Griffith ANZAC Day Service 2017 All students are invited to march and attend the Griffith ANZAC Day Service on Monday the 25th of April. Staff and our school captains will meet students at 10.15am in the area outside the Griffith Art Gallery (pink building in Banna Avenue). Students must be dressed in their summer school uniform, including black shoes and navy socks. They should also bring their school hats. It is important to attend this event as we are honouring soldiers who have represented and fought for Australia to be the safe and free country that it is today. Following the march and ceremony in town students are once again invited to visit the Griffith Cemetery and place flowers provided on ex-servicemen and women’s graves (1007 in total). These graves are marked with little white crosses. The organiser of this activity, Mrs Marg Tucker, has also requested donations of flowers if possible. Our school ANZAC ceremony will be held on Friday 28th April. All parents are welcome to attend the ceremony held at the flagpole where we will meet at 10.30am. K to 2 Fun Run

Phew! What an amazing day! Did you know that Griffith Public School has fantastic runners? On Friday 31st March, the Infants participated in the K-2 Fun Run at the Community Gardens. All students ran their fastest and did their very best. They had to run over hills, through long itchy grass and sprint towards the finishing line whilst listening to groovy music. Afterwards all students were rewarded with cool Zooper Doopers and a sausage sizzle. A big thank you to all the parents who came to watch and support the students!

Years 3-6 Cross Country What a wonderful day it was at Lake Wyangan to see all the house flags, coloured tarps and all the students in their green, red, yellow and blue costumes. The weather was amazing and the scene was set for our annual 3-6 Cross Country Carnival. Congratulations to all the students who completed their age race and students that received 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed ribbons. We would like to say thank you to Mr Date, teachers, staff and P&C who organised the 2017 Cross Country. We look forward to next term as our age champions, winning house and G.P.S Cross Country team will be announced. Written by Jet Smith and Patu Tora

Community Transition to School Program As part of the Early Action for Success initiative, Griffith Public School runs a Community Transition to School Program. We aim to work with our parents and local community to provide support and knowledge about early childhood services as well as strengthening parent and community ties and provide early learning for children. If you have a child who is starting school next year, please contact the school office and let us know. This will help us with our planning and allow us to work with you to give your child the very best start to school.

Touch Football Trials Congratulations to Wilson Nabete who was successfully chosen in the Boys Griffith Touch Football Team. Wilson will now travel to Albury next term to compete among the best touch football players in the Riverina. Wilson's coach Mr Noad (GEPS) has commended Wilson on being a wonderful ambassador for his school and showing great sportsmanship throughout the trial. We wish Wilson all the best for his upcoming training schedule and Riverina trials next term.

Stage 3 Major Excursion This year, Stage 3 will be travelling to Canberra in Term 4 as their major excursion. Students will be visiting places such as Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and Questacon just to name a few. An expression of interest note requesting a $50 non-refundable deposit was sent home last week. Notes and the $50 non-refundable deposit are due by the end of this term, (Term 1), to secure a place on the excursion. As we need to confirm bookings, including number of students attending to calculate the final cost, late deposits will not be accepted. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Mrs Lemon as soon as possible. Stewart House Donation Drive 2017 Envelopes for the Stewart House Donation Drive were sent home a few weeks ago. Please return your envelopes by the end of this week. Any donation is greatly appreciated and could win you a prize!

Canteen News Thank you to last week’s helper, Maria. Chicken Burger and Salad $4.50 Chicken Tender Wrap $4.00 Watermelon Slice .20c Our canteen offers a range of fresh and healthy lunch options to suit all our students; however, the tuckshop is always tempting but not a good start to the day!
