Siamo orgogliosi di inviarvi la nostra news letter con i punteggi ricevuti dai nostri vini in Italia durante il 2011.

Quest’anno sono stati presentati alla stampa il San leonardo 2006, il Villa Gresti 2006 ed il Terre 2008.

Abbiamo ricevuto il 15° Tre Bicchieri del Gambero Rosso, il 10° Cin-que Grappoli di Duemilavini, il 5° vino dell’Eccellenza de l’Espresso, le famose Tre Stelle di Veronelli e quest’anno anche il riconoscimento della nuova guida di Slow food.

Siamo inoltre fieri di annunciarvi che l’Associazione Sommelier Ita-liana, ci ha conferito un prestigioso premio in onore dei 150 Anni dell’Unita d’Italia, siamo stati dichiarati “Azienda dell’Anno 2011”, un grande riconoscimento che va a sommarsi all’Oscar per il Miglior vino Rosso Italiano ricevuto nel 2002 e l’Oscar come miglior azienda Italiana ricevuto nel 2005 conferito in Campidoglio a Roma dall’As-sociazione Sommelier Italiana.

Inoltre l’Associazione Sommelier Italiana delegazione Abruzzese, ci ha conferito il premio come miglior vino d’Italia.

L’associazione Sommelier Italiana delegazione Piemontese, ci ha in-serito nella prestigiosa degustazione dedicata ai vini che hanno fatto la storia d’Italia.

Siamo stati selezionati per la 18ma volta dal Wein Festival di Merano nella sezione Centum, i 100 migliori vini d’Italia.

Questi sono i riconoscimenti ricevuti in Italia e siamo ora in attesa dei punteggi sulle guide internazionali.

È stata un’annata ricca di soddisfazioni e possiamo guardare al futuro con grande entusiasmo.

We are proud to enclose our newsletter, which on this occasion features the ratings given to our wines in Italy over the course of 2011.

This year, San Leonardo 2006, Villa Gresti 2006 and Terre 2008 were presented to the press.

We received our 15th “Three Glasses” award from Gambero Rosso, our 10th “Five Bunches” from the Duemilavini guide, our 5th “Wine of Excel-lence” acknowledgement from L’Espresso and the famous Three Stars from Veronelli, and we even made an appearance in the new Slow Food guide.

Moreover, we are delighted to inform you that the AssociazioneSommelier Italiana (the Italian Sommeliers’ Association or AIS) has bestowed a prestigious honour on us to mark the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification, naming us “Winery of the Year 2011”. This immensely important award, which was given to us in the Campidoglio in Rome by the AIS, takes its place alongside the Oscar for “Best Italian Red Wine” that we received in 2002 and the Oscar for “Best Italian Winery” that we got in 2005.

The Abruzzese delegation of the AIS awarded us the prize for the very best Italian wine.

Meanwhile, the Piedmont delegation of the AIS saw fit to include us in the prestigious tasting session of the wines that have gone down in Italian history.

In addition, we were selected for the 18th time by the Merano Wein Festival to appear in the Centum section, reserved for Italy’s 100 best wines.

This summarises the recognition we have received in Italy; all that remains now is for us to await the ratings in the international guides.

2011 was a very satisfying year, and we can confidently look to the future with tremendous enthusiasm.

Thanks to all those who have been by our side and who give us, year after year, the impetus to keep getting better and better.

È il prototipo del grande vino, esempio di perfetta interazio-ne della mano dell’uomo con un territorio vocato. Tenuta di gran fascino questa dei Guerrieri Gonzaga, sito enoico per eccellenza, la storia stessa del vino trentino. Deputato alla vite già prima dell’anno mille. Con il marchese carlo e suo figlio Anselmo decisi a rinnovare nella tradizione, a produrre solo vini rossi, esclusivi come suggerisce la bel-lezza dei loro curatissimi vigneti, situati tra le insenature dell’Adige e i pendii che dalla cantina portano ai boschi sovrastanti. Il San Leonardo è una certezza. Sempre. È un mito della vitivinicoltura tra le Doloniti. Riesce a fondere toni me-diterranei con lo slancio delle vette più alte. E lo fa con l’autorevolezza maturata in anni di cure attente, soprattutto in campagna. La vendemmia 2006 era stata eccellente e la conferma viene dall’assaggio: potente nella sua indole complessa, con una ricchezza aromatica rinomata su ricordi speziati e balsamici, integro nella sua struttura, dai tannini vellutati e levigati, a garantire lo sviluppo futuro. Gran bel vino. Come sempre. Sulla sua scia il Villa Gresti, merlot a dominarne classe e spendida raffinatezza. Coinvolgente nella sua giovialità il Terre.

