Depuis sa création en 1951 à Bâle, le bureau d’architecture etde planification générale Burckhardt +Partner SA s’est structuréen société anonyme en 1981 et compte aujourd’hui quelquetrois cents collaborateurs. Il se compose d’une cinquantaine decadres dirigeants actionnaires et de partenaires, partenairesassociés et associés, dont l’autonomie constitue une grandeforce au sein de l’équipe.

Projets d’architecture, études prospectives de faisabilité,analyses du territoire, sont autant de services que Burckhardt+ Partner SA propose dans un environnement familial, sanshiérarchie préétablie. Son savoir-faire, reconnu à l’échellenationale et internationale, lui vaut des mandats auprès desplus grandes institutions. L’architecture et l’architectured’intérieur, indissociables à ses yeux, lui permettent deconcevoir et réaliser des ouvrages dans leur globalité. Since it was founded in Basel in 1951, architecture and general planningfirm Burckhardt+Partner has become a Société Anonyme (joint-stockcompany). Today, it employs some 300 staff which comprises fiftyexecutives/shareholders and partners whose independence is a majorasset within the team.

Ambassade de Suisse, Séoul, Corée du SudLe quartier résidentiel de Seodaemu-gu voit de nouvelles toursd’habitation s’ériger pour pallier une croissance démographiqueexponentielle. Le paysage urbain s’en trouve hautement modifié. B+Pa volontairement conçu ce bâtiment, enclavé dans ces tours, autourd’une cour centrale protégée, une manière de représenter la Suisse àson échelle et de s’implanter avec modestie dans son pays hôte.

Son programme comprend une résidence s’ouvrant sur un jardinprivatif, des espaces de représentation donnant sur la cour intérieure etla chancellerie côté rue avec une façade d’entrée nervurée, en référenceà l’architecture traditionnelle du pays. L’enveloppe extérieure del’ambassade est réalisée en béton armé nervuré de teinte sombre, alorsque la structure de tous les espaces qui s’ouvrent côté cour, est, quantà elle, constituée de bois clair et de verre. Un clin d’œil au contrasteimprimé sur notre drapeau national.

«BatLAB» site Cluse-Roseraie, HUG, GenèveLes différents laboratoires d’analyses des HUG se trouveront désormaissous un même toit, soit un bâtiment de treize mille mètres carrés surdix niveaux hors sol, qui s’adosse à celui existant, de manière à créerun ensemble harmonieux. Les exigences des maîtres de l’ouvrageportent sur la reprise exacte des niveaux pour permettre la connexionde chaque étage. Ainsi, de manière hiérarchique, le nouveau s’adapte àl’ancien.

Les services, la technique, les circulations verticales, les zones dédiéesaux réunions et la cafétéria sur chaque étage se situent aux extrémités,laissant la part belle à de généreuses ouvertures modulables au centre,dédiées aux laboratoires. Les différents niveaux sont cadrés par unegaine technique d’alimentation évitant tout croisement du plateaucentral. La façade en aluminium et verre propose un tressage et desmailles allant crescendo sur les pignons, conférant à l’ensemble opacitéet transparence, ombre et brillance.

Projets en cours

Swiss embassy, Seoul, South KoreaNew tower blocks, built in the residential district of Seodaemu-gu to house the fast-rising population, have transformed the urbanlandscape. B+P designed this building enclaved within the new towerblocks around a protected central courtyard. This architectural projectrepresents and symbolized Swiss discretion and modesty in its hostcountry.

The project comprises a residence overlooking a private garden,reception rooms that open on to the interior courtyard and theChancellery on the street side with its ribbed entrance façade inkeeping with the country’s traditional architecture. The embassy’s outershell is made of dark ribbed reinforced concrete, while the differentsections that open on to the inner courtyard feature light-colouredwood and glass. A hint at the contrast that appears printed on the Swissnational flag.

“BatLAB” Cluse-Roseraie site, HUG, GenèveThe HUG analysis and testing labs are now grouped together in a singlebuilding that spans 13,000 m2 on ten levels above the ground floor andwhich blends in smoothly with the existing structure. The projectmanagers were keen to faithfully reproduce the different levels of theprevious building so as to connect each floor, resulting in a harmoniousblend between the new building and the former structure.

The service and technical facilities, vertical passageways, meeting areasand cafeteria on each floor are located at the ends of the building,leaving ample space for scalable space dedicated to the labs in themiddle of the building. The different levels are circumvented by atechnical supply duct which prevents any overlap with the centralsection. The aluminium and glass facade features meshwork thatexpands on to the gables, conferring on the structure both an opaqueand translucent, shaded and bright appearance.

Its offices in French-speaking Switzerland are located in Lausanne andGeneva and complete the company’s presence in Switzerland. “In orderto satisfy our clients, we must be flexible and forge close ties with themsince architecture is strongly rooted in the local community and in itscultural life”, explains Philipp Bruhlmeier, member of the ExecutiveBoard and partner in the company.

Nicolas Vaucher, an associate partner, adds: “networking, working insynergy, the ability to share our experience and to interact with ourpartners via our Swiss hub have been our recipes for success”.The branch, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary at the beginningof October, is marking the occasion by publishing a book intended forits clients and staff. �

L’agence qui vient de célébrer ses dix ans d’existence débutoctobre, publie un livre pour l’occasion, destiné à sa clientèleet à ses collaborateurs. n

Centre de recherches et de développement Philipp MorrisProduct SA, NeuchâtelSur concours achevé en 2008, ce campus au bord du lac symbolise la prouedu site de Philip Morris, situé à l’entrée de la ville. Le magnifique paysagealentour se reflète dans les cinq façades de verre. Tout en transparence,l’intérieur dévoile trois barres perpendiculaires au lac. Celles-ci constituentdeux « rues » centrales ouvertes sur un bassin extérieur.

