FACADE CONDESAFachada Condesa

En este ejercicio, se buscó el diseño de una fachada y la integración con el contexto de su localización. Éste se encontraba en la Colonia Condesa. La fachada del proyecto es una galería de arte. La Condesa se caracteriza por tener arquitectura Art Decó y lo que quise buscar fue un contraste en vanos y macizos, pero a su vez, no haciéndolo con alturas y ejes compositivos. Como resultado, con materiales estructurales de acero y concreto, y una imagen de caballos (recalcando la historia del hipódromo condesa) en un cristal esmer-ilado, es una fachada contemporánea.

In this exercise, the goal was for the design of a facade to be integrated with the context of its location. This was in the Colonia Condesa in Mexico City, a trendy, artsy neighborhood. The facade of the project is an art Gallery. La Condesa is characterized by Art Deco architecture, and what I aimed for was a contrast within a picture window and a solid wall, but at the same time, respecting the neighboring heights and compositional axes. As a result, concrete and steel structural materials and an image of horses (highlighting the history of the racetrack Countess) in a frosted glass, make this a contemporary facade.

Proyecto de Extensión Universitaria para mejorar el Frente Popular Francisco Villa (FPFV) en la colonia Polvorilla, en Iztapalapa. Entre su programa arqui-tectónico se encuentra una Nueva Manzana, una Plaza Comercial, 175 Viviendas con 3 Recámaras respectiva-mente. Se busca optimizar los espacios y la mejor administración económica de éstos.Ya que el concepto es Francisco Villa, y une éste a su comunidad, se plantea fachadas con personajes revolucionarios mexicanos. Como resultado decidi-mos crear un conjunto habitacional donde mezcle vivienda, negocio, carpintería, estética, mecánica, venta de flores y demás negocios ofertan distintos servicios de cara a la avenida San Rafael Atlixco, donde familias completas, identificadas con el FPFV han establecido su hogar.

ExtensionUniversitariaProjecttoimproveFran-cisco Villa Popular Front (FPFV) in the Polvorilla neighborhood in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. Among its architectural program is a new block, a shop-ping complex and residential buildings with a total of175 3-bedroom apartments. The goal is to maximize the use of the urban space and it´s surroundings while also making the most effec-tive use of the project´s budget.Since the concept is within Francisco Villa and its connection to the community, the façade inte-grates images of important revolutionary char-acters. As a result we created a complex that blends housing and small businesses including carpentry, beauty salons, auto repair shops and other businesses offering different services fac-ing San Rafael Atlixco Avenue, where families who identified with FPFV have established their home.

STUDY ROOMSPECIAL SPACE, TECHNOLOGY AND MULTIMEDIA TRAINING FOR

PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE

Ciudad Universitaria was opened in 1954 and, at that time, the needs of the University and its students were very different. The curriculums for the academic programs were very different and the student population was less than half. Today, time has generated the required transformation of the campus and the current curriculum requires that the students spend more time in the facilities. The development of technology and the new tools available make it necessary for the University to stay up to date with this evolution. The thesis aims to design a project created for academic purposes and ideally to utilize a space that is cur-rently not being used to its full potential.

The proposal is to develop a Studio Room, which offers its users services like workshops, work areas, model shop, private rooms for group study or practices and a computer room computer offering internet access and printers to support the academic training of students of architecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.The University Museum of Science and Arts (MUCA) is the main building within the premises of the Faculty of Architecture. It is a underused space that could serve the academic needs of the students by transforming its infrastructure. In the words of Ignacio González-Varas: “The renewed use of a building by adapting to the demands of contemporary use, while respecting their character and historical values.”

This project consisted in finding a new use for a preexisting space which was formerly a public floral market in Turin, Italy. It consisted of: analysis of areas and distribution of sunlight, study of the structure and material proposal. The solution suggested containers superimposed over its original structural frames.

  In the spring of 1536, during the Franco-Habsburg conflict, the city was occupied by the French. In 1562, following the period of French occupation, the Duke Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy built the Citadel, a fortified system that discourages any invader. It reorganized the state in unity and strength, adorned the city with numerous monuments and palaces    

   In 1802, with the final annexation of Piedmont to France, the city takes on a different form: large squares, connected by a system of tree-lined promenades external. In 1852 it approved the demolition of the Citadel, making available an enormous expanse of land, on which stands the new residential area of Porta Susa and Piazza Statuto. In 1853 was built ,in a very short time, one of the first major industrial hubs of the city. Within a century or so, the workshops affect urban plans as well as social growth of a significant part of the city, to obsolete plants and their recent closure.    

After 1864, when the town lost its role as capital of the new Italian State, the regional capital of Piedmont began to change into a new town, where manufacturing gradually, and not without contradictions, began to expand and develop. The numerous industrial factories, scattered throughout the road grid of the old centre, tell of the difficult transformation phase toward the modernity of today’s Turin.    

The area of the Officine ferroviarie, built ibetween 1885-1895, is situated in the vicinity of the historic city center and in the edge of the area of the Crocetta, which stands out as a prime area of residence of social classes in middle and high incomes. All areas bordering the central are characterized by a dynamic state of profound transformation..

Officine Grandi Repair Stations are one of the last vestiges of the industrial history of Turin. Built between 1885 and 1895 the OGR became a crucial point of the urban fabric.The OGR that belong to that area of town known as the “Great Services”. They contained, among others, the New Prisons, the Municipal Slaughterhouse, the Cattle Market and the Casotti daziari. Today some of these structures have largely disappeared following the transformation of the city and part of the historical OGR is occupied by the Polytechnic and its Citadel.

Confirming innovative attitude, it is the size of the complex, in which a H-shaped structure is an imposing cathedral of technology, with aisles of almost 200 meters, connected transversely by a body lowest factory. In the north building body, like in a box, it is an exceptional element called “Ca-thedral”, a converted volume in the nave of greater height than the other three.

That’s why works of restoration will lead to a new and full functionality as a center of cultural production and applied research in collaboration with companies, and Polytechnic University. The planned intervention, respectful of the con-servation of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage crite-ria reserved for industrial archeology assets, will maintain and will enhance the strength of the past that a place like this is still capable of arousing, in keeping with the experi-mental nature of new scenarios imagined.