It is the prototype for great wine, an example of perfect interac-tion between the hand of Man and a welcoming terroir. The Guerrieri Gonzaga’s estate is fascinating, a wine site par excel-lence, encapsulating the very history of wine from the Trentino region. It is an area that has been given over to winemaking since before the year 1000. Marquis Carlo and his son Anselmo are committed to innovating within tradition and to producing only red wines, which are as exclusive as you would imagine based on the beauty of their perfectly tended vineyards, situated between the inlets of the River Adige and the slopes that lead up from the winery to the woodlands above.San Leonardo is a certainty. Always. It is a legend of viticulture, set against the backdrop of the Dolomites. It succeeds in fusing Mediterranean tones with the surge of the highest peaks; and it does so with the authoritativeness accumulated over years of painstaking attention to detail, particularly in the vineyards. The 2006 harvest was excellent and the proof is in the tasting: potent in its complex nature, with an aromatic richness based on spicy, balsamic notes, it is intact in its structure, with velvety, polished tannins, thereby guaranteeing its future development. Nella loro incantevole proprietà, una delle più belle tenute agricole d’Italia, il Marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga e il figlio Anselmo producono uno dei più grandi rossi italiani di taglio bordolese, il San Leonardo, già protagonista della “Renaissance” enologica trentina tra gli anni Ottanta e Novanta. Ogni anno la sua personalità non manca mai di affascinare per eleganza e compiutezza.

On their enchanting estate – one of the most beautiful in all of Italy – Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga and his son Anselmo produce one of the finest Italian Bordeaux-blend red wines, called San Leonardo, which was the leading light of the renaissance of winemaking in the Trentino in the 1980s and ‘90s. Every year, its personality never fails to charm with its elegance and completeness.

VILLA GRESTI 2006 – 5 bottles – 18/20Balsamic freshness and inviting grassy hints on the nose, ac-companied by elegant, spicy notes; fine and spacious tannins, diffusive, generous and graceful; fresh, dynamic, convincing middle and finish.

SAN LEONARDO 2006 – 4 bottles – 17.5/20Brightly coloured, sweet and spicy tone of delicate, non-invasive oak; measured, herbaceous edge; more centred, focused palate; delicious, dense, ripe tannins; good fleshiness, remarkable verve; impeccable, well-balanced, prolonged finish.

TERRE DI SAN LEONARDO 2008 – 4 bottles – 16.5/20Attractive nose, sweet and mature, succulent palate, good fruit, invigorating, spacious, coherent.

GUIDA SLOW WINE 2012

VITA: Negli anni Sessanta il giovane marchese Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, conclusi gli studi enologici in Svizzera, va a fare pratica in Toscana presso l’artigianale cantina dell’amico marchese Incisa della Rocchetta, elaborando quello che diverrà uno dei vini più famosi del mondo. Ri-mane affascinato dalle potenzialità dell’uvaggio bordolese e, ritornato alla tenuta di famiglia, decide di investire su questi vitigni. Nasce così il vino trentino simbolo di eleganza e longevità: il San Leonardo.

VIGNE: Gli ordinati vigneti sono posti nei Campi Sarni, paralleli alla riva sinistra del fiume Adige; circondano la dimora in stile liberty, teatro di importanti avvenimenti storici . Gli allevamenti a guyot godono quotidianamente dell’Ora del Garda, vento temperato che proviene da sud-ovest. Un grande bosco affianca la vigna sul lato collinare, fungendo da scudo mitigante e protettivo.

VINI: nei vini del marchese Gonzaga quello che impressio-na è la raffinatezza e la costanza dello stile, inalterato anche ora che le etichette- rispetto all’originario unico vino –sono diventate tre.Un’eleganza che in qualche modo rispecchia il luogo e le persone (il Marchese Carlo e il figlio Anselmo, che da tempo affianca il padre in azienda).Grande vino il San Leonardo 2006, impressiona per la complessità olfattiva – sottili note vegetali e un’infinità di sfumature di frutta, fiori e spezie – e per quella modalità di incedere sul palato, sussurrato e felpato eppure profondo, ficcante e appagante. Ne ricalcano lo stile tanto il Villa Gresti 2006 pieno e compiuto, con una ricca polposità e una raffinata trama tannica, quanto il più giovane Terre di San Leonardo 2008, appena leggero e meno incisivo al gusto.

