Always the most interesting things comes first. And those are the materials of our NEu Tymes Vol.46 including architecture of hotel, a contemporary view "into the light",

events for summer 2014 more specificaly about movies by 8th AISFF Psarokokalo around Greece, Athens and Aegean sea islands and Uber-Bodies, an art event about the spirits of Ydra island.. Strong personalities on their piece of work as dance or music entertainment are some of our issue ingredients too. Here comes NEu Tymes Vol.46 interacting with the world like beacon on a hard sailor's day rescueing his boat in Greek seas. Remember that the only thing that counts for sure is your love. When you share it a NEu Tymes is born for you and your friends or family, so, let everybody know what you've been reading and what fresh things or thoughts are all about.

Into the Light Hotel by A31Perfectly attuned to the facilitators’ intentions to generate an exhibition that will enhance the visitor’s stimuli through experiential events and activities, the project "Into the Light Hotel" was created in order to promote a contemporary though timeless architectural approach of an exemplary Greek hotel model.

InspirationResponding to the challenge to create a space that would bring together all that is best in a hotel which is integrated in the Greek landscape and at the same time derives from it, A31’s group of professionals focused on the Greek Light, drawing inspiration for creation and functionality.

The Experience "Into the Light Hotel" introduces the visitor to the 100% Hotel Show through a path that triggers memories linked to the way we perceive light as it effortlessly fits into all our experiences.

The art Hosted in the lobby, the imposing work of the Greek artist Apollo Glykas, is affiliated to the architectural approach of A31, since it constitutes a modern implementation of Shadow Theatre, In the premises, visitors can also admire exquisite materials and artwork (Sponsor: Zoumboulakis Galleries).

Emotions The applications of light through different perspectives and filters (modern trellises, skylights, pergola) trigger the visitor’s emotions, since surprise is being succeeded by warmth, feeling of safety and intimacy.

Reception: An urban space which introduces the visitor to the concept.

Room: A contemporary space with cement floor, white furniture and built-in bed, which could be found in a Cycladic hotel, comforting the visitor with its welcoming nature and its unpretentious feel.

Lobby: A place which allows connection with the mountainside of the mainland, fascinating through the mere lack of any pomposity.

Dining Room: A synthesis between classic and modern, allowing the harmonic conjunction of not only the elements included, but also the people for which it is intended.

Garden: Arid plants in a sand pit compose a landscape that resembles that of the Greek islands. The water element, inextricably connected with the Mediterranean landscape, couldn’t of course be absent from the scenery.

The festival is part of a project aiming to research,

promote and develop the art of filmmaking. The festival program includes screenings of short films from Greece and abroad as well as audiovisual events, masterclasses, exhibitions and live concerts. The quality of its scrennings, lectures, exhibitions it has managed to make it a reference point for cinephiles, filmmakers, professionals and new artists. Each year the activities of the festival expand, receiving more participations from different countries and getting bigger support from filmmakers and professionals. The festival aims to travel across borders in order to develop a spirit of friendship and cooperation with international festivals and filmmakers from all over the world.What made Psarokokalo

come to life was the need to watch films from all

over the world. Films we, otherwise, wouldn’t be able to have access to. That need was the motivation for organising the AISFF Psarokokalo!

KYKLOS, the organizer company of the festival Psarokokalo is an independent initiative only supported by friends who love cinema, creative sponsors and individuals who support and help us. We never had a commercial sponsor or another institution to support us financially. Through our Indiegogo platform, we thank people for their support by offering our label of traditional greek herbs, collected by hand during our past editions across Greece, cultivated by our top botanists.

Serifos was always one of my personally favorite islands! Last year’s Psarokokalo was also held in Serifos and the response was very encouraging! The people of the island have so much love for the cinema and the festival! So, this year, apart from the International Competition, we are bringing all the parallel actions of KYKLOS. The Psaroloco

Labs and the Psaroloco Media Literacy Project have already started, and will be in Serifos for the entire summer, giving kids and teenagers the chance to get familiar with the cinematic experience and to be educated though cinema. The Film Market will, also, be hosted in Serifos, this year! Furthermore, we aim at creating film archive in Serifos!

Well, this year, the entries were 4.214 from 78 different countries! Despite, all the difficulties and the problems, the fact that so many acknowledged directors, and people from all over the globe - not just Europe, know the festival and submitted their short film, is a strong motivation for us to keep doing what we do!

The most unique feeling is always on the first day of the festival. The festival, may occur once a year for a week, but the load of work before and after the festival is huge! And besides the exhausting processes and work we have to do, the premiere of each Psarokokalo and the feeling we get every time, is our reward and

our motivation to keep organizing the festival and expanding our actions!

Organizing an International Festival is definitely not easy! First of all, due to the non-profit nature of the organizing company KYKLOS, the scope of actions and the film screenings in the province and the islands, the task is very challenging! The biggest difficulty is financial, as our income is from donations and ticket earnings. We operate with interns, volunteers and creative sponsors, but there are still needs which have to be covered. Beside the economic issues, there’s the organizing obstacles. It’s very difficult to organize and synchronize all the people on such a large international festival! Furthermore, there are issues social wise. It’s interesting how the audience differs in each festival and each year. People’s point of view on short films and cinema and their education upon those matters, change through the years, and that is another challenge we have to deal with!

