Religion Pushers: Bad for Business

Our country is often seen as the “melting pot”, a place where people can be anyone they want with out

unishment, a country with no limits; but the truth is America is not perfect. Often Americans find themselves in a f

or their freedom too. Most of this fighting stems from the differences between two different people. Differences are

usually the main cause of fights and arguments between two people, whether it be friends or strangers, differences c

nough to tear people apart. This also applies to the world as a whole. We often let our differences with neighboring

ountries or surrounding cultures define our relationship, or lack thereof, with people who think and believe differen

rom what we are used to. They limit us from creating bonds and keep us from having meaningful experiences beca

we are afraid of the unknown. This can also be said about the many different cultures and the beliefs those cultures h

n our world today. To some, eliminating or ignoring people that are different than the norm is much easier than

oexisting with them because it allows them to remain in a bubble of comfort. While change can be hard and scary,

an’t simply choose to eliminate those who are different from what we are used to from our society. This is, in many

ways, a form of oppression by ignoring the basic rights of one group to benefit the other. Instead we have to learn to

nly tolerate each other, but also accept and understand the views that other hold in order to move forward in the wo

nd more s ecificall in the work lace where there shouldn’t be an dilemmas involvin the reli ion of others.

Progression 1 For the first

The Twists and Turns of Empowerment

Everyone has his or her own ideas about sex, and more generally, different cultures also have different

deas of what is acceptable in a society when it concerns sexual expression. Not everyone has the same views ab

hat kind of sexual expression is appropriate for the public to be exposed to. With so many ideas about this w

iscussed topic, it’s no wonder there has never been a universal way to embrace sexuality the “correct” way. T

sues have been reoccurring since anyone can remember, and professionals, such as psychologists and writers

onstantly debate the negative and positive affects of the many kinds of sexual expression. One of these people

eing Sharon Lamb, states “…we must not confuse sexual freedom with a commodified version of sexuality” (

hich goes against Zoë Petersons claims that girls’ expressing their sexuality is a positive thing. This debate is

veryone’s concern, yet it seems to almost solely revolve around the sexuality of girls and young women. Much

hat is written and debated about is about the way women are treated by men, and more importantly, whethe

ot women in our American society are being empowered through their personal actions and decisions. What

omen do in the name of sexual expression is often seen as being hyper-sexualized, but by whose standards? W

ome consider degrading and disempowering might be empowering to someone else, which is why so many peo

iscuss the idea of empowerment. But, because everyone’s idea of empowerment varies, it only makes sense th

e look at sexual empowerment as a subjective matter, because, if sexual empowerment is an objective matter

ne could ever truly be empowered, especially women. Women should be able to freely express themselves bec

ot only does it allow women to be confident with their bodies and minds as they are, but it also empowers the

ays other than sexuality.

Progression 2 Unlike progression one,

rogression two had to do with issues that are

more social rather than political. In my second

ssay I decided to write about how women can

e empowered through their actions if they

uly feel good about what they do, despite

ocietal views. This had a lot to do with many of

he articles given to us in class, along with theocumentaries such as Generation M, all which

escribe their own side on the matter of female

mpowerment vs. what the media tells us what

mpowerment is.

““If women are expected to do thsame work as men, we must teac

them the same things.”

My Semester in Writing

My revisions on my essays

 were mostly fixing certain

sentences that didn’t make alot of sense. I also tried

fixing phrases that didn’t

make sense or didn’t come

across the way I wanted

them to. I also added some

quotes in order to help

support what I was trying to

argue. Overall I don’t

believe my essays are

perfect but I know I will

continue to improve. This

class not only helped me

realize what I need to work

on in my writing, it taught

me that knowing what’s

going on in the world and

taking a stance in real life is

 what really matters.

Not Perfect But…  In the

beginning of the semester I

knew there was a lot I had to work on, and now I know

what that is. Some of my

 weaknesses involve me

being too repetitive, and

dishing out way too many

points without any support

to back it up. This has a lot to

do with my organizational

skills which I also need to

work on in order to keep my

thoughts in order and don’t

dwell on the same thing

over and over again.

Despite my many

 weaknesses I am able to

bring up some good points

and I will work on

supporting them.

Slow Improvement

Over the course of the

semester I wrote more than I

ever did before. I also wrote

about many different topics

that are very current which

forced me to really pick a

side, something that I didn’t

really feel comfortable

doing until now. I still not

writing the way I want to be writing but I would like to

say this class did help me

improve. I also now have a

better idea of what makes

 writing great compared to

good which is what I hope to

achieve in the future.
