge-borg.
Die bydrae het verseker datdie stasie nou kan spog met syeie kantoor en die nuwe digi-tale ateljees wat na verwag-ting van die begin van Novem-ber vanjaar in werking gaanwees.

n PROJEK waaraan gr. 11-leerlinge gaandeelneem, is verledeVrydagoggendmet nbe-soek van Ashwin Willemse, mede-aanbiedervan SuperSport en n oud-Springbokvleuel,aan die Horskool Kathu begin.
Die organiseerder, Llewellyn Jenner, be-stuurder van Synntec, s die idee is dat gr. 11-leerlinge nou reeds die geleentheid kry omhulle vir hul toekoms te ontwikkel. Hulleneem n volle jaar (2013) aan die program deelwaarvoor hulle erkenning vir hul betrokken-heid by die gemeenskap sal kry. Elkeen wataan buitemuurse bedrywighede en gemeen-skapsgebeure deelneem, sal n sertifikaat virhul deelname ontvang byvoorbeeld besoekeaan hospitale, ouetehuise, dierebeskermingen Kansa-projekte.
Skole wat aan die projek gaan deelneem, is
die Horskole Kathu en Gamagara (Deben)en die Hotazel Mine School.
Jenner het die projek bekend gestel en aandie leerlinge uitgel dat elkeen n droom heten homself moet afvra wat hy wil doen enwaar hy wil wees. Ook dat die lewe hom niksskuld nie, maar as hy gee, sal hy meer terug-kry as wat hy gee.

Afrigters wat n invloed op Willemse se le-we gehad het, was Chester Williams by dieSuid-Afrikaanse sewesrugby en White by dieo.21-rugby.
Die hoogtepunt van sy rugbyloopbaan wasdie jaareindgeselligheid van die Springbok-span toe hy as nuweling van die jaar, spelersse speler van die jaar en die Suid-Afrikaanserugbyspeler van die jaar vir 2003 aangewysis.
Willemse se vertelling hoe hy saam met dieregtervleuel Breyton Paulse as linkervleuelin Paulse se 50ste toets teen Ierland in Dublinopgedraf het, het hoendervel gegee.
