And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape

of a human being); then We told the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", and they prostrated themselves, except Iblîs (Satan), he refused to be of those who prostrated themselves. (11) (Allâh) said: "What prevented you (O Iblîs) that you did not prostrate

yourself, when I commanded you?" Iblîs said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." (12) (Allâh) said: "(O Iblîs) get down from

this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced." (13) (Iblîs) said: "Allow me respite till the Day they are raised

up (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." (14) (Allâh) said: "You are of those respited." (15) (Iblîs) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human

beings) on Your Straight Path (16) Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)." (17) (Allâh) said (to Iblîs) "Get out from this

(Paradise) disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all.

Here is the story of iblees. Allah(هلالج لج) created Adam from earth, angels from light and iblees from fire. This is not the choice of anyone how they are created. Allah (هلالج لج) commanded the angels and the Jinn to prostrate to Adam i.e. fire and light to prostrate to earth. All the angels prostrated to Adam except for Shaitaan. Allah (هلالج لج) asked Iblees why did you not prostrate. This was the first sin for iblees to refuse one prostration that Allah(هلالج لج) commanded him. Iblees did not look at it as a command. Allah (هلالج لج) tells iblees it was my command so why did you refuse my command ? Iblees replied that I am better than him because I am created by fire and Adam is created from fire. Iblees judged by his mind over the command of Allah(هلالج لج). This statement of Iblees is Takabur i.e. arrogance. The Kibr was always in the heart of iblees but it was only exposed as arrogance when he was asked

to prostrate to Adam. Kibr is in the heart and when it becomes action then it is called takabur and the person is called Mutakabir. Allah (هلالج لج) knew what was in the heart of Iblees and he brought about a situation that exposed the arrogance of Iblees. Allah(هلالج لج) knew that iblees was not worthy of the position with angels. Arrogance is the first sin of Iblees. The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said no person will enter Paradise if they have an atom of Kibr. The companions said we love to wear nice things. The Prophet .replied that arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking down on people (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) Allah(هلالج لج) told Iblees to come down and he will be disgraced. Iblees asked Allah (هلالج لج) for respite till the day of judgment so he will mislead all of mankind. Takabur is not accepted from any creation be it angels, jinn or human kind. It is not suitable for the humans to have arrogance as our origin is from clay. There is no reason for anyone to be arrogant. The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said all the arrogant people will be gather on the day of judgement as ants who will be trampled upon by people. We have name of Allah (هلالج لج)Al Mutakabir so Mutakabir is a praised attribute for Allah(هلالج لج).

Al Mutakabir – Meaning in Language. In the language Al Kibr means:

1. Greatness and majesty 2. Kingdom 3. Does not listen or follow anyone. Does not submit/ Rejecting

• Due to the above meaning it is understood that no one but Allah (هلالج لج) can have the

attribute. Al Takabur is praise worthy for Allah (هلالج لج) only

• Allah(هلالج لج) is Mutakabir in all his names and attributes and all his actions. Allah (هلالج لج) is above all his creation. Everyone else compared to Allah is very tiny and non-existent.

• Allah is Mutakabir above all his creation. He has a kingdom which is never removed, exchanged or replaced. None of the kings of the duniya can have kibr because their kingdom can be replaced.

• We can understand this from the story of firoun who was arrogant due to his power. He was drowned in the same river where Musa as a baby was saved. Allah (هلالج لج) preserved the body of Firoun so it can be seen by everyone what is the result of arrogance. Qarun

was also an example who was arrogant due to his wealth and he meet with a fate where he sank into the earth.

• Another example is that of Zulkernain. Allah(هلالج لج) gave him power and Zulkernain did not misuse the power. He was a just ruler.

• It is suitable for Allah(هلالج لج) to be Mutakabir because he has all the dominion and in his hand, is all the power. As for humans when they are Mutakabir they oppress people.

• Allah(هلالج لج) is Mutakabir (above) from being injust to anyone in his dominion. Allah (هلالج لج) does not oppress any of his creation. All of Allah’s(هلالج لج) actions are between favour and fairness. Allah (هلالج لج) does not stop the provision from the humans who insult Allah (هلالج لج) by attributing wives and sons to him.

• Allah(هلالج لج) is Mutakabir from sleep i.e. he is above sleep as he does not need to sleep. Allah is so powerful and great that he does not need to sleep.

• Allah(هلالج لج) is Mutakabir from any faults, He is above any faults, vain talking or playing.

• Allah(هلالج لج) is Mutakabir to follow the desires of anyone. No one can change what Allah .prescribes and ordained. No one can influence Allah (هلالج لج)

What makes a human being arrogant ?

1. When human being thinks he is deserving of the majesty. 2. When a person knows Allah (هلالج لج)is Al Mutakabir then he cannot be arrogant. 3. Any human being who is arrogant is exaggerating and its does not suit him to wear

this crown.

Hadith of the Prophet Allah(هلالج لج) says his gown is majesrty and greatness and anyone who wears it will be punished by Allah(هلالج لج).

صلى هللا ع عز وجل الكبریاء ردائي والعظمة إزاري فمن نازعني واحدا منھم " لیھ وسلم قال رسول هللا ا قال هللا "قذفتھ في النار

(The Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) said: Allah Most High says: Pride is my cloak and majesty is my lower garment, and I shall throw him who view with me regarding one of them into Hell.) -

Sunan Abi Dawud 4090, Authenticated by Al Albani as Sahih What do we need to do?

1. We need to be humble in front of Allah(هلالج لج). o When commands comes to us we need to accept it o We need to be an obedient slave of Allah(هلالج لج) o When a decree comes we should not think our mind is better than the

decree. 2. Be humble to each other

o Even if we have money or power we have to be humble with people. o When Umar R.A came to open the gates of Bait al maqdus, his head was

down in humility. o

3. The origin of all disobedience and rebelliousness is arrogance You cannot hide arrogance and Allah(هلالج لج) will expose Kibr through situations.
