Go Between Bridge hits 3 million[April 28 2011] Lord Mayor Graham Quirk today announced

Brisbanes Go Between Bridge would carry its three millionth motorist just ten months after opening.

The Lord Mayor said the announcement came of the back of the number of vehicles using the bridge, which links Milton and South Brisbane, growing to a record 13,600 vehicles each weekday.

Cr Quirk said this meant the bridge continued to meet its daily traffi c targets. He said it had also already exceeded July daily targets of over 14, 000 vehicles a day on a number of occasions.

motorists could also try the Go Between Bridge for free, with FLOW tolling offering 10 free trips to those who sign up for a new

account before midnight April 30. Cr Quirk said the Go Between Bridge had combined with the

Clem7 tunnel to provide signifi cant relief to Brisbanes other major river crossings.

Before the Clem7 and Go Between Bridge opened, Brisbanes river crossings were choked at over 95 per cent capacity, Cr Quirk said.

There are now at least a combined 40,000 cars using these two river crossings every day instead of other bridges like the Story Bridge and Riverside Expressway.

Motorists using the William Jolly Bridge have particularly benefi ted from the opening of the Go Between Bridge, with a reduction of 4500 cars a day.

Daily traffi c targets for the Go Between Bridge are 13,600 vehicles a day. Opening targets were 12,000 vehicles a day.

The Lord Mayor said the Go Between Bridge and Clem7 tunnel were two projects in Councils TransApex series of tunnels and brides, along with the Legacy Way and Airport Link tunnels, which were both currently under construction.

The Go Between Bridge and other TransApex projects allow cars to link up to bypass the CBD and in turn reduce congestion on some of major roads, he said.

The Go Between Bridge directly links the Inner City Bypass at Milton with Merivale and Cordelia Streets at South Brisbane.

Brisbanes famous Paniyiri Festival set to celebrate 35 years
