RAMP-UP:SAP’S CUSTOMER-CENTRIC PROCESSFOR INTRODUCINGSAP SOLUTIONS TO THE MARKET

PUTTING SAP SOLUTIONS THROUGH THEIR PACES

SAP leads the way in providing innovative, high-quality software

solutions that meet the needs of today’s businesses, regardless of

complexity, industry, and region. This means much more than

just deploying the latest technology. It also means that customers

can rely on SAP to deliver solutions that are reliable and robust.

The Ramp-Up program is a new, standardized approach to

launching SAP solutions. Limited shipment to high-profile

customers means that solutions can be run and fine-tuned

under real-world conditions – paving the way for generalrelease. Ramp-Up ensures that solutions run as effectively at

customer sites as in SAP labs, and converts hands-on experience

into proven solutions.

DIRECT FEEDBACK FROM THE MARKET

The Ramp-Up program is an integral part of SAP’s solution

development life cycle. It provides SAP with direct feedback

from the market prior to general release – because only a

customer can put a solution to the acid test. Companies

participating in the Ramp-Up program are selected by industry

and region. They are asked to evaluate the completeness of

the solution, including documentation and training.

During this evaluation phase, metrics are tracked and reported,

such as the number of productive customers, how many trained

consultants are available to fulfill market demand for new solu-

tion implementation projects, and the status of service calls.

What follows is an iterative process that benefits the customer

and SAP, allowing the solution to be fine-tuned to the require-

ments of the target market. Ramp-Up also prepares field,

support, and development teams as well as SAP partners forthe general release.

SAP Solution Brief

Introducing new or enhanced

solutions to the market is a

process of outstanding

importance for all parties.

For the initial customers to

ensure their requirements

and expectations are perfect-

ly met. For SAP partners to

help them develop newcompetencies and competi-

tive advantages for their

future business. And for

SAP to close the feedback

loop and empower the whole

field organization to best

serve the market. That’s

what Ramp-up is all about.

 THE SEAL OF APPROVAL

The Ramp-Up program is an excellent way for SAP to demon-

strate the market readiness and outstanding quality of its solu-

tions. The successful launch of a solution through this program

assures potential customers that the SAP solution has been

proven in real-life environments – by companies like theirs, in

their industry, who want to streamline and improve their

business processes. And that’s not all. The Ramp-Up program

can generate valuable statistical data – such as implementation

duration, end user training costs, and return on investment –

that customers can use for their own budget planning.

EVERYONE’S A WINNER

Ramp-Up is a program that benefits everyone:

• Ramp-Up customers gain leading-edge technology

while saving on implementation costs.• All SAP customers receive market-proven, reliable,

and robust solutions.

• SAP can optimize its solutions based on valuable

real-world experience.

And there are long-term benefits, too. SAP receives a wealth of

market and customer feedback on which it can build the solu-

tions of the future.

WORKING TOGETHER TO BUILD A BETTER SOLUTION

Solutions in the Ramp-Up phase are ready for production envi-

ronments, because they have been tested and validated by SAP.

Ramp-Up enables SAP to refine the solution in collaboration

with its customers and identify additional market requirements

that cannot always be found in development environments.

The process also ensures that new solutions interact seamlessly

with other systems. Because the process involves the active

participation of customers, all improvements reflect the

requirements of the companies involved and, more importantly,

the people who use the software everyday.

Ramp-Up provides SAP experts with valuable insight into how

their solutions are used in practice, and prepares all teams

involved for general release. In addition, SAP can draw on the

experiences of the customers in the Ramp-Up program tocreate and enhance industry-specific Best Practices – pre-config-

ured solutions geared to the specific needs of a particular sector.

SAP Best Practices reduce implementation times and make it

easy to tailor functions to individual companies. SAP Services

can also be developed and refined on the basis of feedback from

Ramp-Up customers.

A HEAD START FOR RAMP-UP PARTICIPANTS

Companies who participate in the Ramp-Up program may gain

competitive advantage by implementing a new SAP solution

before it becomes available to the general market. The risk for

Ramp-Up customers is minimal, because SAP provides them

with dedicated, comprehensive support, training, and consult-

ing. Ramp-Up customers benefit from the expertise of regional

teams, ensuring that any issues are resolved quickly and effec-

tively. After all, it is in everyone’s best interest to ensure that the

solution is fully optimized for general release.