Les chercheurs évoluent ainsi dans des conditions de travail optimales,avec des espaces baignés de lumière, desservis par une série depasserelles transversales accueillant atrium, terrasses, espaces d’échangeset jardins suspendus. Le bois de courbaril, ou jatoba, court le long desvolumes intérieurs. Sa couleur chaude rehaussée par le verre et lavégétation confère une atmosphère très apaisante, propice à la recherche.

L’enveloppe du bâtiment compose à elle seule un environnementclimatique protégé. Elle gère la lumière, l’acoustique, parallèlement le gainde chaleur en hiver à travers l’énergie solaire passive, ainsi que l’apportde fraîcheur en période estivale, à l’aide notamment, d’une ventilationnaturelle.

Completed projectsR&D Centre, Philipp Morris Product SA, NeuchâtelThis lakeshore campus, completed in 2008, occupies a prime location atthe entrance to the town. The magnificent surrounding landscape isreflected in the five glass facades. The fully transparent interior comprisethree passageways that run perpendicular to the lake. These form central“streets” that open on to an outdoor pool.

The researchers enjoy an optimized work environment with brightly litspaces joined by a series of crossing walkways that contain the atrium,terraces, meeting areas and suspended gardens. Courbaril or jatobawood panels run along the interior sections. Their warm colours,enhanced by the glass panels and vegetation, provides a soothingatmosphere conducive to research work.

The outer shell of the building creates a protected climate-controlledenvironment that controls the light and the acoustics. It can also increasethe heat, generated by passive solar energy, in winter and cool the insidethe building in summer via a system of natural ventilation.

Nouveau Centre d’exploitation, Romande Energie, RollePour répondre aux exigences du maître de l’ouvrage, le bâtiment réunitsous un même toit son programme d’activités de travaux sur le terrainet de celui d’étude technique. Il se situe sur un site privilégié entrevignes et plaine arborisée, doté d’un magnifique panorama sur le lac etles Alpes savoyardes.

Le bâtiment orienté nord sud forme un « S » créant naturellement deuxcours, l’une, d’accueil, desservant les bureaux et les ateliers, la seconde,technique, privilégiant l’activité de terrain et, par conséquent, lesmanœuvres de ses véhicules de service.

Premier prix sur concours, le bâtiment labellisé Minergie-P est construitavec des matériaux appropriés et avec une façade revêtue de profils deverre coulé qui laisse la lumière naturelle pénétrer. L’enveloppethermique, imposée par ce label, se situe en alternance sur les plansextérieurs ou intérieurs des grandes ouvertures vitrées.

Depuis 2010, le personnel se déplace dans des espaces modulables,grâce notamment à la structure en poteau-dalle de l’aile administrativeet aux profondeurs variables des halles polyvalentes en forme de « U ».

New operations centre, Romande Energie, RolleTo meet the needs of the project manager, the building groups togetherlocal field studies and technical studies under the same roof. Thebuilding is located on an exceptional site located between vineyardsand a tree-planted plain which magnificent views over the lake andFrench Alps.

The building, which faces North-South, forms a “S” shape with twonatural axes: one that contains the reception area leading to the officesand workshops, and a second technical axis devoted to local activitiesand to the processing of service vehicles.

The prize-winning Minergie-P certified building has been built withcarefully selected materials and features a facade clad with poured glasssections which allow natural light to pass through. The thermal casingrequired under the Minergie-P certification criteria alternates betweenthe outside or inside sections of the large glazed windows.

Since 2010, the employees can move within scalable spaces thanksmainly to the layout of the slab column structure in the administrativewing and to the variable depths of the “U-shaped” multi-functionalhalls.

Nouvelle école de musiqueet salle de concert de l’HEMU, LausanneL’Ecole de jazz et la salle de concert de l’Ecole de musique se situent dans lenouveau bâtiment Flon-Pépinières, dans le prolongement de l’EJMA existante.Le quartier du Flon en pleine effervescence depuis de nombreuses années, dontla mixité architecturale joue entre passé industriel et modernité, accueille depuis2013 ce bâtiment à vocation culturelle.

Une salle de concert et d’enregistrement de trois cents places se situe au rez-de-chaussée. Elle est accessible aussi bien depuis la rue que depuis le bâtimentexistant de l’EJMA. Si l’on perçoit l’intérieur, des rideaux permettent d’obscurcirla salle durant les rencontres musicales. Le foyer constitue un balcon tournantaccessible depuis la rue des Côtes-de-Montbenon. De par sa forme, ce dernierpermet d’acquérir une acoustique optimale. Les salles d’enseignementoccupent le premier niveau. Celles-ci bénéficient de très larges ouvertures surle quartier, plaçant ainsi la musique au cœur de la cité.

New music schooland concert hall at the HEMU, LausanneThe jazz school and Music School concert hall are located in the new Flon-Pépinières building that extends beyond the existing EJMA school. Since 2013,this building, devoted to art and culture, occupies a site in the thriving Le Flondistrict that combines architecture that reflects the district’s industrial past, andcontemporary styles.

A concert hall recording rooms with 300 seats, located on the ground floor, areaccessible from the street and from the existing EJMA building. Inside, curtainscan be drawn to darken the hall during music concerts. The foyer is a rotatingbalcony that can be accessed from the Côtes de Montbenon street. The latteris designed to obtain optimal acoustical quality. The recording rooms are onthe first floor. The very large windows overlook the neighbourhood and placemusic at the heart of the urban environment.
