Social Programme March 20-‐24th
During workshops If you need to kick back and relax your head during the busy workshop days, come and find us! During breaks, we will have a new activity each day. …on Tuesday, you can come plant your own cress, a stable in every Danish windowsill during spring. You can use it to spice up your food later! …on Wednesday come make your own “gækkebrev”, a 500 year old tradition of letter-‐sending still practiced in Denmark. You write a greeting and sign your name using only dots – the recipient has to guess your name based on the number of letters in your name. If they’re wrong, they must give you an Easter egg made of chocolate!
…on Thursday we’re going back to childhood with every Danes favourite childhood pastime – the LEGO bricks! Go ahead and build whatever your heart desire – let’s see that IFMSA creativity we all love!
Evenings Monday Opening Ceremony and Welcome Party! For the first night of Pre-‐EuRegMe we will give you a warm welcome, presenting a bit of what Aarhus has to offer. Look forward to speeches from both the O.C., the president of IMCC Denmark, a sketch or to from our very own revue “Medicinerrevyen” – and much, much more.
Prepare to be wined and dined, buy delicious drinks (virgin or alcoholic) in our O.C.-‐bar, and
… dance the night away! Dress code: semi-‐formal Tuesday Ever heard of the Danish word “Hygge”? It’s a word that can’t be translated to other languages, but roughly means something cozy, warm and fussy. Well, we’re going to have a “hyggelig” time on Tuesday! We’ll fire up the bonfire in the University Park, where you’ll have to work a bit to get your dessert – twistbread and s’mores! We’re hoping for good weather, but since you never know with Danish weather – least of all in april – bring a warm sweater and warm yourselves by the fire!
Wednesday On the third night, we will be exploring Aarhus! Choose between these two things: ARoS-‐trip ARoS is one of the largest art museums in Northern Europe and is home to the famous skywalk "Your Rainbow Panorama" by Ólafur Elíasson, as well as both contemporary art, a classic collection and the iconic 4.5 metres tall ”Boy” sculpture. Please note that the ARoS-‐trip costs an additional 12€
…. or Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt We’re celebrating Easter a little late – the Easter Bunny went and spread Easter Eggs all over Aarhus, and you have to go find them! The hunt will take you past cool Aarhus sights, such as The Old Town -‐ a top tourist attraction, The Old Town is a National Open Air Museum of Urban History and Culture and one of Denmark’s few 3 star attractions in Guide Michelin.
Please sign up for your preferred activity on Tuesday – there’ll be a sign-‐up sheet at the lunch hall! For those not tired yet, you can come with us to enjoy a night of off-‐key singing and Irish atmosphere. It’s Karaoke Night down at our favourite pub -‐ Waxies!!
Thursday We’ll send you off with a It’s time for a goodbye party! The theme is “Dress like a dane” – it’s time to put everything you’ve learned in the past week to use! Whether you want to dress like your new Danish friends, spice it up like good ol’ Aqua or go all out Copenhagen hipster – we are sure you will all look faboulous! For inspiration, go to http://tinyurl.com/dresslikeadane We’ve booked a club in downtown Aarhus’ ultimate party-‐street – conveniently located right next to your hotel! We’ve secured some really good prices in the bar, so all you have to worry about is having the best time with all of your new friends! PS: a curious thing about the Danish flag – most people see it less as a sign of Denmark, and more of a sign of someone having their birthday. So feel free to don the Danish flag – all of us Danes will just be humming birthday songs and thinking of cake! Dress code: Danish!
Past time If you arrive in Aarhus early, need time to yourself or want to kill time on Friday morning before going to Aalborg – here’s a few things you could do!
Shopping Despite the young population, Aarhus is proud of being one of the eldest cities in Denmark and contains old city parts such as the Latin Quarter – right around the corner from the hotel! This is one of the most atmospheric, bustling and trend-‐setting parts of the city. Go here if you want a good cup of coffee, hand picked vintage items or hand-‐made jewellery.
For high street brands, the main shopping street is right around the corner as well!
Cafes, bars and nightlife
Nightlife in Aarhus is very special. You can find cafés, clubs, pubs and bars in every shade imaginable and because the city centre is so compact and everything is within an easy reach, you will feel a laid-‐back atmosphere and a nearness that you simply can’t find anywhere else. “Åen” in Aarhus is the very centre of the nightlife in town. Here you will find everything from gritty to fancy bars, dancing to ping-‐pong places. Leave your summer jacket in one place and go bar-‐crawling all night long. How about going to Herr Bartels on Wednesdays or Thursdays for “Two-‐for-‐one”-‐offers on beer and incredible drinks? (Also, this is a favourite hangout spot for medical students) For coffee, try going to Street coffee in Vestergade for the best cup of coffee in the city and a cool atmosphere, or head in the direction of “Frederiksbjerg” – a part of city crowded with cozy cafes and small eateries!
Parks and beaches As Aarhus is located at the coastline, it has many idyllic beaches within short distance of the city centre. It also contains several parks such as the Botanical Garden with an amphitheatre and "Dyrehaven" where you can go and feed the deers. During the Pre-‐EuRegMe you will get acquainted with the University Park, which is also a nice and tranquil place to pass some quiet-‐time. We recommend… Shopping

KAPSEJLADSEN 2015 – 24th of april Said to be the biggest event for students in northern Europe, “Kapsejladsen” takes place every year at the University Park. It started as a mockery of the Oxford/Cambridge boat races in 1991, where the medical and dentist students would sail across the lake in the center of the park, down a beer, spin around ten times and sail back across the lake. 5 persons from each team would compete, and the first team to finish won the relay. Since then it has been held every year, and has been expanded to include 12 different faculties each year. The medical faculty has won 9 times since 2000! The rules are many and complicated, and include the team having to sail some kind of inflatable boat and having at least one girl on each team. Each year the park is filled to the brim with students camping out in the park – some even stay the night before in tents in order to secure a front-‐row seat! Most people arrive around 6 o clock in the morning and eat breakfast, drink beer and enjoy the day off in the sunshine (if we’re lucky!). The boat race doesn’t start until 2 o clock, however there are events, quizzes, a naked run and – in later years – even concerts while you wait for the race to start! Unfortunately, we will be leaving for Aalborg before the race starts – but if you feel like absorbing the atmosphere of the whole thing, swing by the park on Friday morning and hang out until the EuRegMe-‐adventure continues!
