During the uncertain years of the Cold War, American lawyer James B Donovan (Tom Hanks) is called upon to defend Soviet spy Rudolf Abel from the death penalty. He ends up negotiating a trade for captured US pilot Francis Gary Powers – who was shot down during a reconnaissance sortie over enemy territory – and an economics graduate accused of being an American spy by the East German Stasi in Berlin. For a film brimming with lesser-known talent, it packs as much of a punch as a star- studded blockbuster. And while it might not be Spielberg’s finest hour, it showcases a truly captivating account of the savage post-World War II landscape which still remains a hot topic to this day. Another big-screen adaptation of the horror tale witnesses the monster-making through disturbed assistant Igor’s (Daniel Radcliffe) eyes, as he aids crackpot medical student Victor Frankenstein (James McAvoy) with controversial experiments, giving birth to creatures of nightmares. The partnership is solid and although there are a few good “shocks”, a serious dose of high voltage electricity would be required to bring this one back to life again. HHIII Charting the reign of enigmatic, straight-talking Brian Clough, this nostalgic documentary heralds the back-to-back European Cups of his Nottingham Forest. In a time when training was followed by midday boozing and chip butty lunches, seeing Clough’s charges take aim at the footballing world via grainy footage gives rise to the miracle maker of the title. Superb spectating for old-school fans of the beautiful game. HHHHI Fallout 4 Returning to a stunning wasteland with a Pip-Boy has never been more fun. Post-apocalyptic perfection. HHHHH Star Wars: Battlefront It’s impossible not to feel the force of this flawless first-person shooter. The best Star Wars game ever made. HHHHH CoD: Black Ops lll The revamps to its campaign mode push the series along, but it’s still the same-old enjoyable CoD experience. HHHHI Football Manager 2016 With all-new creativity features, you’ll go crazy customising players and clubs. And maybe managing, too. HHHHI Rise Of The Tomb Raider Traps, puzzles and relics aplenty: once you survive Lara’s latest adventure, you’ll be thirsty for more trial & terror. HHHHI Real Boxing 2 Creed Free, iOS & Android Jab, hook and uppercut as if Rocky himself was controlling your tap- happy fingers. Brilliant boxing sim.
