  • PreDiCon is a family company with the intent of supplying on-line, predictive maintenance (PdM) solutions and PdM engi-neering services to industry.

Overall, the company can be characterized as a high quality engineering company which specializes in providing PdM solu-tions and the means to ensure that those solutions are actually carried out.

For many years companies and corporations with a maintenance department have been supplied with off-line PdM systems from hardware manufacturers and software houses, coupled with some basic training.

The condition of industry today is such that only a very few companies have managed to develop an effective PdM system, the vast majority of installed systems (over 90% ac-cording to sources) have atrophied to such a low level of activity that to all perception, there is no practical operation of predictive maintenance. The premier drawbacks of an

    off-line system are:

Firstly that there is no inherent value in the system because the system is only as effective as the last time the technician gathered data and carried out analysis.

Secondly, the data is only gath-ered (nominally) monthly. Many failures develop much more quickly and are thus missed.

The companies using these sys-tems are often hard pressed to

supply the required manpower for contin-ued operation of the system.

PreDiCon is the only company to offer a proven auditable PdM system which is tai-lored to the customers requirements and is structured to continually provide the plant management with proof that quantifiable cost savings are being made. No other com-pany is providing a structure that is self monitoring and accountable for profitable operation of a predictive maintenance sys-tem.

In response to demonstrated needs of our market, new services are being developed to include systems reengineering, audits of existing systems, and systems effectiveness evaluation. These new services are espe-cially useful to senior management who can now quantify the success, or otherwise, of their existing PdM systems.

New products are under continual develop-ment and we will soon be launching low cost vibration monitoring systems, advanced

asset management software with multiple modules including vibration analysis and performance monitoring.

To enhance our R&D effort PreDiCon is de-veloping an integrated predictive and per-formance analysis software package ena-bling plant management to make informed, profitable decisions. The Angel product is patented as are all new developments.

P r e D i -Con offers services in infrared thermal imaging, ultra-sonic leak detection and vibration analysis. Stocked equipment includes FLIR PM575 thermal imaging cameras, Commtest VB1000 vibration analyzers and PDC designed and built ultrasonic analyzers. PreDi-Con also offers tribological sampling of used and new lubricating and hydraulic oils.

On Line vibration analysis products include Guardian and Angel as complementary components of a 24/7 vibration and process monitoring package. The Guardian component carries out the monitoring function and Angel transfers data to PreDiCon for routine analysis and reporting.

B y 2003 PreDiCon will be a highly visible company known as the best on-line monitoring system and PdM service provider in the PdM industry. We will also have developed several PdM products and marketed these prod-ucts and related services to the indus-try, becoming the leader in PdM after-sales support and service. Sales will exceed $6,000,000 and PreDiCon will actively be promoting lower cost PdM to the newer and larger customer base of smaller industrial plants.

    COMPANY HISTORY

    Vision

Winners of the System of the Year Award at Lordstown Fabrication Plant. Another system installed by PreDiCon .

The predictive maintenance market is in a unique situation at present. Over 2,500 off-line vibration analysis systems have been deployed in the last 5 years.

Approximately 25% of the users of these systems would purchase an on-line vi-bration monitoring system for their critical equipment but are dissuaded by the very high purchase cost of existing systems. Fewer than 1% of existing users ac-tually purchase on-line monitoring systems for this reason. The Guardian Angel system provides on-line monitoring at a cost which is less than the existing off-line system when one considers the cost of manpower and missed equipment failures.

PreDiCon maintain up to date equipment inven-tories including the state of the art FLIR PM575.

In order to achieve our Vision, PreDiCon commits to the following

PreDiCon ' s Mission is to provide innovative, practical and top-quality services and products that improve the way people do predictive maintenance. We believe our first responsibility is to the clients who use our products and services. Our strong financial position will enable us to develop new markets and introduce predictive mainte-nance into plants which have previously considered PdM as being too capital intensive to be profitable. In carrying out our day-to-day business we strive to:

    1. Treat our employees with respect.

    2. Follow the philosophy that our customers are the reason why the company exists.

Training. PreDiCon offers a full range of on site and classroom training courses aimed at all levels of users of predictive maintenance.

The services offered by PreDiCon are all directly related to improving the cost efficiency of the customer through the use of Predictive Maintenance.

Audit of existing PdM system. Many existing systems do not live up to their original prom-ise. Our engineers carry out audits of existing PdM systems, suggesting areas for improvement and at the same time of-fering the services and products of PreDiCon to implement the improvements.

PdM feasibility studies i.e. Will it work for my plant? Because of the inherently technical nature of predictive main-tenance, customers new to the market have little or no idea which technologies and tech-niques will be suitable to their plant. Our engi-neers carry out a study to determine which (if any) types of predictive maintenance will be suitable to the plant in question.

Database installation & Set Up Predictive Maintenance is an engineering discipline in its own right. It is not realistic to expect tradesmen to have enough experience and knowledge to set up a new system after a few weeks training. Our engineers can set up the system and give the customer on-the-job training at the same time.

Every week you receive a summary of the condition of all of your monitored equipment.

The data under analysis is always current and you can be sure that trained and experienced engineers carry out the analysis. Your system will give you full value for all of its operational life.

We recommend that the server at the plant be linked to a permanent broadband connections with a fixed IP

address (network integrity is maintained by a firewall on the server PC). This is so that our engineers can access the data at any time and see live data at the very high connection speeds currently available.

By opting for Guardian Angel the cus-tomer will make savings not only on his equipment but also by optimizing manpower and training requirements.

Guardian Angel starts at only $10 per day per monitored node with dis-

counts available for larger systems. Data is information

Information is power to control your destiny

The value of any monitoring system is not in the equip-ment it is in the data. The data from a portable data collection system starts to lose value immediately after it is collected because it is already out of date.

To ensure full value from a portable monitoring system the engineer must be absolutely certain that all of the failure mechanism durations on the monitored ma-chines are shorter than the data collection interval. If the data is old or if the analysis is wrong then there is no value in the monitoring system. If the data is new and the analysis is accurate you have full value continually

At set intervals, the Angel portion of the system transmits all data to our offices via the Internet so that our engineers can examine the data in Guardian. The allocated engineer for your system then examines the log file for alarm events and carries out a full analysis of the data which has gone into alarm.

If any corrective action is required the PreDiCon engineer calls his contact in your organisation either by phone, e-mail or fax depending on your preference.