The exhibition addresses the transcendence of form, as this is instantiated within Hydra’s landscape and Grecian light. More often

than not, our mind perceives space and form in its own individual way. Frequently we attribute this to chance, to the incomprehensible or to the envisioned. What can be seen is not what really is and maybe that’s the way it should be. The manifestation of form is simply the critical mass of a feeling. Quoting the Finish architect and thinker Juhani Pallasmaa "form only affects our feelings through what it represents" True to this line of thought lie the sculptures of George Lappas, Saint Clair Cemin and Graham Collins, created specifically for this exhibition. Their way of organizing matter does not really differ from a system of esoteric communication. Cemin's Cherub out of mirrors and fiberglass creates a sensory link between mind and sentiment. Collin's aluminum/glass/brick temple being placed at the HSP' s back yard exudes a melancholic eroticism whereas Lappas' giant synthetic fur Sketching Crabs brings

For the 15th consecutive year Dimitrios Antonitsis curates the summer show at the Hydra School Projects. This years exhibition is titled Uber-Bodies, focusing on different takes of contemporary sculpture.

up an emancipatory discourse on matter and material (in times when a singing drag queen, Conchita Wurst, with facial hair can turn the European Song Contest into a political stage).

Form, as a manmade intervention to the essence of the already existing object (or even building) characterizes the works of Dionisis Christofilogiannis, Martha Dimitropoulou and also of Heimir Bjorgulfsson making his first appearance in Greece. Christofilogiannis 'tailors" the gate of the Sachtureion mansion with traditional lace casting his uber-handcrafted abracadabra (in Aramaic: I create as I speak). Martha Dimitropoulou addresses the dichotomy of humility versus luxury employing dried pine needles to form a crown and a chandelier. Last but not least the sculptures of Heimir Bjorgulfsson tiptoe through fractioned taxydermic balancing acts and crystal clear sentimentality.

Another section relates to the ancient Greek concept of the "ideal" in respect to human nature and the construction of the perfect form: The artist duo Lovett/Codagnone, creating sadomasochistic accesories out of glass, revive this/their relationship (absolutely obeying to Leopold von Sacher- Masoch...) Andreas Lolis, on the other hand, cheekily deceives his audience, in an attempt to conceal the true nature of his artworks: The quintisessence of the counterfeit, the marble imitating cardboard and wooden boxes/objects, harks back to Michalangelo’s rendering of the divine as something ungraspable by the human condition.

As a special treat for the 15th year anniversary of HSP, Antonitsis creates a wunderkammer with island treasures from the 50s,60s and 70s under the title Spirits of Hydra.

The school classroom that welcomes the section Spirits of Hydra, relates to the sensation of the physical) and its disembodiment. The motto here goes «out with the intangible, in with the substantial ». Christian Heidsieck, Brice Marden, Ioannis Kardamatis and Grigoris Anargirou all successfully depict the magic of Hydra with great purity. Marden, employing an olive leaf, Kardamatis using gold filaments, Anargyrou through the use of carving pine trunks and Heidsieck firing clay. They lead us to another dimension, escaping the mundane and touching the sublime. An exclamation of virtue and soul. Let it be noted here that Anargyrou knew only to carve two letters of the alphabet, his initials.

A catalog of the exhibition will be published in the form of Greek school composition book.

I met Yiota a year ago at Sadler’s Wells and she introduced me to human body. A dancer’s body is an individually expressed entity. Some of us use words to describe the world they live in, others dream of another reality, performers use their body to bridge reality to dreamland. Yiota is a talented and well promised artist who lets feelings and music move her legs, her arms, her waist, her head, making her dance a trip to latin fiestas.

For Yiota, dance education began at age five. By

the the time she was a teenager she was accepted to the State School of Dance"s preparatory department, in 1991 she graduated from the professional Dance School Rallou Manou,

Beggining in 1995, she studied flamenco under Natasa Deka for six years and later took classes and workshops in Spain & Greece with: Rafaela Carrasco, Belen Maya, Israel Galvan, Eva Yerbabuena, Mercedes Ruiz, Andres Pena, Isabel Bayon, Antonio Ruiz, Javier Lattore, Antonio el Pipa, Matilde Corral, Juana Amaya, Rafael Campallo, Pastora Galvan, Rocio Molina, Leonor Leal, Olga Pericet, Concha Jareno, and many more. 1998 through 2008 had Yiota first dancing and

then choreographing as a member of the flamenco dance group "Ronda al Alba".

Following that, she was directing and producing her own projects: Nana [2008], Viva Sevilla [2009], Zaguan [2010], AQUI [2011], AQUI version 0,7 [2012].

In these years, Yiota also participated in and performed at important festivals and venues in Greece and abroad, including the: Flamenco Festival London, Dance Festival of the Association of Greek Choreographers, Athens Video Dance Project, TapMotif, Benaki Museum, Sadler's Wells,

International Body Music Festival, Festival Musicale del Mediterraneo and she choreographed theatrical performances in Athens

She was one of the founding members and was the artistic director of the Dance school "Estrella' from 2001-2008. In 2009 she co-founded the artistic venue PLAYGROUND, in the center of Athens. In this role she has the pleasure to invite many of the renowned artists she studied with to teach workshops in Athens.

Yiota started teaching dance in 1993.

In these 20 years she has been teaching dance to all ages [from

kindergarden to ...], all groups of people and sometimes under very unconventional conditions [in 2004 she was teaching flamenco in a rehabilitation program inside women's prison in Athens!

Her discipline covers ballet, contemporary and flamenco, although the last 13 years she has been dedicated to the last one.

Her studies and her teaching experience gave her the skills to develop a method based on flamenco technique, contemporary dance and body music, that offers a comprehensive educational program to everyone who wants to become a dancer.

Since 2009 she has based her courses in PLAYGROUND. The artistic venue dedicated to percussive dance that she co-founded in the center of Athens.www.studioplayground.gr
