Cytology findings
• Dissociated cells in loose clusters or single cells • Very clean background indicating extra-uterine
origin (probable from malignant ascites) • Indian files noted • Compatible with provided history of breast
cancer with wide metastases • Special stain for GATA-3 was performed on de-
stained Pap smear
GATA-3: Positive
Final diagnosis
• Pap smear: – Positive for malignant cells – Extra-uterine carcinoma (compatible with
history of breast cancer)
