AIESEC UA proudly presents to you: "NatCo 2013"!

Dear delegates, welcome to NatCO 2013!

NatCo the last conference of the National Conference Cycle. A great way for the old EB’s to finish their year of hard work with a bang! And for the new EB elects NatCo is the national event where the road for another unforgettable year of AIESEC starts. NatCo is depicted this year by a diamond logo. Why a diamond, you ask? It represents our precious delegates who are diamonds in the rough with huge potential. The purpose of NatCo is to sculpt the leaders of the coming AIESEC year and by organizing this conference we hope to bring you the perfect medium to hone your leadership skills. This should enable the delegates to reflect and shine like a diamond. Shine. Be Bright. BE A LEADER! When? 26th-28th of April 2013, check in @ 15:30 Where? Den Brink

The venue

For the location, AIESEC UA chose “De Brink” at Herentals. De Brink is a Hopper Youth Stay of Scouts and Guides Flanders. The whole complex is 40 acres large and the main building (bedrooms) is modernly equipped. It is surrounded by a wooded landscape of The Kempen, so there the opportunity exists to organize several activities outdoors. Location costs €75 per person for Friday until Sunday. All meals and a four o’clock break are included and provided by the local staff. Contact information: De Brink, Bosbergen 1, 2200 Herentals +32 (0)14 21 15 33 [email protected]

Stay on the ring around Herentals to the end (= stretched roundabout). Then take the direction of Kasterlee. Cross the railway and after about 600m turn left (towards cemetery). There you have a signpost pointing to the Brink. Follow the road for about 800m along the railway. By Public transport De Brink is about 3 kilometers from NMBS station Herentals and the center of Herentals. You can take bus 305 Herentals – Turnhout. This will take you to the cemetery. The Champagne cantus

The Champagne Cantus is one of the AIESEC UA classics and this

year, we wanted to bring the experience of an authentic, Flemish

student tradition to NatCo!

A cantus is an event where students come

together to sing traditional Dutch, Latin, English,

French and German songs (like "What shall we do

with the drunken sailor?" or "My Bonnie"), which

are written down in a “Codex”, all while drinking

an (non-)alcoholic beverage. For this cantus, the

general drink will be champagne. You can drink as

much champagne as you would like for the entire

duration of the cantus. Never been to a cantus?

Don't worry! We'll hand out a booklet containing

all songs that we are going to sing that evening.

A cantus is a great way to bond with all the LC’s present at the

conference and is a tradition that goes back more than 100 years

with songs that were written down in the Middle Ages still sung at

cantusses today!

But beware; a cantus isn’t like a regular party! You have to follow

some traditional rules and have to stick to these rules for the

entire cantus. Some of the basic rules will be explained here and

additionally the cantus booklet will contain all rules for the

evening.

Page 9: Nat Co Booklet

NatCo 2013 9

First and foremost: champagne is a holy drink and you must treat

it with respect! It is not allowed to spill it, pour it away or throw it

around!

A cantus is always presided by a senior (i.e. the person

responsible for keeping order) and a cantor (i.e. the person who

chooses which songs will be sung). During the cantus, some old

formal rules, mainly in Latin, are used. Here’s some vocabulary to

get you started:

“Silentium” means silence. When this is said, everybody must

immediately be silent and listen to the senior. If you aren’t

silenced, you will be punished! The senior can also use a

hammer to make his point more clear.

“Corona” is everyone who participates in the cantus. This

word can be used in a variety of ways, for example: when the

cantor says that the left corona sings the first strophe, only

the people at the left are allowed to sing the first strophe.

“Senior, peto verbum”: It is not allowed to talk directly to the

senior. You always ask the “right to speak” by saying “senior,

peto verbum”. He then replies by “Habes” or “Non Habes”.

“Habes” means you have the right to speak, “non habes”

means you aren’t allowed to say something and have to sit

down again.

Also, remember to knock on the table instead of applauding!

NEVER applaud at a cantus!

Everything (including the rules provided here) will be explained

before we start, so don’t worry if this sounds confusing or difficult.

A cantus: an event full of tradition and singing, a great way to

meet new people and bond with other LC’s. It’s an event you can’t

miss!

After the traditional Champagne Cantus we will continue to party and this is your time to shine! During this night you get to impersonate the celebrity you consider the brightest diamond! So dress up and become Obama, Beyoncé, David Beckham or Mila Kunis for the night. Shine bright like a diamond and BE FAMOUS! Your very own talented Bob and Anthony will be playing the greatest songs. If there are any songs you just can’t miss at a party, don’t hesitate to let us know through the form on the NatCo website!

VP Projects - Nicolas Van Spillbeeck I am a Master student in Commercial Engineering who enjoys music, running and rollercoasters. I have a passion for international affairs, football and going abroad. As this is my last project as VP PM for this term, I’m dedicated to make NatCo 2013 a blast! Logistics - Joris Van Geet I'm a graduate student in commercial engineering and I like photography, music and drinking a good glass of wine. Also looking forward to making this an epic NatCo 2013!
