All the buildings interfacing the park turn, in fact, their rear faade to it, creating a "broken" faade. The park borders are not dened, thus turning it to be the back yard of the city center. The purpose of this plan was, therefore, to turn the park, from a backyard into a central inner court at the heart of the city. The analysis referred to all the buildings around the park as if they were built to dene it - turning over the actual situation. Pursuant to the new context created among the buildings, an entire new surface emerged, dening new borders to the site. For the design process, the method of super posi- tion was used in two techniques: 3d superposition- an extrusion of the layers in three different ways to create three different organiza- tional situations: A transparent system, an opaque wall system and a mass system. These three systems were then imposed on the site, with each one representing a specic element in the overall layout, in an attempt to create a harmonious sum. " . The city of Bene Beraq is a focal point for Israels Orthodox Jewish community, and is the only example of it living in large numbers inside an urban metropolitan. Bene Beraq represents an island of seclusion and introspection, intended only for its residents and not for attracting outsiders. The citys architecture, and mainly its public spaces, is an image of the Orthodox Jewish culture, a culture that almost entirely neglects the public and personal space in favor of the spiritual space. During weekdays, Bene Beraq is dynamic and bustling with activity. On Shabbat, the movement ceases, and the public space becomes a residential space. Here I suggest a new setting for the public space at the heart of the city. A setting that respects the local culture, addresses the communitys wish for seclusion and the duality of weekdays versus Shabbat, achieving all that without change and physical separation. . , , . . , , . Its all a matter of listening. Correct architectural planning comes from a listening perspective. Listening to the needs of man, society, culture, and the space we are working with. The minute we listen and understand these needs, we can translate them into a creative architectural design; one that bears the personal signature of the architect, while considering the past, adjusting to the present, and planning for the future. - , " " : NOA BRIK The Yarkon as Connector Azrieli School of Architecture, Tel-Aviv University Instructors: Architect Hillel Schocken JUDGING COMMITTEE Chairman: Arch.
