Collaboration

Promoting Sustainable Forest Management with FRIMUTP signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with ForestResearch Institute Malaysia (FRIM) to collaborate in promotingsustainable forest management (SFM) and optimal use of forestresources through the application of knowledge and technology,generatedthroughscientificresearchanddevelopmentactivities.

ThesigningceremonywasformalisedbetweenUTPViceChancellor,DatukIr(Dr)AbdulRahimHj.HashimandFRIMDirectorGeneral,Dato’Dr Abd Latif Mohmod. Also present as witnesses were UTP ChiefFinancialOfficer, En.HasbullahHj Ihsan and FRIMSeniorResearchOfficer,ForestBiodiversityDivision,DrLillianChua.

Thesigningof thisMOUwasanother importantmilestone forUTP’sjourney towards becoming a recognised higher learning institution.The significant alliancewith FRIM auguredwell towards the holisticdevelopmentofbothpartiesandfurtherhelpedUTPtoremainrelevanttotheindustryandnationatlarge.

Abdul Rahim also expressed hope that this initiative will help toenhancetheUTPcampuscommunity’sappreciationoftheimportanceofconservingthreatenedspeciesanditshabitats,andthebenefitsofrehabilitatingdegradedsites.

Dato’ Dr Abd Latif Mohmod said this collaboration is in line withFRIM’smissiontodevelopappropriateknowledgeandtechnologyforconservation,management,developmentanduseofforestresources;

TIPS ON ALUMNI MANAGEMENT

1. Buildloyaltyandsenseofbelongingfromdayone.UTPAlumnirecruitsassociatemembersamongst first year undergraduate students so that the relationship between studentsand alumni can be developed and nurtured. All UTP studentswill becomeUTPAlumniassociatemembers and their statuswill be automatically transferred to fullmembershipupon graduation. As an associate member, UTP students are eligible to participate inactivitiesorganisedbythealumniforthem.Ultimately,anassociatememberwillbeabletoenjoygreataffiliationwithsuccessfulalumnimembersinvariousindustriesworldwide.

2. At the onset of the relationship, do not burden the alumni members with financialcontributionbecausetheyarejuststartingtheircareerandthushavedifferentprioritiesandcommitment.Instead,askforthealumni’stime,knowledge,expertiseandopportunitiestobringmeaningfulchangetothesocietyandcommunity.
