Welcome to Leadership, Team Building & Effective Management
I’m delighted that you’ve chosen this class as one of the electives
in your advanced degree program here at UWM.
In the context of our Mission, you’ll have the chance to set and
take steps toward achieving important leadership, team-building
and effective management goals of your own as we explore our
key topic areas using contemporary, practical resources targeted
for practicing managers.
During our time together, you’ll use the ideas we’re learning to
prepare five Case Memos to solve a number of short cases. You’ll
create five Personal Apps that will allow you to apply what you’re
learning here in your own work and personal life. You’ll contribute
to a robust in-class exploration of our Mission topics. From time
to time, leaders from a variety of organizations will stop by to
share their leadership stories with us. Finally, you’ll take part in
the Ultimate YouTube Challenge. You and your colleagues will
create a Ted-Talk to post on YouTube. It’s the real-world test of
your ability to apply what we’re learning and communicate it to
others in a powerful, convincing and engaging way.
You’ll get timely, specific feedback from me on your Case Memos
and Personal Apps and from an executive panel on your YouTube
creation.
As we go forward, if there is anything you need to make this the
best possible experience for you (maybe even one of the best
classes you’ve taken in your UWM graduate program) please let
me know. We can communicate anytime by e-mail, phone, Skype or
in-person.
My job is to make sure that you’re 100% successful achieving our
Mission for the course, your own personal goals for the class and
the best possible grade. (Note that I comp you in grade $$, not
points – see Page 7.) My promise is to provide the direction and
support you need to be as successful as you want to be in
BUSMGMT 715.
Yours truly,
Dennis Sterling
