Dear Readers Welcome to this edition of the Tradewinds Newsletter I hope you enjoyed National Senior Center Month here at OASIS and the other great senior centers around the central coast Seniors today are more active than previous generations according to the National Council on Aging I can tell you first hand that I get worn out just trying to keep up with all of you In case yoursquore looking for more activity this fall season there is plenty to do Some of you will receive this in time as a final reminder of the September 30 Orcutt Children Art Foundationrsquos Chalk Festival in Old Orcutt This is another Old Orcutt nonprofit organization with whom we hope to collaborate with again in the future Since many of these artists are creating their murals on the street OCAF can always use a few volunteers to make sure a car does not accidentally drive through a barrier Please get in touch with us if you would like to volunteer for an hour or two OASIS is collaborating with the County of SB EDD the Chamber of Commerce CET and PathPoint to put on the Santa Maria Job and Resource Fair at the Santa Maria Fairpark on October 3 from 2-4 pm There will be around 80 employers on hand looking to hire people of all ages If you are looking to supplement your retirement or know anyone looking for work please circle this date on your cal-endar Hurry and stake your claim for the 2017 Orcutt Poker Championship on October 14 The location is being kept a mystery until October 9 but it is somewhere in the Orcutt area The proceeds of this event will go to OASIS Tickets are $55 but if you are an OASIS member they are discounted to $50 when you buy them in our office You can also purchase them on our website and by entering the code ORCUTT55 the $5 discount will also be applied The tickets have a QR code that can be scanned with smart phones before the tournament This will tell you the location If you arenrsquot able to scan the ticket just give us a call and wersquoll let you know There will be many great prizes The win-ner receives a personalized 2017 Orcutt Poker Champion jacket The Nighttime Kiwanis Club has been a big supporter of our Spring Gala They are able to support us because of fundraisers like the annual Bingo Bonanza I have attended the Bingo Bonanza and it is a fun time I will see you there October 15 October 28 the Orcutt Kiwanis Club is hosting a Civic Theater buy-out of ldquoYoung Frankenstein the Musicalrdquo Perfect for celebrating Halloween The proceeds again go to OASIS And because the Civic Theatre actually had to pay licensing rights to Mel Brooks the price is $25 per ticket which includes wine Hors drsquooeuvres dessert and coffee However OASIS members only pay $20 if you buy them in our office I am thrilled to announce that our very own Jerry and Delores Luis have been chosen as honorees in the 2017 class of Celebrate Philanthropy This award honors outstanding community leaders in the Santa Maria Valley Itrsquos like a Hall of Fame for our philanthropists and I canrsquot tell you how proud I am to see these two recognized for the wonderful deeds they have done over the years The ceremony will be held on November 2 at the Country Club If you would like to attend please contact the Santa Barbara Foundation at 346-6123 right away as seating is limited Another exciting announcement to share is that the Santa Maria Noon Rotary Club selected OASIS as their ldquoCall to Actionrdquo at their Sips amp Sombreros fundraiser November 4 at the Fairpark Funds raised at this event will support OASIS and the big plans we have for the future We are so very grateful to the Rotary club for selecting us Please consider attending Tickets are $60 which includes dinner Call Jim Talbot at 614-7251 to purchase your tickets Doug

CALL CAC at 925-3010 to make your reservation These meals are made primarily from scratch Fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables are served to ensure that we influence good eating habits and provide the best nutrition possible The only canned fruits and vegetables used are pineapple mandarin oranges and tomato sauce The breads and pastas are whole grain and the rice we use is brown We are dedicated to providing healthy and good tasting foods to our clients We have quarterly menu conferences at which we take comments from our clients and use them to make improvements to the seasonal cycles If you have any input comments compliments or suggestions please give them to your staff contact so that they can bring the information to us at the next menu conference Thank you Enjoy
