Child maintenance wouldalso need to be paid to the parent who has thefull time care of the child. This can be dealtwith through the Child Support Agency. The

amount depends on your income and how many children you have, and also depends onthe number of overnight stays you have thechildren for.

Maisie has thewinning formulaMAISIE Hogan has shown herself to be one of theregions top young scientists.Maisie was taking part in the prestigious North WestSchools Science Competition.The competition began in September by inviting students

to write a 500 word essay on why they want to be ascientist when they grow up. From there a 12-strongshortlist was drawn up to participate in the CompetitionFinal held at the Catalyst ScienceDiscovery Centre in Widnes, Cheshire.Each nalist took it in turn to deliver a

short presentation to an expert panelof judges from scienti c, business andeducational backgrounds on why theywanted to be scientists when they wereolder, before going on to answer aseries of questions from the panel.Judges praised the high standard of

entries before selecting winners fromYear 7 and Year 8.Maisie, 13, impressed the judges to

be named the winner in the Year 8category.Maisie said: I was really shocked when my name was called, my Science teacher told our

class about the competition and I decided to enter because my dream job is to become ascientist and help people.Maisie received an iPod Touch and 250 for her school

Method

1. Place the raisins and sultanas in a small bowl and add the brandy. Cover and leave to soak for 2hours or overnight.2. Butter the bread using 115g / 4oz of the butter. Remove the crusts and cut each slice into 4triangles. Arrange the necessary amount of bread triangles in 2 layers in a buttered pint shallow ovenproof or baking dish, sprinkling the raisins and sultanas in between the layers of breadtriangles.3. Gently push down the triangles into the dish. Reserve the remaining bread triangles for later.4. To make the custard: whisk the eggs, egg yolks and the icing sugar together in a large jug. Addthe vanilla essence, milk and double cream. Whisk together.5. Pour two thirds of the custard over the bread and leave to stand for 45 minutes to 1 hour for thecustard to soak into the bread. Pour the remaining brandy from the fruit into the remaining onethird of custard. Pre-heat the oven to 180C / 350F / Gas 4.6. Pour the remaining custard over the previously soaked bread and butter triangles. Finish withthe reserved bread triangles, buttered side up.7. Press the slices down rmly so that the custard comes half way up the bread triangles. Grate thenutmeg over the top.8. Place the dish into a large roasting tin and ll with warm water so that it comes of the way upthe dish. Bake for 35-40 minutes until the custard has just set and the top is golden brown.

To serve:Serve the bread and butter pudding with apricot compote.

50g / 2oz sultanas50g / 2oz raisins4 tbsp brandy 14 slices of medium cut white bread150g / 5oz unsalted butter, softened4 whole medium eggs

4 medium egg yolks115g / 4oz icing sugar2 tsp vanilla pods450 ml / pint milk 750 ml / 1 pint double creamGround nutmegCaster sugar, for sprinkling
