EDUCATION WEEK 2019

Hernani Public School enjoyed a week of celebration for Education Week 2019.

Our community breakfast on Monday 5th August was a lovely way to commence this special week. All students appreciated the opportunity to perform their line dance for our visitors and parents.

The “Beach Safety” presentation by Alistair Lane was an interesting learning experience for students and our Kindergarten Transition children.

Our second Sporting Schools Golf session with Brandon Connor from the Coffs Harbour Golf Club was a great way to conclude our Monday.

The highlight for students was our “Education on Show” performance at Bellingen High School on Wednesday 7th August. This was an important opportunity for students to view live performances by students from schools in the Bellinger Dorrigo Learning Community, as well as the chance to perform our Line Dance item in front of a very large crowd. I wish to thank all parents for their support in attending this event and helping to ensure a memorable evening for all.

Student Reflections upon “Education On Show”

I liked the ‘Three Little Pigs Blues’. Doing the line dance, I felt happy. By Charlotte I liked the string orchestra and I liked the Three Little Pigs. I liked doing the line dance because it was fun. Playing guitars was the best. By Seth I liked the skipping. I felt nervous before we did our line dance but I was happy and had fun doing our line dance. I was very tired because singing ‘This is Me’ was a long rehearsal. By Molly The line dance was my favourite dance. I liked the skipping, I liked it too, because it was a fun song. It was exciting seeing Sandy there and I was really happy to see Goompar there. It was a fun day. By Cody. I liked the song ‘Uptown Funkywup’ and I liked the song ‘Sing a Rainbow’ and I loved our line dance! Education on Show was excellent. I had an amazing time. On Wednesday 7th August Hernani Public School went to Education on Show at Bellingen High School to perform a line dance. All Hernani school’s students got together to perform a line dance ‘Our World’. We were helped by Fiona, who taught all the kids the line dance to a song by Chris Janson. I felt happy doing the line dance, it was so much fun! I liked all the dances but the BEST was ours! When I was in the audience it was so cool to watch all the other performers. The schools were Dorrigo, Orama, Urunga, Dundurrabin, Bellingen, Repton, Raleigh and Hernani Public School. They were all very good. I LOVED THEM ALL!!! By Beau Thank you notes from our students:

PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE

Students and staff have commenced their 10 week challenge were we are recording our daily activity. This is a fun way to ensure we all aim to live a healthy, active lifestyle. During the past week students have been enjoying their daily “Fluffy Hockey” games and are improving their skills whilst having great fun! P&C MEETING Everyone welcome to attend our next P&C Meeting on Monday 19th August at 9:00am. Agenda items include:- 2019 Presentation Evening, EV, School storage idea and Excursion - ‘Picasso Cow’ and Sporting Schools Golf. FRESH FOR KIDS

Parents may be wondering where the new colourful stamping pens that their children are bringing home have come from?

Students have been enjoying tasting new vegetables and fruit each day as we encourage and reward healthy eating with this initiative.

NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2019

Schools across Australia will focus on the fun of science in National Science Week with a particular emphasis on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. We have watched the original landing and are preparing a moon diorama for display in this year’s Dorrigo Show. We will also be looking at fun facts about the moon and our solar system. In addition we will write some space/moon poetry and a story about a moon trip. A lot of science fun for all this week!! BOOK WEEK

This year the theme will be ‘Reading is My Secret Power’. The children will be able to dress up as their favourite book character and will draw a picture of themselves with a written description of their character. FRIDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER 2019

We have rescheduled our Crazy Hair day due to the unsuitable weather on Friday 9th August.

Students and staff will now be participating in Crazy Hair day on the last Friday of Term 3. A fun day wearing mufti clothing and ‘Crazy Hair’. Don’t forget to bring a gold coin for donation to support this Cystic Fibrosis Community Care initiative.

COMMUNITY NEWS Camp Creative Scholarships Now Open The 2020 Camp Creative scholarship program is now open for kids and teens aged five to eighteen, living in the Coffs City, Nambucca and Bellingen Shires. The scholarships offer an opportunity to participate in a week of fun learning in the creative and performing arts. They’ll get five full days of creativity across a range of course options, including music, visual art, singing, drama, dance, craft and more! Camp Creative runs January 13 -17 2020 in the beautiful town of Bellingen. There are over eighty-two courses, with thirteen just for kids and teens, and many adult courses open to teens aged 14+. Campers can develop their painting skills, play guitar or woodwind, discover their inner actor, release their singing voice, shimmy in a Bollywood dance or get hands on with a hammer and chisel - and so much more! Scholarship recipients will receive a full day youth course. This includes entry to a week of free concerts and events, with a highlight performance by internationally acclaimed concert pianist David Helfgott. Some courses have some additional costs for materials, which are not included in the scholarship. Applications close 5.00 pm, Friday 23 August 2019.
