COULD• Es el pasado de can.

When I was young, I could run very fast.

• Se utiliza también para preguntar cortesmente.Could/Can I use the telephone?

• También se utilizar para formar el condicional, expresando así una situación hipotética.We could study together, if you want.If I had money, I could buy a new car.

MUST

• Indica obligación. Sólo se suele utilizar en presente.

You must study everyday.

She must go to the doctor.

• También se utiliza para indicar probabilidad o suposición.

The computer doesn’t work. It must be broken.

She is serious. She must be angry.

MUSN’T

• Indica prohibición.

You musn’t smoke here.

You musn’t drive without a licence.

HAVE TO

• Se utiliza para indicar obligación (más fuerte que must) impuesta por normas, leyes…

You have to be at 8 o’clock in the office.

• También se utiliza como sustituto de must, para tiempos verbales distintos del presente.

Before, we had to help our mothers a lot.

I will have to study if I want to pass the exam.

SHOULD

• Se utilizan para dar opinión o consejo.

You should drive more carefully.

You shouldn’t spend all your money.
