It was shortly after that the school board hired a new manager (Cookie), and, not yet knowing her, I asked the Lord to give me a clear sign whether I should continue to support the school. As I walked in, the hall was covered in artwork of ladybugs. Anyone who knows me well, knows I love ladybirds and always wore two tiny pins with them on, calling them Milly and Tilly. I was a teacher myself! Around our town I am remembered as the ladybug lady. I even had reward stickers with them on! Eight years later, be assured of my ongoing prayer support.

UPDATE FROMTHE MANAGING DIRECTORApril is a month of new beginnings – the time when everything comes alive and blossoms. In many ways, that’s how I feel. After a long, hard winter – home-bound with a cast and large metal device on my right arm, I am finally back at school – and while not completely good as new, certainly on my way. I want to thank those of you who faithfully prayed for me each day – both for my physi-cal recovery and for my ability to endure and not entirely go crazy. I felt those prayers each day, and our own students sent me lovely cards, videos and even a care package to let me know that I was missed. It doesn’t get better than that. The Lord has filled the gaps and taken good care of our school over the last four months. Our pedagogic manager, Yoel, filled in for me on so many occasions, meeting with visitors and taking over so much of the school management – even organizing a special “work day” in which parents, students and teachers devot-ed a day to clean, repair and overall enhance the school (see photos below). I am truly grateful to him and to all of our teachers who did so much during my absence especially – not to mention our office administrator Aviya who worked doubly hard to type out my responses for me. The Lord has truly supplied and made sure there was no lack. Thanks again for your faithful support, prayers and encouragement. With every blessing,Cookie Schwaeber-IssanManaging Director, MHT

Who said kids don’t like to work?Just before the Purim holiday, we organized a work day to spruce up the school, asking for volunteers among students, parents and teachers. As you can see, everyone pitched in and had a great time doing it. The school has never looked better and the students are already looking forward to the next time!

We so much appreciate your feedback! Please keep it coming as it really encourages us. Thank [email protected]

SO MUCH MORE THAN ABC’S We believe that in addition to teaching academic subjects, a good school should offer activities which teach students how to work as a team, how to think outside the box and give them practical but challenging and interesting skills which will stay with them all their lives. At Makor HaTikvah, we offer a well-rounded variety of these activities including: robotics, sewing, techniques and alterations, jewelry making, chess team, music lessons and putting together a worship team band. Every student gets to choose what interests them and pursue one of the above. We think a picture is worth a thousand words.

If you are interested in playing a role in this exciting expansion, please let us know. Our Attic Space

MANY THANKSEach year, we are blessed by donations from Israel Today and Christian Friends of Israel, both of who sponsor our annual Purim Party and also treat the students to goodie bags. We are grateful for their contribution and partnership with us.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP!Without your continued help with these special funds and projects, we would not be able to meet the needs of our School.

JOSEPH RESERVE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDThis fund has made it possible for financially needy students to attend our school each year. There are students whose families simply don’t have the resources to pay their child’s tuition. Adopting a student is one way to help make sure that no one is turned away for lack of finances. Please pray about helping these needy students.

Cultural Development Fund (School Trips)We need help supplementing transportation for field trips. An average bus charge is anywhere from 600 NIS (within Jerusalem) and as expensive as 2,000 NIS (for long distances). Parents already pay for the trips, but adding the bus fare would make many trips prohibitive. If you’d like to sponsor the transportation for one trip, please designate your gift for that purpose.
