- Modal verbs ไม่มีรูปสรรพนามบุรุษที่ 3 (ที่เติมs)

(NOT He cans meet you tomorrow.)

- Modal verbs ไม่เติม ”ing หรือ -ed

(NOT I,m sorry I canned not meet you yesterday.)

- Modal verbs ใช้ในรูปผกผันในประโยคค าถาม เช่น verb to be

“ การตั้งค าถามใช้ Modal verb น าหน้าประธานในประโยค ส่วนประโยค

ปฏิเสธให้ใส่ not ตามหลัง modal verb ได้ทันที (ในภาษาพูดและการเขียนแบบไม่

เป็นทางการ มักจะเขียนในรูปตัวย่อ ”n’t).

Certainty and uncertainty (ความแน่นอนและไม่แน่นอน)

“ ค าต่อไปนี้แสดงถึงความเป็นไปได้ที่เรียงล าดับจากมากไปน้อย

100% certainty (แน่นอน) will

95%-100% deduction (การลดลง) must, can’t

80% expectation (คาดหวัง) should

- ในการพูดแบบทั่วไป สามารถใช้ have got to แทนที่ have to.

- ใช้ must เมื่อผู้พูดต้องการแสดงความส าคัญของสิ่งที่พูด

You really must stop working so hard and try to relax.

You must be here by 8.00, or the bus will leave without you.

ข้อสังเกต ในการใช้ must ไม่ต้องมี to มาตามท้าย.

“ ในประโยคปฏิเสธ mustn’t และ don’t have to ต่างมีความหมายที่

ต่างกัน

- ใช้ mustn’t ในสถานการณ์ที่ต้องห้าม (prohibited/forbidden)

You mustn’t cross the road when the red light is showing.

- ใช้ don’t have to ในสถานการณ์ที่ไม่มีความจ าเป็น

You don’t have to turn to the central heating. It’s automatic.
