Multi-use Paths are paved rights-of-way separated from streets.These paths are shared withpedestrians and often are called multi-use paths much wider than standard sidewalks (3m+).

Bike Lanes are on-street facilities designated for cyclists using stripes and stencils. Bike lanes mayinclude buffer striping to provide greater separation between cyclists and parked or moving vehicles.Bike lanes are the preferred treatment for all arterial and collector streets on the bikeway network, andnot typically installed on low-volume, low-speed residential streets.

Bike Routes are streets designated for bicycle travel and shared with motor vehicles. While the onlyrequired treatment is signage, streets are designated as bike routes because they are suitable forsharing with motor vehicles and provide better connectivity than other streets.

Bike Paths provide space that is exclusively for cyclists and separated from motor vehicle travel lanes,parking lanes, and sidewalks. Curbs, bollards, or planter boxes provide physical separation betweencyclists and moving cars.

Recreational Paths are are trails that can be used by pedestrians/hikers and mountain bikes.The trails take advantage of the natural topography and may be equipped with boardwalks,lookouts, stairs and way-finders.