SLOW WINE GUIDE 2012

LIFE: In the 1970s, the young Marquis Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, having completed his winemaking studies in Swit-zerland, headed off to put what he had learned into practice in Tuscany at the artisanal winery of his friend Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta, developing what would go on to become one of the most famous wines in the world. He was fascinated by the potential of the Bordeaux blend and, returning to the family’s estate, he decided to invest in these grape varieties. This was the genesis of the Trentino wine that embodies elegance and longevity: San Leonardo.

VINEYARDS: The well-ordered vineyards are located in the Campi Sarni, parallel to the left bank of the River Adige, surrounding the art nouveau residence – the site of important historical events. The Guyot-trained vines benefit daily from the Ora del Garda, a temperate wind that blows from the south-west. A large woodland flanks the vineyard on the hilly side, serving as a protective, mitigating shield.

WINES: What impresses us the most about Marquis Gonzaga’s wines is the refinement and consistency of the style, which has remained intact even though the winery now produces three different wines rather than just the original single wine. It is a form of elegance that somehow reflects the place and the people involved (Marquis Carlo and his son Anselmo, who has been shadowing his father at the winery for some time).San Leonardo 2006 is a great wine, striking in terms of its olfactory complexity – subtle vegetal notes and a plethora of nuances of fruit, flowers and spices – and in terms of the way in which it moves onto the palate, whispered and plush yet also profound, thrusting and satisfying. Its style is echoed both by the rounded, accomplished Villa Gresti 2006, with its rich fleshiness and sophisticated tannic texture, and by the younger Terre di San Leonardo 2008, which is only ever so slightly lighter and less assertive on the palate.

AIS DUEMILAVINI 2012

In un mondo dove tutto è sempre più determinato, sapere che esistono poche ma risolute certezze, conforta e dà sicurezza. Il San Leonardo è e rimane un approdo sicuro, quell’amico che non ti tradisce mai, a cui rivolgersi con la tranquillità di trovarlo sempre lì, disponibile, affidabile e buono. E non solo, ha una famiglia dove tutti sono di rara bontà. Il Villa Gresti, eccezionale e fidato. Un sorso diverso ma sempre di gran classe e pregio. Poi il piccolo di casa, il Terre di san Leonardo, più snello e disimpegnato, ma che suadenza! Non può che esserne orgoglioso papà Carlo. I primi due, assenti l’anno scorso, hanno beneficiato del blocco del turnover dei millesimi. I marchesi Carlo e Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga hanno scelto questa opzione per consentire ai vini una maggior stabilizzazione e un miglior equilibro. Ci siamo adeguati alla decisione in attesa della com-parsa in scena della compagnia di attori: spettacolo straordinario. Non avevamo dubbi.

AIS DUEMILAVINI 2012

In a world where everything is increasingly well-defined, knowing that there are a few, decisive certainties, provides us with comfort and a sense of security. San Leonardo is, and remains, a safe landing place, that friend who would never betray you, the one to whom you can turn safe in the knowledge that he will be there for you, available, reliable and on your side. Moreover, San Leonardo has a family that are an unusually benevolent bunch: Villa Gresti, exceptional and dependable – every sip different but always classy and worthwhile; and then there is the youngest member of the flock, Terre di San Leonardo, lean and carefree, but oh how persuasive! Carlo cannot help but be a proud father. The first two, missing from last year’s line-up, benefitted from the block in the turnover of the vintages. Marquises Carlo and Anselmo Guerrieri Gonzaga elected to go down this route in order to allow the wines to achieve greater stability and balance. We got to grips with their decision as we awaited the appearance of the company of players, who were sure to provide us with an extraordinary spectacle.

È arrivato un grande San Leonardo, il 2006 che si è fatto attendere un po’, ma ora abbiamo capito il perché. Siamo però sorpresi dal fatto che il Villa Gresti 2006, che ufficialmente è la seconda etichetta dell’azienda, si stia sempre più avvicinando alla pri-ma. Questa è la notizia bella. Quella brutta? È che anche il prezzo si avvicina.Il miglior San Leonardo della storia della tenuta? Potrebbe essere questo, ma il 2007 è in agguato e molto minaccioso.

It’s that the price is getting closer, too.The best San Leonardo in the history of the winery? It might just be, but the 2007 is lying in wait, threatening.
