19.1 Welcome Address The President thanked all members who were present for the AGM and also welcomed all new members to the Association. He also stated the association’s aim is to have more members to be present during future AGMs. 19.2 Confirmation and adoption of the minutes of the 18th AGM, held on 19th September 2013 at Pusat Kembangan Pendidikan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Jalan Termeloh, 53200 Kuala Lumpur The minutes was proposed for confirmation and adoption by Puan Anee Suryani bte Sued and seconded by Puan Hjh. Mimi Nora bte. Mansor. 19.3 Matters Arising All members who were present agreed that the numbers of Executive committee members be increased to eleven. This decision will be forwarded to the ROS for amendment in the LASAM constitution. As LASAM could not afford to engage a professional accountant to manage its account Dr. Vellayan volunteered to help the treasurer in preparing the accounts for the next AGM since he has had some experience in this matter by being members of many professional societies. 19.4 Adoption of the Audited Accounts for the year ended 30th June 2014 and the Auditors’ Report The audited account and auditors’ report were proposed for adoption by Dr. Vellayan A/L Subramaniam and seconded by Dr. Rosita binti Mohd Hussain. 19.5 Other Matters 19.5.1 The President announced that a copy of the Proposed Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes which was drafted by the Association is with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). MOSTI brought this document for discussion with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) and Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry on the possibility that this document can be adopted as an official guideline for the country where use of animals for scientific purpose is concerned while waiting for the Animal Welfare Act to be passed by Parliament. However, NRE insisted that a section on wildlife should be included in the Code since they are also used for research. MOSTI handed over the Code of Practice after the addition of that section to NRE to present it to their minister to be brought up at a cabinet committee. However, to date there is no further development. 19.5.2 The 6th AFLAS Congress will be held from 11th to 12th November, 2014 and LASAM will also organise a pre-conference workshop from 9th to 10th November and a post-conference workshop on the 13th November, 2014. So far only 2 Malaysian have registered for the congress and the President hope that all members will join and make the event a success and hopefully Malaysians will make up the largest participants in the event.. The soft copy of the fliers will be sent out by the event manager (PROTEMP) within this week and the President hoped that all members also will help to disseminate this information.

Dr. Goh Yong Meng was elected the Organizing Chairman by the Exco. The venue for the 2014 6th AFLAS Congress will be the Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. 19.5.3 The issue of members who have not been active and have not paid their annual fees for three years or more will be removed from the membership. Some have left for their home country after having completed their higher degree in Malaysia. Out of a total of 145 members last year, 17 were removed at last year’s AGM. This year another 18 will be removed from the members’ list by this month as indicated with * on the membership list in the notice. However, we have about 40 new members joining after the 19th August, 2013. As of 18th August 2014 the total number of members stands at 166. The Treasurer needs to keep note that if any members are not paying their annual fees for more than three year, their names will be automatically removed from the membership list and they ceased to be members of LASAM. 19.5.4 The President requested that members should disseminate information about upcoming conference, seminars or talks to colleagues in their institution and encourage more people to attend the function and also for them to become members of LASAM. Ms Cindy Shiu from Prima Nexus wish to be a member and to help out in promoting LASAM as she is currently meeting with many clients in the field of animal science and will also help out in publicity or in awareness in Prima Nexus website. Dr. Vellayan suggested that Prima Nexus should join as a cooperate member to help out LASAM. 19.5.6 Dr. Vellayan suggested that in the members’ list, under the Institution column the word Private should be more specific, for example Private Practice, Consultant or Small Animal Practice as this will give a better picture of the members’ list. 19.6 Adjournment & Closing The AGM was adjourned at 1:00 pm, with a word of thanks by the president to all members, and especially to Prima Nexus for sponsoring the Laboratory Animal Science Seminar 2014 and making the meeting possible.
