Mission

Skadden’s mission is to provide excellent corporate and pro bono legal service to its clients. Skadden also aims to provide aid and hospitality to the greater public through numerous charitable events.

History

1948- Skadden, Slate, & Arps open firm

1959- 1st woman attorney hired

1960- Name changes to Skadden, Slate, Arps, Meagher, & Flom

1984- Chicago office opens. 1985- Skadden becomes

one of nation’s three largest firms.

Where I Work & What I Do

Skadden Law Firm- Legal Library The members of my department

keep legal books organized, locate legal documents, & maintain the office library database systems.

Although I enjoy working, my favorite part of my job are the beverage gatherings that take place every Thursday.

Major Project: Moved the entire corporate library from one floor to 4 separate floors in a matter of weeks

Main Duties: Manage legal library database, handle all new incoming books and files

Community

2013 Holiday Drive- Skadden raised money by selling raffle tickets for huge prizes and also by wheeling around the treat cart throughout the entire office. Through these efforts, Skadden raised over 30,000 dollars! 30 Acts of Kindness- Skadden of Chicago is celebrating its 30th year anniversary by completing 30 acts of charitable kindness throught Chicago.

What Have I learned

So far I’ve learned…- How to use library data

systems such as Heinonline and Eos

- How to maintain legal libraries (shelves, books, records)

- How to use a routing system to organize periodicals and newspapers

Plans after graduation

Currently I am planning on attending the University of Kentucky in the fall!

I am excited to go away to school, make new friends, live on my own, and explore my new life in college.

I plan on majoring in accounting or finance.
