Deployments – Technology from Ideas Provision of technical & operational support to TfI for the
trial & validation of novel elastomeric moorings
“Using SmartBay infrastructure we have now deployed 4 x 5T tethers at sea, allowing us to gather real time performance data and further develop our product concept and deployment procedures. Without the SmartBay facilities and resources we would not be able to undertake this type of full scale ‘laboratory’ demonstration.” Noel O’Halloran CEO - Technology from ideas
• Re-design, adapt, marinise and ruggedise
Tyndall IMU's to be suitable for deployment in harsh marine environments
• Deploy and maintain the MIMU's on SmartBay buoys
• Analyse and contextualise the data gathered and disseminate to SmartBay stakeholders
• Integrate next generation technology into existing infrastructure available through the SmartBay program to achieve economic impact in the marine sector
Deployment and Analysis of Smart Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) in a Marine Environment (MIMU)
“SmartBay's capabilities and facilities are essential to the success of this project - the WIMU’s are safely housed & supplied with power, high quality data is transmitted to shore in real time, and their servers handle the large amounts of data throughput and storage. The expertise of SmartBay staff has also been invaluable, from advice on preparing devices for the marine environment, to solving any problems that arose with data transmission and storage. Deploying WIMUs at sea would have been highly impractical without SmartBay's assistance.” Donal Kennedy Tyndall National Institute

Uasghrádú na Suíomhe
Uasghrádú na Suíomhe Cable Project:
A standard telecommunications cable from a shore station to the wave energy test
site providing power and data connectivity to WECs & subsea test and monitoring
platforms
SeaStation:
The sea station will be a small floating research platform approximately 50 metres
squared. It will facilitate power and communications to wave energy devices and
will act as a simulated grid connection.
Acoustic Array:
A state of the art underwater noise monitoring array for the benefit of WEC
developers to aid in environmental monitoring and mitigation strategies.
