Repairs made to the Rood Screen at St Illtud’s. SPLATT started. Opening of the Galilee Chapel. St Cattwg’s was reroofed. Colour photocopier arrived and we have colour in Pew News etc. Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall visited Galilee Chapel. Rachel ordained. The Swedish Choir visited us. Another successful Flower Festival. Golden Jubilee of the Rood. Repairs to heating system at St Illtud’s. Sunday @4 started. Repairs to heating at St Donat’s. Rector’s Sabbatical. The occasion and circumstances are forgotten, but the incident is not. About three or four years ago, I was in church one evening. A few people were there including the Revd Huw and a man who, for some unknown reason, had been walking for many miles and arrived at the church cold and hungry. Huw went home and brought back bread and cheese for the man, and a coat. When I questioned whether it was Huw’s coat he dismissed it as ‘only an old one’. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help exclaiming ‘St Martin and St Francis’, comparing him with two saints who both gave their garments to strangers at the moment of need. Huw is indeed a holy man and my personal spirituality has been enhanced by his teaching and example. Like many others, I shall miss him but wish him well in his new benefice. JJ
