The aim of the project is to promote the traditional Chinese culture on Cheongsam, to connect elderly and youth, as well as to encourage them to care and appreciate each other. Youth can be groomed on the sense of responsibility when self-value of elderly can be enhanced, the integration of youth and elderly is successfully achieved. The Qipao Catwalk Show is the second major event in this project, which has been held in 19 February 2017 at Y Theatre in Youth Square with over 400 participants involved. Elderly and youth performed Catwalk with Cheongsam. Media expert Ms Eileen Cha Siu Yan acted as a guest emcee to have an interactive Q&A section with the participants, to show the appreciation and respect among elderly and youth. Besides, the programme of the event also included singing performance from a local artist Ms Joey Mak and Taiwan group of artist I-Want, street dance performance with Cheongsam from Youth Step and sign language song performance from elderly volunteer. The officiating guest included Mr Stephen Sui, JP, Secretary for Labour and Welfare; Mrs Susanne Wong, JP, District Officer (Central and Western); Mr Chit Kwai Chan, BBS, JP, Chairmen of Culture, Leisure & Social Affairs Committee; Mr Ding Fung Lam, District Social Welfare Officer (Central Western, Southern and Islands), Social Welfare Department; Ms Jessica Hu, OSJ, Litt D, MH, Founder of Chinese Qipao Society; Mr Eric Lam, General Manager of Youth Square; Mr Paul Yu, Chairman of Mutual Caring Association. Local artist Ms Strawberry Yuk-mui Yeung, Mr Anson Poon and fashion designer Ms Lai Fun Wu are invited as the guest of the event. Since June 2016, a series of classes on make-up techniques, nail art, photo-shooting and dancing skills were been given to all participated youth, to offer the best preparation for them. Apart from to experience the elegant temperament by wearing Cheongsam, the sense of responsibility and patience of the youth can be trained through the interaction and performance partnership with elderly, in order to achieve the integration of youth and elderly.

Qipao Catwalk Show

To achieve the integration of youth and elderly

(19 February 2017, Hong Kong) Youth Square has created a charity project called “Qipao Catwalk Show”

with Social Welfare Department, Chinese Qipao Society and Mutual Caring Association, with the support

from five non-government organizations. The aim of the project is to promote the traditional Chinese

culture on Cheongsam, to connect elderly and youth, as well as to encourage them to care and appreciate

each other. Youth can be groomed on the sense of responsibility when self-value of elderly can be

enhanced, the integration of youth and elderly is successfully achieved.

The Qipao Catwalk Show is the second major event in this project, which has been held in 19 February

2017 at Y Theatre in Youth Square with over 400 participants involved. Elderly and youth performed

Catwalk with Cheongsam. Media expert Ms Eileen Cha Siu Yan acted as a guest emcee to have an

The event was supported by a total of five non-profit organizations, include the St. James' Settlement

Central & Western District Elderly Community Centre, H.K.S.K.H. Western District Elderly Community

Centre, Caritas Mok Cheung Sui Kun Community Centre, Caritas Community Centre – Caine Road,

Caritas Jockey Club Integrated Service for Young People – Shek Tong Tsui, BGCA Jockeys Club Sheung

Wan C&Y Integrated Services Center and YWCA Western District Integrated Social Service Centre.

60 youth and elderly performed in the opening dance after 6 months of dance training and preparation of

the show.

The oldest participant, Ms. Chung, won in superme group of the competition.

A memorable moment - the winning teams, officiating guests and performance teams took a group photo

together.

Local artists Mr Anson Poon and Ms Joey Mak, were invited to be judge and performance guest

respectively.

The self-confidence of Youth Step's members obviously enhanced since they have performed in various

events over the year.
