Yes, it’s back to school once again. Classes resume on Tuesday, September 4 at 8:45 am with Early Dismissal at 11:30 am. Regular classes start on Wednesday, September 5, 8:45 am to 3:00 pm. Baptism Preparation Classes
The next Baptism Preparation Class (Part 1) will be on Saturday, September 8 @ 10:30 am in the Parish Office. Part 2 will be on September 15. Parents wishing to have their child baptized must attend both sessions. Please call the Parish Office to pre-register for the classes.
Tuesday English Bible Study Group
The Fall Session of the Tuesday English Bible Study group will commence on Tuesday, September 4 at 9:00 am in the parish library. Anyone who feels the need to deepen their understanding of God’s Word will be most welcome to join us for prayerful reflection on the Scriptures.

Registration fees are as follows: • $100 – for one child • $120 – for two children • $140 – for three or more children New students are asked to bring a copy of their baptismal certificate. Holy Family Hospital Gift Shop in Need of Volunteers
Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary is looking for gift shop volunteers to add to the team. All funds raised by the auxiliary are donated to Holy Family Hospital for the enhancement of patient and resident experience while in care. Gift shop volunteers independently run the store, assist patients and residents with purchases, stock shelves, handle small amounts of cash, and record sales in log. 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
I hope that everyone has had a good summer – that you got some rest – and are now
ready for the resuming of the school year. And yes – school resumes on Tuesday but it will be
a half-day for the students and full day for the teachers. The first full day will be Wednesday
and we will be resuming our School Masses at 9:05am --- everyone is welcome to attend these.
Beginning September 9th the doors between the main part of the Church and the Vestibule
will be closed – this will occur when Mass begins. The Ushers have been instructed to keep
these doors closed throughout Mass. If parents need to take their children out of the main body
of the Church to settle them down or attend to needs then please exit using the smaller doors on
either side of the big main doors.
Why are we doing this? First, the only people who should be in the Vestibule once Mass
begins are parents with small children who are unable to sit in Church or who have needs to be
taken care of. Once the children have settled down though it is important to bring them back
into the Church. Second, adults (there could be exceptions to this but for the vast majority) do
not and should not be standing in the Vestibule but rather be in the main body of the Church
and preferably be seated. There is plenty of pew space but more importantly the main body of
the Church represents (it symbolizes) being “in the Church”, being “in heaven” where the
worship of God takes place. It is what the main body of the Church symbolizes or represents.
This is why we have the baptistry in the Vestibule --- it best represents being baptized and then
becoming a member of the Church and entering the main body of the Church after this
sacrament.
By closing these main doors, we will be able to limit these distractions and allow the
priest and parishioners seated at the back of the Church to celebrate Mass more reverently.
As I mentioned in a sermon many weeks ago – unless there is a legitimate or serious
reason no one should leave right after Communion or even before the priest exits the main body
of the Church. This is showing respect to Our Lord
As we begin this new school year let us keep one another in prayer.

於星期二恢復上課，為學生們這是一個半天的課堂，為教師們，這卻是一整天的工
作。首個全日的課堂是在星期三，我們的學校彌撒時間也回復到上午 9:05—歡迎
所有人士參與。
由 9 月 9 日開始，聖堂主體和聖堂前廳中間的大門將會關閉—自彌撒開始時關閉
。接待員在彌撒進行中會確保大門關閉。家長們有需要把小孩帶出聖堂外要從聖堂
大門的兩旁小門進出。
原因為何？首先，在彌撒開始後聖堂前廳只容許那些家長，他們的兒童不能安坐聖
堂或需要照顧。當兒童安定後，家長必須把他們再度帶進聖堂內。其次（只屬大多
數，亦有例外）成人不要，不應逗留在前廳內，應處身聖堂內，最好能夠端坐座上
。聖堂內有足夠的座位，但更重要的是聖堂主體代表（象徵着）“在聖堂內” ，在“
天堂內” ，那裡，我們朝拜上主。這就是聖堂主體的代表和象徵所在。這就是為什
麼我們的領洗池要設在聖堂前廳內—它最能表徵着受洗後成為教會的成員，遂進入
教會的主體。
把大門關上，我們可以把外邊分散我們專注的事物隔開，讓神父和坐在後面的教友
們更尊敬地祝慶彌撒聖祭。
數周前我曾在宣道中提及—除非有合理的或重要的原因，任何人都不可以在領聖體
後立即或在主祭離開聖堂主體前離去。這是對我主的尊敬。
在新學年的開始，讓我們大家彼此代禱。

8 Tips to help children manage their
back-to-school anxiety (Part 2 of 2)

5. Relate to it We’ve all experienced anxiety, but sometimes kids need reassurance that their parents have gone through some-thing similar. Maybe you were afraid to try out for the softball team, take that college placement test, or navigate the lunch room on your own. Karen Young explains that when parents can relate and show kids that they’ve felt the same fearful or scared feelings but survived, and — most importantly —done the scary thing anyway, kids can face their fears with a little camaraderie and confidence. They trust that you love them, so they know if you’ve gone through it and are still asking them to do it, they can see that the source of their fear must not be life-threatening. Showing them you’ve gotten through it and that you see them as brave, competent and able can go a long way. Young reminds us not to dismiss their fears — the emotion is real — but to validate it, relate to it, and encourage them to go forward anyway.
6. Model it Dr. Goldstein says that kids pick up on a lot more than we think they do. If they hear you worrying about finances or appointments, your health or home repairs, they will inevitably begin modeling the behavior. Want to help your kids have less anxiety? Work on managing your own anxiety. There may be a genetic component anxiety and fear, but nonetheless kids will benefit hugely when parents learn to deal with their own anxious and fearful behaviors. If you are worried about something, you can use the situation as a teaching point by letting your kids see you work through your own anxiety (perhaps by using some of these expert tips!).
7. Consider the probability According to the DSM-5, anxiety is caused by “the anticipation of a future threat.” A great example from Dr. Goldstein included a child who may be afraid of going to school because she’s afraid her teacher will yell at her, or other kids won’t like her. In this case, helping your child determine the probability of such events happening can diminish the perception of this threat. Asking them questions about the fear and working through the actual prob-ability of this happening can help show them that the chance of this “bad thing” happening is actually pretty low. Has the teacher screamed at her? Have the other kids had mean looks on their faces? Sometimes the anxiety is caused by real events that have transpired, but other times, anxiety is simply a fear of something that isn’t likely to happen. Figuring out which one your child is struggling with is helpful in determining the next plan of action.
8. Get outside help All of us struggle with anxiety from time to time. But sometimes kids (and families) require some outside help in managing it. Dr. Goldstein says that he’s “never had someone say they came in too early. In fact, usually people wish they would’ve sought help earlier than later, to minimize suffering.” If anxiety or fear is causing major dis-tress or suffering for the child, or interference in the child or family’s life and normal activities, it might be time to seek help from a professional. Dr. Goldstein recommends seeking out a licensed psychologist or licensed clinical social worker with extensive cognitive behavioral therapy experience.
