Tour around 100 Treasure Troves in Numazu NO.39; Numazu Tanabata Matsuri ~Star
Festival, seasonal sight of Numazu in summer~
‘Numazu Tanabata Matsuri (Star Festival),’
which is held in the shopping malls located in the
central urban area, has been one of the seasonal
sights of Numazu in summer. Each shopping mall
enlivens the festival by elaborating their events;
decorating beautiful tanabata ornaments, showing
live performances, and others. ‘Nakamise Tanabata
Matsuri’ was started in 1954 for the purpose of
making it a special feature attraction of Nakamise
shopping mall, whose 250 meter arcade is fully
decorated with colorful streamers and strips of paper
at the time of Star Festival. Visitors can enjoy
viewing streamers and strips of various colors
dangling from the arcade above the head; ranging
from ornaments decorated with a motif of each shop’s
popular topics to strips of paper which kindergarten
and elementary school children wrote their wishes on.
Many people come and enjoy these tanabata
ornaments every year. We can call this colorful scenery of Tanabata in the shopping malls
unchanged for over 60 years a special feature attraction of our city.
▪Tanabata Ornaments decorated in every color of the rainbow in Nakamise Shopping Mall can be
seen until July 7 (Tue).
Nostalgic Photos of Nakamise Star Festival
