PROCENTEC DP/PA Converter Using ComBricks in a ABB Redundant System
1. Report Purpose
The purpose of this report is to provide: • Proof of testing and concept of ComBricks DP/PA in Redundancy Mode with ABB Systems • Directions for product implementation of ComBricks DP/PA solution with ABB Systems • Overview of advantages of configuration of ComBricks DP/PA solution with ABB Systems
2. Overview of ComBricks Diagnostic & Repeater Platform
ComBricks is a modular repeater platform with PROFIBUS DP, PA, Foundation Fieldbus or PROFINET capabilities. ComBricks has integrated diagnostic functionality and features allowing 24/7 monitoring of a network via standard Ethernet connection to the head station. The user accesses the diagnostic information via a web interface, allowing for remote viewing to a SCADA browser, via a VPN, or standard office connection. Within the ComBricks system, the user can observe electrical signal and message level diagnostics, including, but not limited to: • Electrical Signal: Oscilloscope image, Voltage Levels, PA Jitter • Message: Live List, Message Level Recording, Channel overview • Communication: SNMP, OPC, email messages • Alarms: Event Triggers, contact, and stop light overview
3. Overview of ComBricks Used in Testing
ComBricks platform supports a DP/PA link module with integrated SCOPE diagnostic features. ComBricks DP/PA link is transparent to the PLC Master, without restriction of the baudrate on the DP network connection side. For the purpose of this testing, ComBricks was used in LINK Mode. ComBricks PA card also has a Coupler mode, but this was not used during this tests.

4. Layout of the Test System
The test system consists of: • 1x ABB AC 800M defined as the “PLC” • 2x ABB CI854A defined as “PROFIBUS modules” • 1x ComBricks DP/PA Kit in redundant configuration defined in section 5 • 1x E+H TMT84 defined as the “PA Device” • 1x PROCENTEC SIO4DP defined as the “DP Device”
5. PROCENTEC ComBricks DP/PA converter
The PROCENTEC ComBricks used in the test is composed of: • 1x Head Station Type 1B (101-20011B) • 2x SCOPE Repeater (101-20121) • 1x PROFIBUS PA link/coupler module (101-201610) Alternatively, also 2x 1Ch Repeater (101-201101) or 1x 2 Channel Repeater (101-201102) can be used instead SCOPE Repeater modules, but the scope images of the electrical signal on the DP side will not be available. The ComBricks system was connected with the ABB PLC as shown in the following schematic:

6. Test preparation
Because ABB system uses a redundant network. The two Repeater modules of the ComBricks must be set in redundant mode (setting RED dip-switch to ON). For this test we used the ComBricks system in LINK mode (setting LINK dip-switch to ON on the PA module), allowing two different speeds for DP and PA side.

The ABB PLC is configured according to the following image. Standard Bus Parameters at 1.5M are used.

Going online with the software shows that the PA device(s) is configured correctly and in Data-Exchange with the PLC.

The status of the network can be checked using the ComBricks webpage. The statistics of the network shows that the device(s) is connected and in Data Exchange (Green Background):

The communication on PA side can be checked with ProfiTrace software connected on the PA side using ProfiCore with PA Ultra probe:

7. Testing Redundancy
For testing the redundancy we disconnect one of the two PROFIBUS DP links at the time and check if there are LOST in the statistics page of ComBricks and ProfiTrace. Device is not losing communication during the switching of redundancy line.

Redundancy fails are show with a blinking LED on the SCOPE module and also on the webpage of ComBricks:

It’s also possible to get E-mails notifications in case of redundancy problems:

8. RLM Capability
ComBricks can be used also as a RLM device adding a 3rd SCOPE Repeater or 1Ch Repeater. A DP Device was connected directly to the 3rd module and went correctly in Data Exchange with the PLC.

RLM and DP/PA Link functionality can be used together in one unique ComBricks system. Saving money, space and allowing extra monitoring of each segment of the PROFIBUS Network.

9. Conclusions
The conclusions about the capabilities of the PROCENTEC ComBricks system, used in redundancy mode with ABB PLC are the following: • ComBricks configured as described in this report, works with ABB system 800M style redundant
communication mode. • ComBricks DP/PA Link provides notification of potential or immediate failure of a PA or DP Network. • ComBricks can be used within the ABB redundant master communication on the PROFIBUS DP side,
creating continuous communication with PA devices attached.
